<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig, 1 est une vue en plan;
Fig. 2 est une vue correspondante partielle avec les pièces dans une position de réglage différente;
Fig. 3 est une vue en élévation partielle;
Fig.4 montre un détail.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Improvements to gramophones and similar sound reproduction devices.
The present invention relates to improvements to gramophones and similar sound reproducing devices utilizing disc-shaped sound recordings.
According to the present invention, a control is provided by which the variation of the speed of progression of the end of the acoustic bra.s with respect to the center of the disc, from a determined normal speed, is intended to stop the continuation of the sound. movement of the needle of the acoustic arm on the recording disc.
The control can therefore be actuated by excessive movement of the acoustic arm, i.e. a speed of movement around its vertical pivot greater than its normal speed of progression between consecutive turns of the en-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
recording, as happens in the case of playing records having a spiral or eccentric exit groove in their center, or the control may act to stop further relative movement between the record and the needle. when the normal progression of the acoustic arm radially to the disc has ceased for a determined number of revolutions of the disc.
The control can act to stop the motor of the rotary table, raise the needle of the disc, move the acoustic arm from the edge of the disc and perform a play again, change or reverse of the disc as desired.
In the device according to the present invention, the position of a movable contact of an electrical switch is controlled by the movement of the acoustic arm and by the disk, while an element periodically moved by the rotation of the turntable, controls the completion of an electrical circuit by means of this contact each time the displacement of this mobile contact varies by deviating from a determined speed,
The invention is described particularly with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig, 1 is a plan view;
Fig. 2 is a partial corresponding view with the parts in a different adjustment position;
Fig. 3 is a partial elevational view;
Fig.4 shows a detail.
In one embodiment, the shaft 1 of a turntable motor is connected by gear wheels to drive disc 2, this gear connection being in the ratio of 3 to 1 or in any desired ratio to give movement. slow rotation of the control disc. The control disc 2 has at its lower side a cam stopper 3 which moves the pivoting part 4 around its pivot 5 for each determined number of revolutions of the turntable.
This pivoting arm 4 in turn carries, by means of a pivot, an arched friction shoe 6 intended
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
rotate around its pivot 7 of the arm 4 under the action of a corresponding arcuate friction member 9. mounted rigidly on a console 9 of the acoustic arm 10, such that when the acoustic arm 10 rotates around its pivot 11, it rotates by friction the shoe 6 pivoting on the arm 4, This shoe 6 carries by means of an arm 12 a contact 13 of a switch containing a contact 14.
It can therefore be seen that when the acoustic arm 10 rotates around its pivot 11 and is moved radially across the gramophone disc, the friction control between the element 8 of the acoustic arm and the sa; bot 6 rotates the latter around the pivot 7 on the arm 4 to bring the contact 13 gradually towards the contact 14., which tends to complete the. relay circuit or the like 15 controlling the turntable motor or other gramophone control mechanism.
The closing of these two contacts is however periodically prevented by the action of the stop 3 on the disc 2 coming into engagement with the arm 4 to put the shoe 6 out of reach of the friction element 8 of the arm 10, the second stop 16 then immediately rotating the shoe 6 to its initial angular position on its pivot 7 of the arm 4, in which the arm 12 abuts against a stop 26 before the re-engagement by friction of the shoe 6 and the element control by friction 8 of the arm 10, after which the shoe 6 and the element 8 come back into engagement and a gradual movement of the contact 13 towards the contact 14 begins again,
If, however, the acoustic arm moves on its pivot 11 with sufficient speed to move the movable contact 13 until it engages with the contact 14 (as a result of the friction control by means of the arched members 6.8), before the cam or control disc 2 may have turned sufficiently
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
to bring its first stop 3 into engagement with the arm 4, to rotate the latter around its pivot and.
bring the friction member / 6 riors of engagement with the friction member 8 of the acoustic arm 10 (and thus cause the return to position of the contacts' is to say the bringing of the movable contact 13 back into its position far away from the contact 14, as shown in Fig. 1, after which it is gradually moved again forwards towards the contact 14 - by a new forward movement of the acoustic arm), it is then seen that the command is carried out . By these means we can be sure that the control relay or the like 15, actuated by the closing of these contacts 13, 14 is not actuated except at times when. the acoustic arm 10 receives a large angular movement compared to a limited determined number of revolutions of the turntable.
