<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 1 est une vue en plan de l'ensemble du dispositif selon une forme d'exécution;
Fig. 2 en est une vue de face;
Fig. 3 une vue de côté montrant en même temps la première phase du glissement des bossoirs le long des poutres de guidage;
Les Figs. 28, 29 et 30 montrent une forme d'exécution de l'invention dans laquelle on a prévu des organes additionnels capables d'effectuer l'éloignement de l'embarca- tion du flanc du navire ; cette forme d'exécution la planche d'embarquement et le gard-corps se dégagent des poutres de guidage des bossoirs dès que ces poutres ont atteint une position perpendiculaire au pont;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
A cet
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>
<Desc/Clms Page number 17>
<Desc/Clms Page number 18>
<Desc/Clms Page number 19>

"AUTOMATIC BOSSES FOR RESCUE BOATS."
The object of the present invention is a new type of automatic davits for quick, easy and safe launching of lifeboats even when the vessel is strongly tilted on the opposite side.
The device essentially comprises a / couple of davits which first slide on support guides placed in an inclined plane and which then overturn, with these beams or guides, so as to carry the craft out of the ship, while a landing board which provides an easy and quick passage for people to embark, is automatically placed on the edge of the boat; after that the boat is brought to sea and automatically disengages itself from the suspension hoists as soon as it can float.
According to the invention, all these operations take place automatically by the sole force of gravity, that is to say of the weight of the boat, just by spinning the guarantors.

Figures 31 to 37 show in different views the details of the above-mentioned embodiment.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Figures 38, 39, 40 show an embodiment in which the davits have a double arm to serve two boats, also operated by a single person.
Figures 41, 42,43 show the winch for operating davits for two boats.
In all of these figures the same reference numerals are used to indicate corresponding parts of the device.
In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 to 24, the device comprises a pair of davits 1 each formed by two sheets of iron or steel and suitably shaped to support the side and the keel of the boat 2, the two sheets being connected to the outside and at the bottom by a peripheral band and by bolts 3 which keep them suitably spaced to accommodate the guarantor return pulleys.
At the lower end of the davit, an arm 4 is provided which is reinforced by the struts 5 placed in the lateral and vertical directions. On these arms 4 is fixed a longitudinal bar 6 connecting the two davits so as to make them rigid and to prevent small oscillations due to the pitching of the ship when the lashings of the boat are released.
The bar 6 is preferably hollow, and has a triangular section with the blunt protruding edge in the middle (Fig. 28) so that if the boat presses against its bar when the vessel is tilted to the opposite side it can easily slide as well. good when it is brought than when it is hoisted.
The rear base of each davit carries fixed, perpendicularly to its vertical plane, two pivots 7 having threaded axial bore holes, these pivots serving as rotation shafts for the wheels 8, the external faca of which comprises
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
a circular hollow where the head of the stop screw of the wheel screwed into the threaded bore of the corresponding bolt 7 is housed.
The contact between the davit and the side of the boat in the normal position takes place with the interposition of a wooden pad 9 fixed in the notch of the davit which has a projection 10 where the keel of the boat presses when this- this is back. This projection 10 is also intended to serve as a support for the boat when the latter is brought under an inclination of the ship on the opposite side and properly in the phase where the davits slide on the guide beams 11 because in this phase, precisely because from this unfavorable inclination, the hoists would have a tendency to unroll.
On the contrary, this unwinding is prevented by the boat pressing on said projection, and this is why the sliding of the davits takes place even when the vessel is tilted to the opposite side while at a certain point in the folding movement. davits the guards are newly tensioned and the movable pulleys of the hoists are tight against the heads of the davits.
The guarantor 12, formed by a steel cable, is fixed to the pulley 13 carrying the ring which is used to hook the hook 14 for the suspension of the boat, this guarantor then passing successively through the pulleys 15, 13, 16, thus constituting a hoist and then again on the return pulleys: (placed in the aft base of the davit), 18 (in the head of the guide beam), 19,20 (in the support of the said beam), 21 ( fixed to the bridge) to then wind up on the winch 22.
The davits have at their top part two eyelet plugs, 23 and 29. To the eyelet 23 is fixed the steel cable 24 which constitutes the lashing to encircle the boat to the davit and this davit to the support 27. A this
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Indeed, the lashing comprises at its free end a ring 25 in which the bump 26 is passed one or more times which has its frame on the support 27 and is anchored to a suitable cleat 28.
The other eyelet peg 29 is used to hook a small steel cable 30 to it to help connect the davits, and to support the cover of the boat and tie the ends of the rescue cables to it.
The davit which has just been described slides, by virtue of its weight, in the sliding beam 11 by means of its rear carriage formed by the wheels 8 already mentioned and by the roller 31 rotating around the pivot 32 which is fixed. at the base 33 and serves as the axis of rotation of the beam.
To obtain this sliding, the beam is inclined 300 towards the outside of the ship and is made as follows:
Two iron guides having a U-section are kept suitably spaced and interconnected at the front by an internal transverse plate 34 which interrupts the vacuum to cause the stopping of the davit carriage when the latter completes its descent, and to the rear by a transverse plate) external 35 fixed below the guides so as to leave free the void of which above through which is introduced, to perform the assembly of the assembly, the davit carriage consisting of the two. pairs of wheels 8. Once this introduction has been carried out, the part 36 is introduced in the form of a box which will be fixed by means of four screws screwed into the opposite edges of the guides, so as to strengthen the union of the guides.
This box-shaped part carries the guarantor return pulley 18.
The guide beam is pivoted to the base 33 which is fixed to the margin of the boat deck 37, and rests at the rear on the support 27 at a suitable height, namely such as to keep the inclined beam of 30 as well as 'it was said above. On the pivot which connects the davit to the base, rotates a roller 31 on which the davit rests.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The support 27 is formed by two U-shaped iron sheets.
In the free space between the sheets, two pulleys are provided, the upper 19 of which receives the guarantor 12 coming from the pulley 18 of the beam and the other 20 placed at the bottom, serves to return the guarantor to the pulley 21 fixed on the bridge, from where the guarantor will roll up to the winch 22.
The upper end of the support comprises a fork 38 which blocks the beam against movements due to the pitching of the ship; two rigid spacers 39 fixed to the bridge serve to reinforce the support to resist the tensile force of the guarantor 12. This support 27 carries the cleat 28 where the bump 26 is moored as has been said.
At half the distance between the two beams 11, and still at the margin of the bridge, the boarding board 40 is articulated.
This board is controlled by a special sheet metal frame 41 formed so as to remain, in the rest state, in an inclined position of 30, like the sliding beams by which it is in turn controlled, during the folding, by means of two small steel cables 42.
When the folding out has been completed, the frame 41 remains vertical and limits the movement of the board by means of two lateral stop arms 43 rotating around the same pivot of the frame and each guided by slides 44,45, the slides 44 being placed on the fixed base of the support and the slides 45 on the lower part of said frame.
For a certain part of the movement of the frame 41, the slides 45 move without driving the arms 43.
When the ends of the arms 43 abut against the bottom of the respectively associated slide, these arms are driven in motion and are stopped only when they come up against the upper part of the slides 44.
Between said frame 41 and the beams, steel ropes 46 are stretched which constitute a guardrail.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The board comprises tirevieilles 47 formed by bars articulated together in the form of a parallelogram to follow the movements of the craft in the roll of the ship to the position where the tie rods in two articulated pieces 48 are stretched, these tie rods also being articulated to the upper end of the frame and to the candlesticks of the planks.
A small retaining cable 49 in hemp, passing through a hole in the frame, is used to bring the boarding board to the boat and has a knot 50 of such size that it cannot pass through the hole, in order to leave a some slack when the cable 49 is stretched for the normal trim so that the board folded down by the beams has an initial tilt of about 30, and can then be brought onto the boat by its own weight. The cleat 51, fixed to one side of the frame, is used to moor said cable 49 there. In the event that the board does not overturn spontaneously because of the unfavorable inclination of the vessel, it must be pushed by hand by both. sailors of the boat who are the first to embark.
