BREVET D'INVENTION Alexandre DEBAISIEUX à Fransnes-lez-Buissenal (Belgique).

PATENT OF INVENTION Alexandre DEBAISIEUX in Fransnes-lez-Buissenal (Belgium).
Device for atomizing and spraying liquids, with a view to carrying out operations, washing, dedusting, absor-p -tyon, cooling, gas or fumes, oondensation of vapor, and with a view to facilitating , to cause and accelerate physical and chemical actions and reactions between liquid and gaseous fluids.
The present invention relates to an atomization device, 1 with a view to causing energetic contact between gases and liquids, the effect of which is to intensify certain physical and chemical reactions between the elements thus brought together.
We frequently have recourse in industry, to so-called apparatus, gas washers, dust collectors, reaction or absorption towers, turbo-dispersurs, etc., either that one wishes to get rid of gases or fumes of solid elements in suspension, either that one wishes to eliminate or recover the soluble elements contained in a gas, or that one wishes to provoke or intensify a reaction between a gas and a liquid is finally that the it is desired to condense, cool, or heat a gaseous fluid by spraying a liquid fluid of a well-defined character. tie present device allows these different opera-.
-tions in a simple and efficient way.
It consists of disposing, the washing pipe for example, of such

so that the gas out. treated circulates above a slick of the liquid to be sprayed. A horizontal shaft is placed above the surface of the liquid, mounted on bearings located on the sides and on the outside of the washing chamber. equipped with vanes are oalés on the shaft, so that the periphery of each of these turbines, of special shape, is submerged by a certain proton- -deur with respect to the horizontal plane of the surface of the liquid.
The turbine or turbines integral with the shaft are driven by a slack. rotation event by means of some mechanical device.
The vanes are designed so that the turbine, while rotating, projects particles of the liquid, into the space of the washing or reaction chamber, occupied by the gas to be treated. Each particle of liquid projected by the turbine, describes a trajectory the shape and dimensions of which are functions of the speed of rotation, of the shape of the blades of the turbine and of the depth of immersion of the spraying device, in the liquid to be atomized.
In most cases, when one wishes to achieve by means of this device, a gas washing or dust removal installation, the lower part of the contact chamber serving as a liquid reservoir is arranged, so as to constantly draw off the gas. by means of a hydraulic seal device. and evacuation by overflows--, -ment, the liquid laden with impurities or saturated with the elements which it is desired to rid of the treated gas; while a certain quantity of liquid, washing or solvent, is introduced to the upper part. -eure of the washing chamber or the surface of the bowl.
It is easy to see that such a device realizes, in a sure, efficient and rational manner, any problem of atomization of liquid.
One of the main advantages of the device, which is the subject of the present invention, is to eliminate the use of a circulation pump with the turbine carrying out the atomization and circulation of the liquid in a closed cycle.
The same device realizes in an equally perfect way, the contacting of liquids and gases in reaction apparatus.

For example, in order to increase the efficiency of apparatus for manufacturing sulfuric acid, atomization turbines can be placed along the edges of the cuvettes of the lead chambers, projecting the acid through the space of the chamber. occupied by gases. This application of the present device achieves, in a simple and rational manner, an effect similar to that obtained by means of the so-called turbo-dispersers "devices currently employed in this industry, with a view to intensifying the yield and production of the lead chambers.
As a gas scrubber, this device finds a very opportune application, for washing the gases released during the treatment of phosphorites with sulfuric acid, in the fabrication.
-cation of superphosphate.
This device can also be used for removing dust from gases and fumes. For example, it is possible to eliminate dust in suspension in the gases escaping from the bears used for the manufacture of cement, by means of washing by spraying of water, obtained by applying the device that is the subject of this patent.
The applications described above are given, by way of example.
-plative and non-limiting.
The shape and construction of the atomization turbines constitute the essential features of the present invention.
An atomization turbine is made as follows; a thick disc of suitable metal or other material, is provided at its periphery with vanes in the form of a surface, cylindrical, or ellipsoidal, or parabolic, or hyperbolic, terminated by plane surfaces tangent to the curved surface. either straight, or going widening towards the periphery of the disc, are arranged on each side of the latter, so as to constitute the edges of the blades which produce, in a way, very special shaped spoons.
The turbine thus produced is offset at its center on a rotating shaft, and is partially immersed in the liquid to be sprayed in such a way that the hypothetical vertical plane of symmetry ...

..passing through the central axis of the curved surface forming the bottom of a blade, either perpendicular to the surface of the liquid to be atomized, parallel to the axis of rotation of the turbine, and at the same time bisecting plane of the angle that the supposedly extended planes of surfaces tangent to the curved surface would make between them.
The above condition should be considered as having to be fulfilled at the moment when a vane emerges from the liquid.
In practice, these turbines are produced from materials, cast, worked in the mass, or assembled. For each particular case, a material is adopted for the construction of the turbines which is as perfectly resistant as possible to the physical and chemical characteristics of the agents present. turbines fitted with a determined number of blades.
Depending on the case, one can either make wide turbines, or preferably narrow turbines, then increasing the number of these devices on the same shaft.
When several series of turbines are available, in the same washing chamber, whether or not provided with ch @@ anes, the turbines can advantageously be arranged in staggered rows by distributing them over several shafts, the direction of rotation of which can possibly be opposed. from one to the next.
The speed of rotation is determined practically, according to the shape and dimensions of the path of the liquid which is desired to be obtained, and according to the nature of this liquid, and according to the desired spray fineness.
The present invention is not limited to the partial examples of embodiments, and to the applications described.
The expressions used in the foregoing have been used to describe intention and should not be construed in a limiting sense.
