<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

"CT COYBIE BASCÜLAN2 MOVEMENT FOR devices 1IÇ.Q! ÏAQ! -9.QMB.! Rr - Qq¯! ÊQT -JQmL4E! R! CONNECTORS AND DISCONNECTORS"
The connector and disconnector devices which must achieve a breaking capacity are generally equipped with two contacts for each break, so that the closing of the circuit on the one hand and the opening of the circuit on the other hand, are done in two. time. The contacts generally designated as "breaking contacts" make the first contact and the final breaking of the current while the other so-called "main contacts" close after and do not open before the breaking contacts.
This arrangement was adopted to avoid abnormal heating in permanent service in the event of damage to the contacts by arcs.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This goal can also be achieved by using a single contact per break provided that the latter, during a maneuver, rolls or slides on the fixed contact so that the first contact, or! if the current is cut off, is carried out on a part of the contact other than that ensuring the electrical connection in permanent service, that is to say, when the device is in the engaged position o
Both solutions can give satisfactory results, however, the first has the drawback of leading to fairly complicated constructions and moreover reducing the proportion between the effective breaking distance and the total stroke of the movable contact.
The second solution hardly makes it possible to rule out much of the breaking points of the parts ensuring permanent contact and — especially when it comes to devices called upon to operate very frequently — the damage may extend to the latter.
The combined contact forming the subject of the present invention is characterized in that its shape is chosen such that the parts acting as breaking contact are clearly separated from the parts ensuring the permanent connection, the passage from one to the other, when operation of the device not by sliding or rolling, but by a rocking movement.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, some embodiments of the invention.
Figo i is a side view of a connector - disconnector provided with a combined contact, being in the closed position.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the same device at the start of the cut.
Figure 3 is a side view of the same device at the time of separation of the parts acting as main contacta.,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
FIG. 4 is a combined contact made by assembly with a replaceable rupture contact.
Figo 5 is the realization by means of combined contacts of a device with double pole breaking.
Fi go 6 is a front view of the same assembly.
Fig. 7 is a side view of a disconnector connector provided with a combined contact for high currents, the apparatus being in the closed position.
Figo 8 represents the relative position of the fixed and movable contacts of the same device when the parts serving as main contacts are separated.
Figo 9 shows the relative position of the contacts of the same device at the start of the cut.
Fig. 10 is the same contact made by assembly and comprising a replaceable rupture contact.
According to fig. I, the combined contact is formed by a profiled part (1), connected by a flexible connection (2) to a fixed terminal (not shown in the drawing), comprising two bosses (3) and (4), the first of which serves break contact, the second main contact. The part (1) can rotate around an axis (5) integral with a U-shaped lever (6), for example, which can itself rotate around a fixed axis (7) isolated by an insulating sleeve ( 9). The angular movement of the part (1) around its axis (5) is limited on the one hand by a finger (8) and on the other hand by a rivet (10) abutting on both sides on the part (11) of the lever (6).
Under the action of a spring (12), one end of which is housed in a notch (13) of the part (1) and the other of which is held by a fixed insulating pin (14), the boss (4) of the part (1) abuts at point (16) against a fixed contact (15) while the boss (3) remains away from the latter. The system formed by the lever (6), the part (1) and the axis (5) is in equilibrium because the rivet (10) of the part (I) abuts against the part (11) of the lever ( 6).
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
If we turn the insulating cam (17), integral with a shaft (T8), clockwise, the ramp (19) abuts against a roller (20) which can rotate around a axis (21) fixed in the lever (6) and this cam (17) gives this lever (6) a rotary movement.
The part (1) biased by the spring (12) then rotates around its axis (5) counterclockwise and the boss (3) abuts against the fixed contact (15) at the point (22) so that the two bosses (3) and (4) are simultaneously in contact with the part (15). This position is represented by FIG. 3.
If we continue to turn the cam (17), the boss (4) moves away from the fixed contact (15) and, when the finger (8) comes into contact with the part (11) of the lever (6) , the part (1) is again immobilized in relation to this lever (6) (see figo 2). From this moment the latter drives the part (1) and causes the cut which takes place on the boss (3).
