<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM FOR BENZINE ENGINES.
In recent times attempts have been made to increase the efficiency of gasoline engines by attempting to run them on petroleum and other heavy oils, for it was believed impossible to obtain a greater economy of the gasoline. consumption of benzine, without experiencing any kind of inconvenience.
The object of the invention is, however, to make the operation of a gasoline engine using gasoline more economical than was heretofore possible, while retaining the power and the good properties.
For this purpose, according to the invention, in a benzine engine, a device for heating the benzine is interposed in the supply pipe to the chamber of the float of the carburetor, moreover the supply pipe for the fuel. gasoline to the float chamber and the main jet passage port are reduced to such an extent, with respect to the supply line and the passage port, which correspond in the gasoline engine using under normal conditions. operation of the remainder identical to benzine not previously

heated, that a fuel economy of about 10% or more is achieved.
In accordance with the invention, benzine preheated to about 35 or a higher temperature which may be up to about 55, can be passed through a through port, which is narrowed by 10 percent or more of the same. to the orifice, which is used in the gasoline engine employing under otherwise identical operating conditions unheated gasoline.
Preferably in accordance with the invention the orifice of the working nozzle passage is narrowed by at least 20%, preferably 25 to 30%, relative to the orifice of the working nozzle which is used in the benzine engine employing under otherwise identical operating conditions unheated gasoline.
By nozzle passage orifice is understood to mean the passage orifice of a nozzle, or, in the case where there are two or more of them, the total passage orifice, which is supplied by a heater by through one or more float chambers.
In accordance with the invention, the orifice of the pipe connecting the gasoline heater and the chamber of the carburetor float is advantageously narrowed by at least 25%, preferably by approximately 60-90%, or one provides for resistance to passage of equal value.
The orifice for the passage of the aforesaid connecting pipe is in accordance with the invention preferably of the order of magnitude of the orifice of the passage of the main jet.
Limiting the supply of heated benzine to the float chamber of the carburettor can also be obtained by totally or partially forming a resistance to the passage through the benzine heater. This can be achieved by providing the latter with perforated transverse partitions.
According to the invention, the gasoline heater
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
may consist of a through-tank, provided with an inner tube, which is heated by the engine exhaust gases, with a gasoline inlet pipe at one end and a junction pipe at the other end, while in the tank and / or in the connecting pipe with the float chamber is provided a flow resistance. Between the heated inner tube and the outer wall one or more perforated transverse partitions forming flow resistors can be placed.
Heating can also be done electrically instead of using combustion gases.
The savings achieved by the invention vary between 10% in the case of new automobile engines and approximately 40 to 45% in the case of old engines. In the case of engines equivalent to new engines, a savings of 15 to 20%.
Automobiles are delivered fitted with a specific nozzle, the passage opening of which appears empirically to be the best. This "normal" passage orifice is narrowed according to the invention by about 10% or more, advantageously even up to more. by 15%, while simultaneously shrinking the gasoline supply pipe to the float chamber, thanks to which the engine has the same efficiency as in the case of unheated gasoline, normal jet and non-shrunk (normal ) feed to the caxbu- rator.
The invention will be made perfectly intelligible with the aid of the appended drawing which represents an embodiment by way of example.
The figure is a diagram in which a heater is shown in the lower part on a reduced scale, and in the upper part on another larger scale a jet carburetor of an automobile engine.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
At I is indicated a tank or sheet metal passage receptacle, to which is connected at 2 the supply line for benzine coming from an automatic electric pump, and at 3 the outgoing line to the carburettor float chamber. - tor. At 4, a pipe is provided which initially allows the tank to be filled and the air to escape; optionally, a safety valve can be fitted.
In the longitudinal direction, the reservoir I is crossed by a pipe µ, which provides passage to part of the engine exhaust gases. Cross pipes 6 ensure faster heating of the fuel. The fuel temperature can thus be brought to approximately 55 to 60 C.
Perforated partitions 7 are disposed between the wall of the tank and that of the pipe 5. These are not only intended to produce a more regular heating of the benzine, but above all an advantageous braking effect on the current of the gasoline. combustible, so that it does not enter the float chamber under unacceptable pressure. Instead of the walls 7, another device can be used to resist the flow, for example a spiral, which will be arranged in the pipe connecting the heating device and the carburetor, or else the section of this pipe. The tank is provided with a shell II, which is filled with heat insulating material.
The temperature of the gasoline can be adjusted by means of a regulating valve 9 inserted in the pipe 8. By adjusting this valve, it is possible to determine the quantity of exhaust gas passing through the apparatus. The pipe 8 is of on the one hand connected by means of the valve 9 to the normal exhaust piping and constitutes a bypass, while on the other hand it is connected to the pipe 5 by means of flanges with insulating packing, for example made of asbestos. In this way the direct radiation of heat through the piping is reduced, consequently the adjustment made by the valve 9 is pre-
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
weighting.
To the left of the device is connected to pipe 5 a pipe element 10, which forms the exhaust for the exhaust pipe derived from the normal pipe. The temperature of the fuel can be monitored by placing an insulated thermometer on the exhaust from the tank to the pipe which connects it to the float chamber of the carburetor.
In the carburetor shown, the supply of fuel to the nozzle is regulated in the float chamber in the usual way, by means of a usual float with needle. From the float chamber or at constant level, the fuel arrives at nozzle 13 for normal operation or thinner nozzle 14 for idling. At 16 is indicated the usual carburetor mixture nozzle, which is provided of the control valve 17.
In this example, the nozzle 13 is provided with a special part 15, thanks to which the normal exhaust (the normal jet) can be reduced by up to about a third, for example.
If you have another type of carburetor, such as a recent Stromberg type E-22 carburetor, in which normally two measuring nozzles? 052 are arranged, then these are replaced according to the invention by two measuring pieces N 046 or even less. In this case, the passage is reduced by about 20% or more. can even exceed 20%, as demonstrated by practical tests.The temperature of the gasoline is about 52 ° C. The permissible restriction of the passage of the nozzle depends on the type of nozzle and must in the construction shown be reduced even up to less than a third of the normal passage.
As fuel we can use the usual benzine for cars, which is delivered by pumps along the roads.
The invention is applicable to both new and old benzine engines. While in new engines a saving of about 20% is already achieved, in old engines it is possible to go as far as a large saving.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
40%. A large automobile truck with a payload of 12000 Kg and own weight of 5000 Kg, used at full load, thanks to the application of the invention, with heated gasoline and a jet, conforms to the drawing and of which the normal average of 4mm for cold benzine is narrowed to about 1.75mm, and with a resistance inserted in the piping of the hot benzine, + 40% less gasoline and that without the engine him - even has undergone the slightest modification.
The resistance in the piping connecting the benzine heater and the float chamber may consist of a constriction, which is calculated such that the passage opening of this piping is in the vicinity of the order of magnitude of the orifice of passage of the nozzle, which is supplied by the aforesaid orifice, While until now, we made sure to make the supply as ample as possible, in the application of the The invention a 25% shrinkage is common and there are shrinkages of 60 to 90% (therefore up to 1/10 of the normal passage opening).
Instead of limiting the supply only by narrowing the piping connecting the heater and the float chamber, a propeller or other equivalent device can be placed in the piping and / or the internal resistance of the heater can be increased. application of a self-adjusting flow rate pump is desirable and in some cases necessary. Instead or in combination therewith, means may be provided for balancing excess feed.
