3) l'endroit où l'effort d'oscillation a'exeroe étant plus éloigné de l'axe d'oscillation B l'effort et l'usure sont diminués;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
comme représente à la, fig. 5.

"IMPROVEMENTS IN OSCILLATING CYLINDER ENGINES".
The present patent. has for object improvements to oscillating cylinder engines comprising one or more oscillating cylinders, which can be applied together or separately and consisting of a para. in the control of the oscillation of the cylinder no longer by the piston rod , but by the head of the connecting rod which acts as a slide consequently entrains in a reciprocating displacement in angular direction its guides or slide formed by the extension of the oscillating cylinder or by a suitable part attached to the latter, on the other hand in the use of a differential piston whose portion of smaller diameter is guided over a great length in an extension of the cylinder.
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the appended drawings represent, by way of explanation and not by way of limitation, embodiments of the improvements envisaged individually and in combination.

It is known that the engine 8 .. oscillating cylinder using as 2,. <Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The first improvement envisages see fig. and fig.5 consists in causing the oscillation by the head of the connecting rod, an exemplary embodiment is shown in fig.2. Note that the cylinder A or the cylinder base if the cylinder is in two parts ends towards the connecting rod head F by an extension M forming a slide comprising in its interior part cylindrical guide surfaces K or '. the big end F which carries bearing surfaces N for this purpose intended to come into contact with the surfaces K, with the aim of transmitting the oscillation to the cylinder A via the slide M.
This arrangement has the following advantages:
I) wear and leaks of the stuffing box caused by the oscillation force are eliminated.
3) the place where the oscillation force a'exeroe being farther from the axis of oscillation B the force and the wear are reduced;
3) the friction surfaces are much better conditioned in terms of size, accuracy and lubrication, resulting in very little wear.
4) the reactions due to the inertia of the guide on the assembly help to attenuate the vibrations; in fact, the crank or crank has a pontreweight located at a point diametrically opposed to the pivot-crank; this counterweight develops a constant centrifugal force, balancing the inertia of the piston at the end of stroke, while the inertia of the guide balances the centrifugal force of the counterweight at mid stroke.
5) the guide M protects the connecting rod body D, the stuffing box E and the head F during the device thus being much less vulnerable to shocks.
The second improvement is shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5 and is characterized by the fact that the piston 0 is differential, which is extended in one piece or by means of an attached piece up to the crank button. , the whole sliding in a guide R. This guide R can be formed by the slide M
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
as represented in, fig. 5. The cylindrical guide surfaces N of the connecting rod big end F having a diameter P preferably equal to the sharper diameter of the smaller diameter part of the differential piston O.
The advantages of this realization are as follows:
I) removal of the stuffing box, the braking of which on the piston rod only requires more or less forceful tightening without any evidence and is therefore almost always too intense or insufficient.
2) replacement of the cable gland with piston rings S, fig. 3,4,5, resulting in insignificant wear and automatic and almost constant sealing.
3) easy disassembly, because it suffices to remove the bottom U, in order to remove in the case of fig. 4 and 5 the piston 0 and its connecting rod, after having removed the whole of the crank pivot H and the axis B.
When the cylinder has a stuffing box, the piston must be removed from the rod each time - in order to be able to remove it.
4) The number of nieces is reduced to a minimum.
5) The organs are better protected,
The envisaged devices thus make it possible, as shown in FIG. 5 to produce a motor whose oscillation mechanism is perfectly protected being protected by the slide M, acting as a protective casing.
It goes without saying that the improvements envisaged apply to an engine with one or more oscillating cylinders.
Other details or constructive methods other than those shown by way of example in the attached drawings can be envisaged without departing from the scope of the field of this patent -couvant being characterized by the following:
