MOTEUR ROTATIF..
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
La présente invention prévoit la possibilité d'intercaler entre les cylindres 11 et 11' et les orifices 14, des chambres destinées à recevoir le mélange gazeux comprimé dans les dits cylindres, et équipées des dispositifs d'allumage et des son- papes appropriées, chambres d'où le mélange gazeux enflammé on les gaz braies soue pression sont dirigés dans le rotor;

ROTARY MOTOR.
The present invention relates to a rotary engine the rotor of which receives driving pulses of a gaseous fluid admitted under pressure into said rotor, this engine operating either as an internal combustion engine, or as a diesel or semi-internal engine. Diesel.
The object of the invention is an engine of this kind offering the advantage of reduced bulk and of a particularly simple and robust construction.
In this stop according to the present invention, the motor essentially comprises an annular-shaped rotor rotating on a stator forming a circular hollow drum, inside which are placed reciprocating piston compressors which cause the compression of the fluid oa. of a combustible gas mixture and the ignition and distribution devices, thanks to which the expansion of the fluid oa the combustible gas mixture
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
on is in the rotor.
To this end, according to the invention, the rotor is made up of a plurality of cells passing successively during the rotation of the rotor in front of the exhaust port of each compressor cylinder, so as to each receive a load of metal. - pressurized gaseous mixture and possibly still ignited, communicating a driving impediment to the aforesaid rotor.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, said compressors are placed in opposition inside the. stator, at opposite ends of one or more diameters of the drum and the pistons of each pair of opposing cylinders are rigidly connected together so that the compression in one cylinder coincides with the suction in the opposite cylinder.
In order to allow the passage of the gas mixture from the stator into the cells of the rotor, according to the invention, the exhaust port of each compressor cylinder communicates with an orifice provided in the cylindrical wall of the drum and the rotor. has a continuous slot in its inner cylindrical surface in contact with the stator, so that the cell chain in turn communicates with each compression cylinder.
In order to cause the reciprocating movement of the aforesaid pistons, all of the latter are actuated by the rotor by means of an appropriate movement transformation device, actuated, for example, by the motor shaft.
Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will emerge from the description of the appended drawing which shows schematically and by way of nonlimiting example an embodiment of a rotary internal combustion engine in accordance with the invention. and equipped with two compression cylinders.
In this drawing: Fig. 1 is a cross section with partial breaks of the aforesaid engine.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of part of the rotor taken along line I-I of Fig. 1.
The motor consists essentially of a rotor 1 of annular shape rigidly connected by arms 2 to a shaft 3 rotated in bearings 4, and of a stator 5 in the form of a hollow drum through which the shaft passes. motear shaft 3 and fixed from one part to one of the bearings 4 and the other part, supported by the shaft 3.
The stator 5 is composed of an envelope shared by the olions 6 in a succession of cells 7 and comprises on its inner face 8 in contact with the cylindrical wall 9 of the drum 5, an uninterrupted annalary slot 10, serious to which all cells 7 are onverted on the side of stator 5.
Inside of. drum 5, are placed at opposite ends of the same diameter of the latter, two cylinders 11 and 11 'whose opposite ends are open. Each cylinder has an exhaust opening 12 connected by a very short duct 13 to an orifice 14 made in the cylindrical wall 9 of the stator 5 in the plane passing through the slot 10 of the rotor 1, so that the cells 7 of the latter passing successively in front of the orifice 14 during the rotation of the rotor, are placed in communication all one after the other, with the exhaust of each compressor.
In the twin cylinders 11 and II * slides a rigid assembly formed by two pistons 15 and 15 'renis by a rod 16 so that the movements of said pistons are synchronized and that when a piston moves towards the periphery of the drum 5 and causes compression, the other piston merges towards the axis of the drum by sucking the motor fluid into its respective cylinder.
In order to allow the movement of the rod 16 notwithstanding the presence of the shaft 3, according to the invention, this rod comprises in its middle part a buttonhole 17 through which the said shaft passes.