Each of the suspension hooks 14 of the boat is constituted by the hook itself 52 provided with an eccentric posterior mass and mounted on a pivot fixed in a suitable frame 53 in which the hook hides after rotation around its pivot when the The detachment has taken place, thus avoiding possible snagging with the pulley engagement ring 13.
This frame comprises below the pivot of rotation of the hook a hole for the introduction of the longer arm of a bifurcated blocking member 54, the shorter arm of which is introduced into the space between the ring of the pulley and the end of the hook; in this way the hook is prevented from unhooking, while to arrange it for hooking up only the long arm is left in place and to make it work automatically by
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
gravity is completely extracted the blocking member 54 which remains secured to the chain 55 fixed to the cross member 56 of the boat.
The lower part of the frame 53 is formed to fit into a hole in the cross member 56 attached to the edges of the boat. A chain end 57 connects this frame with the cabin of the boat where, on a sheet metal reinforcement 58 is provided a suitable device blocking or releasing this chain at will. This device consists of an ankle 59 introduced into the last ring of the chain and able to rotate about a pivot carried by a stirrup integral with the reinforcement 58. The free end of the ankle 59 can be engaged by a circular segment integral with 'a large pivot 60 rotating in a suitable bearing secured to the reinforcement 58.
The rotation of this large pivot 60 is effected by means of a lever 61 operated by hand and stopped by a small ankle. Finally, a chain 62 connects the head of the hook to the cross member 56.
The hook just described can operate automatically and on command. In the first case, the operation takes place thanks to the weight of the eccentric mass which, as soon as the hoist is loose, forces the hook to turn and to be released from the ring of the yoke of the pulley 13; Command operation must be caused when automatic operation fails for some reason, admittedly very rare, and one could even say almost impossible to happen. The operation to order takes place as follows:
After removing the stop pin from lever 61, this lever is rotated by hand.
The rotation of the lever causes the rotation of the circular segment integral with the large pivot 60 and consequently the release of the pin 59 which, under the traction of the chain 57 of the hook 52 which has remained attached to the pulley 13 of the hoist, overturns leaving
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
dropping the chain and thereby also letting the hook out of its seat. When the chain 62 is stretched, it forces the hook to turn and free itself from the pulley, falling on the boat, which thus remains free to go to sea, since the other hook will have come loose automatically or, if necessary, will have been released by hand, as described.
If we wanted one. hook operating only on command, the hook shown in Figs. 19 and 20.
The hook 63 has a lower part which is introduced into the hole in the cross member 56. At its end the hook ¯ has a rotating metal mesh 64 which allows the mobile pulley of the hoist to be hooked and prevents it from coming loose.
To hang the pulley, the above-mentioned mesh must be lifted by hand. The rest of the device is quite identical to that of the automatic hook.
With this type of hook, to release the boat from the hoists, it is necessary to act on the devices which attach the chains of the hooks to the boat. The hooks are recovered on board and to hoist the boat again, two auxiliary hooks must be fitted which must be part of the boat's equipment.
With this type of hook we can obtain the simultaneous release of the two hooks of the boat. For this purpose the two large pivots 60 are interconnected by a rigid bar 65 controlled in the center by a lever 66. The stop pins 59 of the chains of the hooks will be blocked by the circular segments of the pivots 60 with the intermediary of transverse levers 67 in order to leave the central part of the boat free for its mast or for its engine.
When the lever 66 is reversed, the circular segments rotate and release the transverse levers 67, the latter in turn releasing the chain retaining pins from the fangs, which, no longer being retained, will leave with the pulleys of the hoists and the boat will be free to drop.
The movable pulley 13 of the hoist has a small
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
cross bar 68 which will abut against the lower edge of the davit head at the end of the lifting operation of the boat. From this moment begins the overturning of the davit towards the interior of the vessel.
The winch 22 for operating the guarantors comprises two drums of the same diameter parallel to each other and having a helical groove for winding said guarantors.
The winch is equipped with a hand brake to adjust the speed of rotation of the drums for unwinding the guards when the boat is brought in, and an electric motor to hoist it. The winch is fitted as usual with a device for hoisting the boat by hand.