The advantages of this arrangement compared to those mentioned above are obvious: a very small angular travel of the part (1) allowing the parts serving as main contacts (boss (4), point (16) of the fixed contact ( 15) of the parts forming breaking contacts (boss (3), point (22) of the fixed contact (15)), since the choice of the distance between the bosses (3) and (4) is free. In the closed position (fig. 1) the spacing of the boss (3) from the point (22) of the fixed contact (15) is such that even in the event of breaking beads or burns, permanent contact is ensured by the boss (4) .
According to figo r. 2 and 3. the part (1) was produced by drawing; it goes without saying that combined contacts with similar operation can also be produced by any other suitable method, for example bending,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
or else by an assembly such as that shown by way of example in FIG. 4. The boss (3) acting as a breaking contact is replaced by an insert (23) which can easily be replaced if worn.
It is obvious that a similar operation can be obtained by using a flat or curved movable contact and by arranging the bosses (3) and (4) on the fixed contact or else by providing a boss on each of the fixed and movable contacts.
Figs. 5 and 6 show an exemplary embodiment of the moving contacts of a device with double pole breakage: two combined contacts (24) connected by a flexible connection (25) are housed on a shaft (26) fixed in a support (27 ). Under the action of a spring (28), the contacts (24) abut against the folded-down parts (29) of the support (27) in the triggered position When engaging, the movable contacts (24) come first touch the fixed contacts (30) by the bosses (31), then by the bosses (31) and (32) simultaneously and in the final position by the bosses (32) only, the bosses (31) being spaced from the fixed contacts ( 30) o
Figs 7 8 and 9 represent combined contacts whose operation is similar to that described above.
However, these contacts differ from those shown in FIGS. (I to 6) by the shape of the contact parts ensuring the electrical connection in permanent service.
According to fig. 7, representing the contacts in the engaged position of the connector-disconnector, the boss (33) of the movable contact (34) is housed in a notch (35) of suitable shape of the fixed contact (36) ô The sides of the notch (35) touch the boss (33) theoretically on two lines (37) and (38) whose length can be
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
chosen according to the intensity of the current either by varying the width of the parts (34) and (36) or by arranging daux or more contacts (34) and (36) next to each other.
According to the example of execution represented by FIGS. 7 - 8 and 9, the movable contact or contacts (34) are housed with a certain clearance on axes (39) integral with the support (40) which can rotate about a fixed axis (41).
When the latter is turned counterclockwise, the contact (34), still applied against the sides of the notch (35) by the spring (42), turns around the center of curvature ( 43) of the boss (33) until the boss (44) comes into contact with the part (45) of the fixed contact (36) (see fig. 8); by continuing the movement, the boss (33) of the fixed contact (36) is then removed until the heel of the movable contact (34) or - as represented by fi go 9 - the fixing screws (46) of the flexible connection (47) abut against the support (40), - when the cut occurs on the boss (44).
By the rotary movement of the contact (34) around the center of curvature (43) there is a lapping between the sides of the notch (35) and the boss (33) which contributes to reducing the voltage drop between fixed contacts and . mobile and eliminates the possibility of oxidation of the quasi-linear contact surfaces.
According to fig, 10 these contacts can also be made by assembly. The parts (48) and (49) serving as breaking contacts are attached to the main contacts (50) and (SI). Besides the advantage of easy replacement, this arrangement makes it possible to use a number of breaking contacts smaller than that of the main contacts and consequently to reduce the width of the blast chimney and the dimensions of the blast coil.
The observation made above is also valid for the contacts which have just been described, that is to say
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
that the bosses (33) and (34) can be placed on the fixed contact and use a movable contact comprising a notch (35) or even provide on one of the contacts the boss forming the breaking contact and the notch while that the other is equipped with the boss forming the main contact.
CLAIMS - Combined contact for a connector and disconnector device, characterized in that during engagement, the movable contact abuts against the fixed contact by a first protruding part serving as a breaking contact, then by a rocking movement comes to touch it by a second protruding part, serving as main contact until then separated from the fixed contact; after having touched the fixed contact momentarily and simultaneously in two places separated from each other, the movable contact continues its movement, the second projecting part rolling or sliding on the fixed contact while the first moves away from it; these movements occur in the opposite direction during triggering.
2 - Combined contact according to I, characterized in that the bosses serving as breaking contacts and main contacts are integral with the fixed contact or that one of them is integral with the fixed contact the other of the movable contact.
3 - Combined contact according to I, and 2, characterized in that it can be produced by assembly.