This happens every time the needle runs through the usual high eccentricity crimping groove in a disc, when there is one. However, some types of discs are not provided with a groove :? output, the needle circulating in a substantially concentric groove at the end of the game of a disc.
:in. in order to obtain an automatic stop of the rotary table of the gramophone under these conditions, a second isolated contact 17 is provided, intended to cooperate with the contact arm 12 at point 18, and these contacts 14 17 are mounted on the arm 19 d 'an angled lever, the other arm 20 of the latter carrying a roller 21 which cooperates with a cam 22 of the wheel 2. A spring 23 maintains the roller 21 in contact with the cam 22,
The arm 4 is attracted by the spring 25 to bring the shoe 6 into frictional engagement, as necessary, with the element 8, when the arm 4 is obviously released from the stopper 3.
It can therefore be seen that if the continuation of the radial progression of the acoustic arm relative to the disc is stopped, for example by the fact that the needle arrives at. the end of a
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
play groove in the disc which is concentric or substantially concentric with the center 1 of the turntable, the rotation of the cam 22 possibly brought (at most during three turns of the turntable in the arrangement shown) the caster 21 on the portion 24 of the cam 22 which allows the contacts 17, 18 to be closed and the gramophone turntable motor to be stopped thereby.
At other times, the cam 22 swings the arm 20 to move the contact 17 away from the contact 18 just before the lifting of the shoe 6 of the element 8 and the return to position of the arm 12 with the contact 13 against the stop. 26 which takes place near the end or at the end of a complete operating cycle of disc 2.
It is obvious that if the finger 12 is not moved away from the stop 26 during the time that the roller 21 is attracted by the spring 23 in the notched part 24 of the cam, the circuit is completed at the contacts 17, 18.
If the groove of the disc is somewhat eccentric, putting shoe 6 back in position on element 8 could tend to move arm 12 clockwise around its pivot, but this would not result. no damage since the shoe 6 will then slide slightly on the surface of the element 8.
Whenever it is desired to re-start the motor of the gramophone turntable, this can be done by rotating the hand lever 25 to the position shown in Fig. 1 which brings the contact 26 to the contact 27 in the motor circuit. Actuation of relay 15 by. closing the contacts 13, 14 or 17, 18 rotates this hand lever 25 counterclockwise to bring the contact 26 onto the insulated part 28.
To allow the acoustic arm to move freely to engage the disc without releasing the frictional contact between parts 6 and 8, it is desirable to pre-
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
see on the arm 4 an extension 29 carrying a cam surface 30 engaging a chamfered surface of a projection 31 provided on a lever 32 controlling the movement of a collar 33 on an axis 34 supporting the acoustic arm 10 , capable of rotating around its horizontal support axis 35, such that when the lever 32 rotates around its pivot,
it maintains the arm 4 moved with the shoe 6 out of engagement with the element 8 until the needle 36 on the acoustic arm actually comes into contact with the record or approximately.
A main switch may be provided on the acoustic arm 10 to prevent the automatic operation of the control 6-8 until the acoustic arm has moved a determined radial distance, i.e. until the Needle 36 has passed over the ungrooved edge of the disc and has been moved by the disc an adjustable number of turns from the start of the sound groove.
Summary.
In summary, the invention relates to:
1, An automatic device for stopping a spinning table motor of a gramophone, on completion of the playing of a record, characterized in that the variation in the rate of progress of the end of the acoustic arm relative to the center of the disc, from a determined normal speed of circulation, actuates contacts in an electrical circuit controlling the rotary table motor of the gramophone.
