<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Un tel courant- étalon peut facilement être tenu constant avec une précision beaucoup supérieure à celle possible en cas d'une tension en employant certains typée d'impédances bien connus en soi. Un tel type d'impédance est une résistance à haut coefficient de température positif, à titre d'exemple, une résistance à fil de fer dans une atmosphère protectrice;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY filed in support of a PATENT OF INVENTION application "Device for adjusting ionic values by means of grids".
It is well known to use, for the adjustment of the voltage, of the current or of another electrical quantity of an ionic valve, a direct current which actuates, by means of a winding, either an inductor forming part of a a combination of impedances, ie a component of the field of a synchronous machine, always with the aim of oauser a phase shift of a voltage of the gates.
It is also well known to obtain this direct current by creating the difference between a standard voltage and a voltage proportional to the quantity to be regulated.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
and by causing the sire current to be sent to the appropriate winding by this voltage difference. However, it is often difficult to create a standard voltage which is adjustable at will and which, once adjusted, remains constant with sufficient precision . Therefore, according to the present invention, at the link of a standard voltage, a standard current which crosses such a path that the difference between itself and a current proportional to the quantity to be regulated crosses the winding which controls the grid tension.
Such a standard current can easily be held constant with a much greater precision than that possible in the event of a voltage by employing certain types of impedances well known per se. One such type of impedance is a resistor with a high positive temperature coefficient, for example, a wire resistor in a protective atmosphere;
another type usable for an alternating current which can then be rectified consists of two inductors connected by transformers in parallel and in opposite directions, one of these inductors containing iron which is magnetized at about the inflection point of the curve d 'magnetization (of alternating current), the other inductance being constant and dimensioned so that its rectilinear characteristic is parallel to the tangent in said point of inflection. Optionally, the last inductor can be replaced by a capacitor directly connected in parallel to the first inductor, but this arrangement becomes more sensitive to variations in frequency.
Three forms / of the invention are shown schematically in Figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawing.
In Figure 1, the voltage of the rectifier 1 is regulated by means of the grids 2 of its ionic valve. The feed to these grids is supposed to be of the so-called "floating" type, in which the grids of the active anodes form the base of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
voltage of the other gates, while the necessary variations are produced by introducing differential voltages between the different gates and the adjustment is made simply by a phase shift of these differential voltages.
Each of these differential voltages is obtained by means of a group of impedances 3 of a well known type which oonsists in a constant resistance and a variable inductance by the superposition of an adjustable direct current, the active voltage being taken between the junction point of these elements and the midpoint of the current source which supplies them.
In this way, a voltage is obtained, the phase of which can be varied by approximately 180, while its numerical value is constant. The voltage is taken, in the form shown, carried out by transformation by means of two windings mounted on the current source and two windings mounted on the inductor, by means of which one obtains, from each combination of impedances, two voltages opposite to each other which can be used for opposite anodes of a six-phase group or two three-phase groups connected by an interphase transformer (suction or suction coil).
The direct current windings 30 of all combinations of impedances 3 are supplied by the following device: A phase of the voltage on the alternating current side is connected, to. through a wire resistor 4¯, to the primary winding of a transformer 5 whose secondary winding is connected to a polygon of dry rectifiers 6 (Graetz connection). Between the direct current terminals of the polygon, a capacitor 7 has been connected to absorb the variations of the direct current, and also a current path which is divided, in a point 8, into two branches, one containing the current windings continuous 30 of impedance groups 3 and the other containing a resistor 9 in series with two
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
rectifier direct current voltage terminals.
The branches of the current path meet again at a point 10, between which and the Graetz polygon is an inductor 11.
The wire resistor 4 must, in the form shown, be dimensioned so that the current supplied by the Graetz polygon always exceeds the current flowing through the resistanae 9 under the voltage of the rectifier. The difference in currents, which is therefore reduced when the direct current voltage of the rectifier is increased, passes through the direct current windings 30 of the inductors belonging to the impedance groups 3, the value of which is increased when the current is reduced. This increase in turn causes a delay in the voltage introduced between the gates and a lowering of the proportion between the direct voltage and the alternating voltage of the main rectifier, so that the increase in voltage is compensated.
An adjustment of the voltage value that the device seeks to maintain can be easily done by adjusting the resistance! . The link connecting the other terminal of this resistor to a terminal of the rectifier itself, it can be connected to any point of the circuit supplied by the rectifier, so as to create an oompoundage. one can also obtain such an oompoundage by mounting on the transformer 5 an additional winding 50 supplied by the main current, for example by means of a current transformer 12.
To prevent the current flowing through the Graets polygon from dropping to zero if the wire resistor 4 melts, which would seriously disturb the setting, the resistor current also flows through the coil of a relay 13 which drops when the current s 'interrupts and switches on a reserve resistor 40. The latter was previously connected in circuit
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
in series with a relay 14, so that a current surge is avoided. The relay 14 loses its current when the relay 13 drops and then gives a signal indicating that the molten resistor must be replaced.
The primary winding of transformer 5, can be short-circuited through one of the contacts 15, 16 which are closed when the rectifier goes out for one reason or another. For example, they can be mounted on the ignition device and on the main circuit breaker. In this way, a current surge is avoided when the rectifier is switched on again, since the standard current rises quite slowly from zero value, due to inductance 11.
In FIG. 2, which represents an assembly for adjusting the value of the main current, a gate 2 only of the ionic valve has been represented. A current proportional to the load current of the rectifier is taken from the alternating current side by means of current transformers 41. This current flows through a group of dry rectifiers 42 at connection points 10, where it is compared with a standard current. created in essentially the same way as in Figure 1, i.e. by means of a voltage transformer 51 working through a wire resistor 52, an adjustable intermediate transformer 53 and a Graetz polygon 54.
A capacitor 56 is connected between the direct current terminals of the polygon and an inductor 57 and connected between said capacitor and one of the connection points 10. The difference between the standard current and the current of the rectifier group 42 passes through a winding 55 acting on a group of impedances 60 of the same kind as in figure 1, although represented only in a single-phase and simpler way than in figure 1. Figure 1 to simplify the diagram. In a polyphase arrangement, the DC windings of the different phases can be connected in series or in parallel.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
A particular advantage of the assembly which has just been described is the following: when the main current is rapidly lowered, an additional current passes at the first instant of the points 10 through the rectifier group 42 which presents an ohmic facing resistance, while winding 55, which is more inductive, absorbs current more slowly. The adjustment, to restore a higher value of the current, is therefore done with a certain delay. When, on the contrary, the main current increases, the current in the winding 55 is immediately reduced, because the path of the standard current includes the inductor 57 which prevents even a temporary increase of this current. The downward adjustment will therefore take place quickly, which is important for limiting the consequences of excessive current.
FIG. 3 represents an assembly for keeping the electric power constant. A current taken from a current transformer, on the / AC side of the rectifier, passes through a potentiometric resistor 17. A voltage proportional to the main current is therefore established between the terminals of the resistor and this voltage is applied to an inductor 71 saturated by a direct current which passes through a winding 72 and which is proportional to the direct current voltage. rectifier.
If the wire inductor has the appropriate proportions, it admits, under these conditions, a current which is proportional to the product of the current and the voltage of the rectifier and this current is rectified by a Graetz 73 polygon and compared, in points 10. with a standard current obtained in the same way as according to fig. 2. The difference between the two currents crosses the winding 55 of an impedance group 60 of the type already described. Optionally, the poly-
73 gone Graetz can be replaced by a three-phase group of rectifiers and, in this case, its components supplied from the side of

alternating current are repeated for each phase.
