<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Comptoir Général for Trade and Industry COMETIN Percussion mechanism.
The invention relates to a percussion mechanism for projectiles.
In current projectiles, the percussion mechanism is made in such a way that, from the moment it is mounted, the firing pin is generally in the cocked position.
It is therefore essential, in order to avoid an untimely operation of these projectiles either during storage or during transport and handling, to provide them with safeguards which, while not always fully ensuring the passivity of the projectile, have the drawback of complicating these mechanisms and increase the cost price.
To remedy these drawbacks, the invention provides for producing a very simple percussion mechanism preventing any untimely operation of the projector which is provided with it.
For this purpose, the invention provides that the striker of said mechanism is formed so that any movement of the latter beyond its rest position under the influence of an external action gives rise to antagonistic elastic reactions, in d '' other words the striker constituted favorably by an elastic element can enter
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
in vibration under the accidental shocks received by the projectile, but will achieve the percussion only for the clearly determined conditions of the use of the said projectile.
The invention also provides in the case of hand grenades that the arming of the firing pin is carried out by releasing the operating lever.
The appended drawings show, by way of nonlimiting example, several embodiments of the invention. This extends to the various original features that include the arrangements shown.
Fig.l is a sectional view showing the percussion mechanism according to the invention applied to a hand grenade.
Figs. 2, 2a, 2b, 3, 3a, 4 and 4a are schematic views showing the percussion mechanism according to the invention applied to different projectiles.
According to fig.l the percussion mechanism comprises a striker 2 consisting of an elastic blade mounted, for example by screw, in the cap 3 of the grenade 4. The aforesaid blade provided with points such as 5 intended to cooperate with the primer 6 is placed by its free end 7, under the control of a nozzle 8 belonging to the operating lever 9 ... The latter pivoted at 10 on the aforesaid stopper and which is blocked in rotational movement by the removable safety pin 12 is further subjected to the action of a spring 13 housed in a suitable recess formed in the stopper.
Before moving on to the operation of the grenade, it should be noted that except in the case where one wants to make it work, this grenade is completely inert to shocks.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
that it could accidentally receive and its untimely explosion during transport, handling, is not to be feared because if the firing pin vibrates, under the action of any shock, these vibrations are insufficient to cause percussion and moreover the nose 8 of the operating lever, interposed between the striker and the primer, will play the role of safety. Similarly in the event of breakage of any part except the safety pin, the grenade also remains inert.
When the pin 12 is extracted from its housing, the operating lever 9 tends, under the bias of the spring 13, to pivot around the joint 10, but is prevented from doing so as long as the soldier holding the grenade in his hand immobilizes the lever Operating,
When the operating lever is released - it should be noted that the grenade is safe as long as the hand retains control of the movement of the aforementioned lever, it pivots, following the arrow I which has the effect, by the intervention of the beak 8 of the operating lever which rests on the firing pin, to lift it by deforming it, After a certain common stroke, the beak 8 suddenly releases the firing pin 2 which, under the effect of its elasticity, strongly strikes the primer 6 .
As the operating lever cannot then return to its original position, the exhaust of the gases is thus always ensured by the open openings.
It should be noted according to the invention that the operating lever 9 can be provided with several jaws such as 8 so as to produce for the same effective stroke of the aforesaid lever, a succession of armings and depressions of the firing pin 5, sufficient space between each spout being determined by
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
result; the striker can also favorably be provided .. with several percussion pins.
It should also be noted that the aforementioned elastic blade (striker) was not used at the time of operation, is only used once or a limited number of times and therefore it is therefore blank at the time of use. and safe from aging.
It should be noted that the stopper 3 of said grenade being very simple can easily and economically be produced either by pressure casting, or stamping or else be made of synthetic material such as galalith, bakelite and the like, the latter solution being very interesting and can also be applied to grenades in general and fireworks for example for which the dead weight comes into account.
An interesting feature also to be noted is the ease of mounting and removing the grenade without danger, which allows easy storage and as frequent checking of operation as desired. The tightness of the grenade is obtained by gluing on the starter holder 14 a washer of suitable material, this tightness being reinforced when the head is mounted, by the use of a suitable product to cover the joints. required by fixing the operating lever.
In fig.2 and 2a the percussion mechanism according to the invention is mounted in the cap 3 of a fusing rocket rifle grenade. At the start of this grenade, the projectile moving sharply forward, the firing pin 2 by inertia, undergoes a relative movement backwards and strikes the primer 6.
In fig.2b the mechanism according to the invention is
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
applied to a percussion fuze rifle grenade ', the elastic firing pin 2 normally remote from the primer 6 coming to strike the latter when the projectile strikes an obstacle.
In the embodiments shown in FIGS. 3 and 3a the percussion mechanism according to the invention is applied to projectiles for mortar trenches with percussion rockets, the operation of which is easily understood by simple examination.
In fig. 4 and 4a the percussion mechanism is applied to projectiles for rifled weapons with percussion fuze and fusing fuse respectively. The direction of rotation of these projectiles being indicated by the arrow, it is understandable in the case of fig.4, that when the projectile encounters an obstacle, the striker 2 is projected by inertia onto the primer 6 which is struck; in the case of fig. 4a, at the start of the projectile, the latter receives a sudden impulse of rotation along arrow I while the striker 2 simultaneously tends by inertia to stay behind and determines the percussion of the primer 6.
It is obvious that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described but also extends to any embodiment falling within the spirit or within the scope of the following claims.