The davits described above are maneuvered by a single seaman who performs the following operations:
To bring the boat: a) it removes the bumps 26 which surround the lashings 24. b) It releases the winch brake: the davits then slide on the guide beams thanks to the inclination of the latter; when the davits come to the end of their travel, they fold down together with the beams until their lower end abuts against the side of the ship or against a suitable frame which could be arranged on the side of the ship. At the same time, the boarding board was folded down, which will be brought to press on the boat by spinning the cable 49, which can be done by the two sailors of the boat.
Once the davit folding movement is completed, the operator brakes the winch, after which the passengers can be boarded.
After boarding, the operator resumes tracking the guarantors until the boat is unhooked from the hoists. If the boat is fitted with the automatic hooks shown in Figures 17 and 18, before the boat touches the water, the two boatmen of the boat must
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
remove the locking members 54 from the hooks 52 to allow the automatic release which takes place as soon as the boat floats.
If the automatic release does not take place, the said sailors must operate the levers 61 to release the hooks from the boat.
If the boat has hooks connected to each other, the sailor in charge of this service must operate the lever 66 (Fig. 58) as soon as the boat floats, to release the transverse levers 67 (Figs. 19, 20, 22) .
To hoist the boat: a) The boat is hooked up to the hoists; b) The operator sets the electric winch in motion.
The boat then rises until the bars 68 of the movable pulleys of the hoists abut against the davits; the latter fold down until the beams rest on the supports 27. The boarding board folds down at the same time after which the davits from which the boat is suspended rise on the guide beams. At the end of this movement, the operator stops the winch. c) We pass and strap the lashings 24 and as soon as these are in place the operator will slowly unscrew the winch to give the guarantors a little slack, he will then brake the winch definitively.
In the event of damage to the electric motor, the boat must be hoisted manually.
The device which has just been described inevitably encumbers the boat deck. In large transatlantic vessels used for the transport of passengers, it is possible to obtain the complete clearance of the deck by raising the davits which, in this case, instead of pivoting on the edge of the deck, will pivot on the uprights 69 of suitable height (Figs. 25). to 27).
In this case if there is a teugue 70 it will be used to support the beams on suitable brackets 71, the
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
winch 22 being mounted on another central console. Since the lashings must be maneuvered from the teugue, before reaching the cleats 28 fixed to the support brackets of the beams, they pass under the hooks 72 of the davits so that the lashings follow a suitable course to exert a downward pull. .
By adopting this system of raised davits, the mobile frame controlling the boarding board must be pivoted on suitable uprights 73. To reach the board, passengers will have to climb a few steps of a ladder 74 permanently fixed on the deck, this ladder having at its bottom part two fixed candlesticks 75 for the support of the tirevieilles 76 constituted by articulated arms connected to the tirevieilles 47 of the board.
The raised support 41 comprises two lateral guide buttons 77 sliding in the suitable circular notches of the uprights 73 where they find their stop to adjust the inclination of the support in accordance with the inclination of the two beams in the two extreme positions of the assembly.
With the system of raised davits the guardrail 46, which in this case is formed by rigid bars, remains fixed to the margin of the deck and is limited in height by the uprights of the beams and the support, and has intermediate supports 78 reinforcement.
This type of folding davits according to the invention allows the adoption of a device by means of which, always automatically, by the force of gravity, after the passengers have boarded the boat, the latter before descend to sea is away from the side of the vessel (Figs. 28 to 37). In this device, each beam 11 serving to slide the associated davit is pivoted at the upper end of a spar 79, the two spars being connected by plates and being in turn articulated at the edge of the lower deck 80.
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
By spinning the guards to bring the boat, the pieces 4 of the lower ends of the davits will come up against, at the end of the folding movement, against the spars which, still under the weight of the boat, fold out and move away the craft from the ship. The folding movement of the assembly around the pivots of the side members is limited to the position in which the articulated arms 81, suitably connecting the side members to the deck 37 of the boats, are stretched.
At the place where the parts 4 of the davits abut against the side members, the latter have a recess 82 serving to prevent undue movements of the davits. These davits are also blocked in this recess against their untimely movement of folding inward, by a hook 83 operated by a parallelogram articulated transmission placed on one side of the side members.