The reciprocating movement of pistons 15 and 15 'is obtained
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
by a shaft movement reference 3.
For this purpose, in the embodiment of the invention shown in the drawing, the shaft 3 carries inside the drum 5 a toothed pinion 18 in pride with a toothed pinion 19 rotating idly on a pivot 20 fixed to the drum 5. , the latter pinion carrying a button 21 to which is articulated one end of a connecting rod 22, the opposite end of which is connected by a suitable connection to the common rod 16 of the pistons.
It follows from the above, that during the rotation of the shaft 3, the pistons 15 and 15 ', which, perform reciprocating rectilinear movements in their respective cylinders, can be used either to suck and then to compress = gas mixture admitted into the aforesaid cylinders (when it is an internal combustion engine), or to suck and compress air into which will be injected at the appropriate moment, a pressurized fuel (when the rotary engine works as a Diesel engine).
The admission of working fluid into the cylinders is effected in one way or the other in the known manner and these cylinders are equipped with automatic valves arranged at the appropriate places, preferably inside the drum. and arranged so as to allow the admission or aspiration of the driving fluid at the required moment, the ignition of the gas = compressed mixture and its passage from the compression and ignition cylinder into the expansion chambers 7 located in the rotor 1.
The exhaust of the burnt gases takes place when the cells 7 pass in front of an orifice 23 made in the side wall of the tamboar and connected by a pipe, not shown, to the open air.
It goes without saying that the number of piston strokes per revolution of the shaft 3 depends on the ratio of the diameters of the toothed gears 18 and 19 in engagement.
So. with two cylinders and a ratio of 2: 1 there will be
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
one ignition and one explosion per revolution of shaft 3, with three cylinders there will be 3 explosions per two revolutions of the rotor.
It follows from the above that the rotary engine according to the invention operates as follows:
The engine having been started in such a manner as, for example, by rotating the rotor 1 so as to cause the reciprocating movement of the pistons 15 and 15 ', until one of the latter, for example, the piston 15 compresses enough for the explosion to take place in the cylinder of this piston.
At the moment of the explosion, the valve controlling the passage of the gas = ignited mixture through the duct 13 towards the rotor 1 opens, and the ignited gas mixture enters the cell 7 located in front of the orifice 14, likewise qae in all the other cells 7 of the rotor which pass in front of this orifice 14 during the entire period of time during which the gas mixture has a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure.
The gas = ignited mixture admitted into the rotor expands there by exerting pressure on the pallets 6 of the rotor, so as to make the latter turn.
As a result of the rotation of the rotor, the cells 7, filled with burnt gas arrive, after a fraction of a rotation of the shaft, in front of the opening 23 serving for the exhaust of the burnt gases.
It goes without saying that an injection of the scavenging air can be provided in the aonnae manner, for example, through an additional opening, not shown, made next to the orifice 23.
According to a particular feature of the invention, the partitions 6 separating the cells 7 from the rotor 1 are inclined relative to the axial planes of the latter, so that the effect of. each of the gas mixture jet entering under pressure into the cells 7 and striking the said partitions is added to the driving impulse
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
due to the expansion of. gas mixture in the cells 7 of the rotor.
In a variant of the invention, the explosion and combustion take place. in cylinders 11 and Ilt and seals the burnt gases are injected into the rotor.
It is understood that the engine according to the invention can
EMI6.1
have several compressors; so as to increase the number of explosions or ignitions per turn.
On the other hand, the number of driving pulses per revolution of rotation can be increased by accelerating the alternating movement of the pistons of the compressors by changing the speed ratio of the motion transforming device specified above.
The present invention provides for the possibility of interposing between the cylinders 11 and 11 'and the orifices 14, chambers intended to receive the gaseous mixture compressed in said cylinders, and equipped with ignition devices and appropriate valves, chambers. from where the ignited gas mixture or the gases under pressure are directed into the rotor;
It goes without saying that the present invention is by no means limited to the embodiment described and shown, since the latter can be modified according to the requirements of practice or of construction without thereby departing from. field of the invention,
