   Fig.2 est une vue en plan correspondante.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

    BICYCLE DEVELOPMENT.

   The present invention relates to bicycles and aims to make the use of the bicycle more pleasant by reducing the effort required at start-up and mainly in hills without having to use a gear change mechanism, always expensive and subject to inconvenience. .

   According to the invention, the crank axle is integral with an internally toothed ring with which a pinion engages, the axis of which rotates in a bearing provided in the horizontal fork of the rear wheel, door, symmetrically by relative to the crankset, a pinion connected in a known manner to the control pinion of the rear wheel.

   The cyclist thus has a relatively long lever arm, which multiplies the thrust especially when starting and when climbing.

   The drawing appended to this specification shows only by way of example and not by way of limitation one embodiment of the invention.

   Fig.I is a partial view of an improved bicycle according to the invention.

   Fig.2 is a corresponding plan view.

   On the axis I of the crankset is fixed a crown 2 provided with an internal toothing 3 with which is engaged a pinion 4, the axis 5 of which is carried in a bearing 6 integral with the horizontal fork 7 of the rear wheel 8 ,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

On the axis 5 is wedged symmetrically, that is to say on the opposite face of the bicycle with respect to the pinion 4, a second pinion 9, which is connected by a transmission chain 10 to the pinion II of the rear wheel.

   To prevent the access of dust and mud between the teeth of the crown 2 and the pinion 4, these components can be protected by a casing or box of suitable shape, which will also ensure effective and continuous lubrication. of the mechanism.

   By suitably choosing the diameter 'of the toothed ring 2, the cyclist ensures a lever arm of a length such that his efforts both flat and on a hill are advantageously multiplied; so that the cyclist can easily climb hills without having to use a derailleur or other equivalent device.Moreover, it is still possible to adjust the speed in a known manner, for example by using a crank bracket, whose offset axis allows to vary the distance between the axes I of the crankset and 5 of the pinion 4, which gives the possibility of replacing the pinion 4 by another of different development.On the other hand it is also possible to change the chain sprockets 9 and II, as in ordinary bicycles.

RESUME. ABSTRACT. Improvement to bicycles consisting in that on the axis of the crankset is wedged an internally toothed crown with which is engaged a pinion, the rotating axis of which in a bearing secured to the frame, at the rear of the crankset, door, symmetrically on the opposite face of the bicycle, a pinion connected in a known manner to the control pinion of the rear wheel, the respective dimensions of the front toothed wheel and of its pinion determining a lever arm advantageously multiplying the effort of the cyclist.
