<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
Ainsi, en ayant recours 1 deux vis ou autres éléments de fixation pour maintenir une des chapes en contact d'agrip¯ page avec son élément d'échafaudage, la pression est appliquée sur cette chape en deux points écartés longitudinalement de l'élément d'échafaudage et la pression d'assemblage, exercée sur cette dernière est augmentée et rendue plus grande que celle exercée sur l'autre élément d'échafaudage sans nécessi. ter 1'intervention d'organes additionnels, la pression étant appliquée en;
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Improvements made to assembly devices, in particular to those for connecting scaffolding elements.
The invention relates to assembly devices for transversely connecting a pair of tubes, posts or other elements of a scaffolding or the like, devices of the type of those comprising a central block to be engaged between the two elements to be coupled and a pair of yokes established on either side of said block while being articulated to the latter while being suitable for being applied to the outer parts of the two elements.
For assembly devices of this kind, consisting of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
as hitherto, the central block generally comprises parts forming a seat and which are suitable to partially embrace the two elements of the scaffolding and% to maintain them transversely while the clamping yokes generally have a curved shape to embrace the two elements. outer faces of the elements by being articulated to an edge of the central block, the free outer edge of the yoke being stressed centrally by a fixing screw or bolt cooperating with calla-ci. Two fixing screws or bolts are thus used, a screw or bolt intervening to maintain each of the yokes in tight contact with the corresponding scaffolding element.
One of the objects of the present invention is to achieve a simpler construction whereby a single screw or a single bolt can be used to keep the two scaffolds in contact with the respective scaffolding elements and for this purpose and in accordance with the specification. 'invention the two yokes are suitable for being clamped against their respective scaffolding elements by common clamping means suitable for connecting the two yokes and transmitting the pressure of a yoke \. the other will handle that by tightening a yoke in contact with its scaffolding element, the other yoke is automatically applied against its corresponding scaffolding element.
By using the assembly device in the manner indicated above, when an increasing load is applied to one scaffolding element and which tends to move this element in a longitudinal direction with respect to the other element , the force is transmitted to the yoke which is clamped against the latter element so that the retention of this element is automatically increased and the relative displacement between the two elements is avoided.
Another defect in existing assembly devices of the kind indicated above is that the clamping pressures applied to the two scaffold elements.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
ge are equal while under certain conditions, for example when the device is used to link a summer. horizontally to an upright, the force which tends) :, moving the assembly device will in reality be much greater in one direction (that is to say longitudinally with respect to the upright) than in a direction parallel to that -this.
Another object of the invention is to provide a dispo. An improved assembly device which, without the number of its constituent elements being increased, can resist when greater pressure is exerted on one of the elements. link that on the other element. An assembly device, constituted as specified below, can thus and] attached 13. a post in a much more certain manner than has been possible hitherto and without the tightening pressure, applied to the horizontal element, is affected.
For this purpose and according to another particularity of the invention, one of the yokes is provided with other fixing means suitable for connecting it to the central block, so that the cha can be brought into contact with its scaffolding element. to hold the assembly device in place thereon as well as the common fixing means on which acts to bring the other yoke into contact with its scaffolding element, so that additional clamping pressure can be applied to the first yoke and its scaffolding element and that the clamping pressure applied to the latter element can be made greater than that bent the other scaffolding element.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an assembly device established according to one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows, in perspective, this seating device.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
so that the process for connecting two scaffolding elements between them.
Fig. 3 shows, similarly to FIG. 1, the assembly device in an inverted position.
For the arrangement shown in the drawing, the assembly device included a central block 10 suitable for being engaged between the scaffolding elements to be assembled together, this block having the shape of a cross comprising two seats at the opposite edges. 11, 12, formed by parts of a cylinder and placed perpendicular to each other while being suitable for receiving the scaffolding elements referred to above.
When the joining device is used to connect a spar, sling or other horizontal element to a post of the scaffold, the axes of the elements being at right angles to each other, these seats 11 and 12 are respectively in contact with adjacent faces of the upright 13 and of the horizontal element 14, as shown in FIG. 2.
The outer faces of the coupled elements 13 and 14 are suitable for being embraced respectively by the clamping yokes 15 and 16, the latter having the shape of a cylinder part and articulated to one edge of the central block 10.