The control member of the parallelogram transmission is the arm 84 of the lever forming the upper side of the parallelogram. This arm abuts, when the side members are in the normal position, against a console 85 fixed below the boat deck. When the side members begin their outward folding movement, the arm 84 moves away from the console 85 and allows the hook 83 to descend to block the davit, the weight of the entire parallelogram which causes the hook to descend, possibly being augmented, if necessary, by a lead bar fixed to the long side 86 of this parallelogram.
The upper coupling plate of the side members, for each side member has a hook 87 serving to lock the side member to the bridge. To this end, a metal plate 88 affecting its front part in the shape of a fork is fixed to the bridge. In this fork the spar 'fits exactly and is thus blocked against the movements due to the pitching of the ship. The plate 88 comprises, in the direction of the hook 87, a shackle 89 which, when
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
takes the position drawn in dotted lines in Fig. 33, hooks hook 87 when arm 84 touches console 85.
The hooks 87 retract more when the davits go up on the beams. In this second position, after having attached the bosses to the lashings of the boat, the ring is reversed inside (position shown in solid lines Fig. 33) and the hook 87 is blocked by means of the pin 90 which in turn is blocked by the circular segment controlled by the lever 91.
With this type of automatic davit, the board and its associated parts must remain on board while the davits pivoted on the spars move away from the side of the vessel, the device of which below being provided for this purpose +
The control cable of the mobile support of the board and of the cables forming the guardrail are extended between said support and the special stanchions 92 each provided with two longitudinal and lateral struts respectively, the latter comprising a stop button 93 running in a circular notch made in the fixed base of the candlestick and serving to stop the candlestick in its two extreme positions, vertical and inclined 30 like the beams.
The sliding beam of each davit is provided with a projection 94 engaged in the fork 95 of a rod mounted on the stanchion so as to be able to slide along the stanchion; the fork tends to descend by gravity and can be lifted by means of a shovel lever 96 pivoted on the transverse strut of the candlestick. The stem of the fork 95 ends at the bottom with a foot 97 which in the folding movement of the candlestick runs over a circular fin 98 fixed to the base of the candlestick. The shape of the fin is such that the fork 95 engages the projection 94 during the folding movement of the beams until the candlestick assumes the position perpendicular to the bridge. At this moment the foot 97 of the rod falls along the anterior part of the fin.
The fork 95 leaves free the
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
projection 94 so that the beams remain free for the second folding out on the side members as soon as the stop pin 90 is removed, while the stanchions remain blocked on board with all the device of the board.
Foot 97 blocks the candlestick against the inside drawdowns.
The davits described above comprise, between the two fixed pulleys 15 and 16, a third pulley intended to keep the lines of the hoist cable separate when the davits have undergone the two folds out around the pivots of the beams and its side members. respectively.
Davits can be operated by one person and their operation is as follows:
To bring the boat to the sea: a) The lashings 24 are released. B) The winch brake is released: davits, with the boat, then slide on the beams and, when they have reached the end of their travel fold down until they come into contact with the recesses 82 of the side members; at the same time the stanchions 92 with the support of the boarding board also fold back, after which the board is brought to the boat by means of the small hemp cable 49. The sliding beams automatically release from the stanchions as described more high.
At this moment, the winch is braked for boarding the passengers and in the meantime the operator will turn the levers 91 to release the stop pins 90 which fix the side members to the bridge.
After the boarding of the passengers, the operator resumes spinning the guarantors, with which the spars are folded back away the boat from the side of the ship. The lowering of the side members is limited by the arms 81. The boat then descends to sea. At the beginning of this second phase, the davits remain blocked in the recesses of the side members by the action of the hooks 83. The release of
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
the boat takes place in the manner already described.
To hoist the boat: a) Hang the boat on the hoists and lift the board, if necessary. b) The winch is set in motion and the boat goes up; when the bars 68 of the movable pulleys 13 abut against the davits, the side members 79 turn towards the ship until they abut against the edge of the boat deck; at the same time the levers 84 abut against the consoles 85 by lifting the hooks 83 and thus freeing the davits to allow them to be folded inside. As the levers 84 touch the consoles 85, the shackles 89 which had previously been flipped out come into operation, engaging the hooks 87 to prevent accidental folding of these spars outwards caused by the tilt or roll of the ship.