Preferably, the edge of each yoke is formed by a tubular part, like 17, the central part of which is removed so that a projection 18 provided on the rear of the corresponding seat 11 or 12 can be accommodated therein, a pivot 1g passing through the tubular edge 17 of the yoke and serving to articulate the latter to the projection 18 as a hinge. The axes of the pivots 19 are, of course, parallel to those of the coupled elements when they occupy their final position.
On the opposite edge that where the pivot 19 was located, each clamping yoke 15, 16 has a side lug 20 or 21 which is located at one end of the yoke, screws
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
fixing 8 and 9 passing respectively in the ears 20, 21 and being directed towards the other yoke.
Advantageously, the screw 8 is suitable for entering a threaded hole made in a projection 22 provided on the central block 10 on one side of the seat 12. The clamping screw 9, carried by the yoke 16, however, extends to beyond the block 10, parallel to the other screw but on the opposite side of the seat 12 and is engaged in an ear 23 formed not on the block 10 but on the yoke 13.
This ear is established. one end of the yoke 15, spaced from the ear 20 referred to above and, preferably, it comprises a tubular projection 24, threaded so that the two fixing screws 8 and 9 can have the same length,
In order that the fixing screws can be retained inseparably by the ears 20 and 2 each of the latter may have a hole 25 of sufficient diameter to allow the threaded portion 26 of the screw to pass through it. -this,
a washer of the same internal diameter being engaged on the threads and then compressed diametrically to come into contact with a part of smaller diameter of the shank of the screw, as can be seen in FIG. 2 Said washer 27 is housed in a notch 28 made in the internal face of each ear.
To assemble the elements of a scaffolding using such an improved device, the clamping screws 8 and 9 are first released from the ears 20 and 21a and the yoke 15 is moved angularly outwards to allow the seat 11 of the central block 10 to be placed against a post in the desired position and it is then brought back to the rear to press on the outer face of the post, the screw 8 then being engaged in the projection 22 block 10 and fully tightened to maintain the yoke in position.
To facilitate the engagement of a horizontal element,
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
positive is preferably fixed to the post in the position shown in fig. 1, the pivot 19 being at the lower edge of the yoke 16. In order to prevent the latter tilting too much downwards, it may include a stop 29 forming part of this yoke, which comes into contact with the yoke. The end of the projection 18 of the block 10 to maintain the yoke in a substantially horizontal position so that it can act as a support for the spar or other element when the latter is in place.
The yoke 16 is then lifted to bring the stringer into contact with the seat 12 and the clamping screw 9 which it carries is engaged in the projection 24 = provided on the other yoke 15 and is fully tightened. This not only keeps the side member in place but also exerts an additional clamping pressure on the upright.
The single grip, obtained by the clamping yoke 16, is amply sufficient to prevent the longarnn from moving along its axis while the double gripping on the upright, which is obtained by the connection of the yokes. 15 and 16, provided suitable security to prevent movement through the bottom of the clamping device under the weight of the worker, the platform and the construction materials which the scaffolding must be able to support.
Thus, by having recourse to two screws or other fasteners to keep one of the yokes in contact with the gripper page with its scaffolding element, pressure is applied to this yoke at two points spaced apart longitudinally from the scaffolding element. scaffolding and the assembly pressure exerted on the latter is increased and made greater than that exerted on the other element of scaffolding without need. terminate the intervention of additional organs, the pressure being applied in;
a point on the other yoke. so that a pressure or a triple grip is exerted on the set of the two yokes and transmitted by them to the elements of scaffolding.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
dage which are coupled by the assembly device.
In addition, by exerting an increasing load on the horizontal element 14, which tends to move the latter longitudinally with respect to the upright 13 and downwards, a part of this load is transmitted to the yoke 16 which l 'forces it to pivot outwards in the gap of the central block so that additional pressure is transmitted by the screw 9 to the yoke 15 in contact with the upright, forcing the latter to tighten the upright more strongly with the As a result, any downward movement of the assembly device relative to the upright 13 and which results from an increasing load applied to the element 14, is avoided.
Instead of the fixing screws being carried by the clamping yokes, as shown, the yokes can be applied against the elements of the scaffolding p bolts, the head of one of these bolts being in contact has the central block 10 while the head of the other bolt is in contact with the yoke. 15. For example, the heads of the bolts can be articulated between ears provided respectively on the block and the yoke, while the axis of the articulation in each case is parallel to that of the yoke on which the nut. of the bolt is supported and the rods of the bolts may be able to penetrate into notches or between pairs of ears provided at the free edges of the screeds.