The winch is then stopped and, by operating the shovel levers 96, the forks 95 are raised which consequently engage the protrusions 94 of the beams. The levers 96 are locked in their active position by pins.
By continuing to rotate the winch, the davits fold inwards until they press on their supports 27; at the moment the boat is moored using lashings 24 and humps 26.
At the same time as the beams, the stanchions and the support of the board fall back to their resting position.
In the embodiment shown in Figures 38 to 43, the automatic davits according to the invention are provided for two boats, 2 and 99, which are taken out of the edge at the same time and brought in successively. The maneuver can be performed by one person.
Each davit has two arms with a double set of guards winding separately to a double pair of drums of the same diameter of a special 100 winch.
<Desc / Clms Page number 17>
constituting each of the davits 1 must be placed at a double distance than in the previous embodiments, either so that the stability is great despite the greater height of the davits, or in order to accommodate the pulleys for returning the hoist cables of the two boats; the iron guides which constitute each of the beams 11 are correspondingly spaced and the supports 27 are wider.
The two pairs of winch drums have two clutch and locking devices controlled by two independent levers, 101 for the upper boat 2 and 102 for the lower boat 99 so that the two pairs of drums can rotate together or separately one from the other.
When one of the pairs of drums is disengaged, it is locked to the winch upright by means of a device comprising a stop pawl 103 placed on this upright and a toothed wheel 104 fixed to the shaft of one of the torque drums. above-mentioned; the same happens for the other pair of drums.
The remainder of all the davits of which above is quite identical to the type described for a single boat with the only difference that, in addition to the board 40 with automatic operation used for the boarding of passengers from the upper deck 37 in the upper boat, and which must be suitably long, another board 105 is provided which will be maneuvered by hand by the two sailors of the lower boat, this second board being used to embark the passengers in this second boat from the promenade deck 80.
Double arm davits for two boats work as follows, with only one operator required.
To bring: a) The two pairs of winch drums are

coupled together, and, after releasing the lashings, the winch brake is released: the davits then slide on the beams and then fold down as usual.
On the upper boat 2 which is in correspondence of the boat deck, the boarding board 40 is automatically placed while on the lower boat 99, which is in correspondence of the promenade deck, the two sailors of the The boat must fold down the other board 105 by hand, the winch being stopped.
The passengers embark at the same time from the two decks and in the meantime the operator disengages by means of the lever 101 the couple of drums of the guarantors of the upper boat and blocks this couple by means of the stop pawl: he then releases the winch brake to bring the lower boat. This accomplished, it brakes the winch again and, by operating the lever 102 and the corresponding stop pawl, it releases and locks the pair of drums of the boat brought in and, by operating the lever 101 again, it engages the drums of the upper boat, which he brings as soon as the lower boat has released.
To hoist the boats we do the reverse maneuver.
With this type of davit for two boats, the effort of each guarantor does not change, because the two pairs of guarantors contribute to the operation of the said davits, the power of the winch having to be greater than in the case of davits with only one. boat, in that the effort to be overcome to make the davits fold inwards and to bring them up along the beams is in this case increased by the weight of another boat and by the fact that the davits are necessarily heavier .
Although some of the embodiments of the invention have been described and shown in detail, it should be

of course that this was done for an explanatory purpose and not as a limitation because variants could be introduced to the device without departing from the scope of the invention
CLAIMS
1.- Automatic davits for lifeboats, characterized in that each davit of a pair has below its curved part for the support of the side of the boat, a protruding part suitable for serving for the support of the keel of the boat when the weight of the latter is not to be supported by the hoists, each of these davits being able to slide along a guide beam pivoted to a base fixed to the margin of the deck of the vessel and supported, at rest position (boat retracted)
by a support which, when the vessel is horizontal, maintains the beam at an inclination of approximately 30 with respect to the horizon, the arrangement of the assembly being such that when the davits have completed their sliding movement along the beams , the center of gravity of the system falls outside the vertical plane passing through the pivot points of rotation of the beams, which causes the automatic folding of the assembly to the service position.
