<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

EMI3.2
,q " relais verrou "; 1l;estYaotion retardée et doît'mairl- tenir pendant le temps nécessaire la liaison entre le circuit de connexion et la ligne de " rappelant " ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

forme le chiffrer suivant du numéro qu'il, veut appeler Ainsi l'émission d'un numéro- à deux chiffres s'il s'a- git d'un appel aux' services spéciaux, à 5 ou 6 chiffres s'il s'agit d'un numéro d'abonné - se traduira par.l'en. voi d'une succession de 2, 5 ou 6 trains d'impulsions* L'intervalle entre deux trains successifs est toujours beaucoup plus long que celui d'une impulsion;

Improvement in automatic telephones A large number of telephone subscribers, hoteliers, cafeterias, shopkeepers make their telephone apparatus available to customers. Among them there are people who, abusing the trust of the subscriber, thus take at his expense and without his knowledge, international and long-distance calls while only paying him the lower price of a local communication ..
This fraud, which is a frequent practice, is fraught with numerous difficulties between the network operator and the subscribers who have been duped in this way.
Doubtless these can to a certain extent monitor the communications, but if the control is serious it will appear indiscreet and vexatious to the sorupulous customers.
Moreover, the introduction of the "fast" long distance service, also called "no hooking up". thanks to which one can obtain on the spot, without recalling. long-distance communications, has made any possibility of serious control on the part of the subscriber illusory.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
For their part, the network operators also wanted to provide a means of eliminating the incriminated frauds: for that they established the "restricted service" oirouits which consist in connecting to the central, to special groups of machines called in trade language "cord and recorder circuits", the subscriber who requests it.
By such a connection, it is no longer possible to obtain only local communications, which obviously prevents any possibility of the fraud which concerns us, but also constitutes a nuisance for the holder of the device himself * D ' elsewhere, for reasons of profitability of the special installations that this system requires, the operator is forced to limit its application to large agglomerations and thus deprive all the connections of small rural power stations.
The object of the present invention is to apply to the subscriber's telephone apparatus a device such that, without the agreement of the holder, it will never be possible to obtain by this apparatus only local communications. The device in question will be fitted with an unlocking device by means of which the holder may, at his option, allow all long-distance, international or long-distance communications in the same way as with an ordinary device.
On the other hand, this device will only affect the subscriber's device, no modification whatsoever being necessary at the central station.Finally, in all oiroonstanoee, the device provided with this device will allow the irreproachable take-back. local communications. It can be seen from this that the system claimed by

Before describing more closely some forms of. realization of the invention it is necessary that @ us
EMI3.1
1 ,,: i1 .. #I recall oerta1nes "fundamental concepts common to most automatic telephony systems.
To put yourself in communication with the "annotators" with a view to obtaining interurban, international, ordinary or fast communication or to enter telephoned telegrams, you must adorn yourself on the "call disc". "of the automatic device certain numerical combinations, which generally start with the sign or with the number 1. In Belgium, for example, the combinations 01, 03 and '05 give respectively ordinary long distance service, the same fast service and the registration service for telephoned telegrams.
The device according to the invention must be such that, by operating an appropriate lock, it is possible to modify the device in such a way that it no longer transmits calls to said annotators.
When a holder of a telephone device picks up his receiving device, he initiates at the central preliminary operations which connect his line to a connection circuit composed essentially of three relays, which are represented in fig 1 of the drawing oi - appended: The first relay designated by the letter A is called impulse relay, is fast acting and proves itself on the "calling party" line; the relay designated by B is called
EMI3.2
, q "latch relay"; It is delayed and must maintain the connection between the connection circuit and the "recall" line for the necessary time;
\ finally relay 0, called "switching relay" or
EMI3.3
"relay.aiguilleur" is also aotion delayed - and has the function of distinguishing between the various digits which will be transmitted by the operation of the call disc.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
As soon as the link with the connection circuit is established, the caller is notified by the well-known hearing signal; it is then that it can form the number of its correspondent. While it rotates the disc, it binds a spring contained in the case of the disc, and at the same time turns a toothed wheel shown in fig. 2 and designated by the letter P, an arrow indicating the direction of its rotation. When the disc is turned, the teeth of the wheel P cause the pawl H to tilt, the roller G of which is thus remote from the springs D to which the two wires of the line marked "a" and "b" are connected.
Left to itself, the disc returns to its rest position with a constant speed, thanks to the action of a centrifugal force regulator housed
EMI4.1
in the housing and nop shown in fig. 2. During this return movement, the toothed wheel P also turns in the opposite direction. And each of its teeth operates at its own
EMI4.2
pass the oliquet Ei and each time the roller OE loosens the springs D which causes the opupure of the line; on the other hand, between two teeth, the pawl H is released, the 'roller G falls back and the line is reestablished.
There is thus produced a succession of cuts which are called pulses, each of which lasts approximately 1% 158, of a second and the number of which is equal to the number of the disc which has been brought against the stopper, with this reserve, however, that to the sign 0 correspond 10 pulses *
Relay A, which is looped on the line, is actuated by each of the pulses ¯ and thanks to a series

form the next cipher of the number he wants to call Thus the emission of a two-digit number if it is a call to 'special services, 5 or 6 digits if it is 'is a subscriber number - will translate to. see a succession of 2, 5 or 6 pulse trains * The interval between two successive trains is always much longer than that of a pulse;
it is of the order of 1/2 second minimum, ie 7 to 8 times that of a pulse.
Relay C is activated at the same time as relay A from the first impulse, but as the reverse of this it is endowed with a certain laziness. fallen, it does not fall between two -pulses of a "marl train but in the longer-intervals" which separate these trains of impulses. On each drop after receiving a digit, the armature of relay 0 thus prepares the reception of the next digit and thus discriminates between them *
Finally, the relay B, which presents an even more marked laziness when it drops, it does not even fall back between two trains of pulses and its role is not of interest to the present invention.
These points established, we will describe a few. embodiments of the object of the present invention in order to better understand the mechanism, but it should be understood that these descriptions are provided only by way of example and not limit the invention which also embraces all others. embodiments.

1. Let us first examine a simple application oas which could be suitable on most automatic telephones installed in Belgium, where the special services have a vindictive beginning with the sign C, where the subscriber set is of the type of those adopted by the "Bell Telephone Manufacturing Company" of Antwerp (its types 2712 A or 2714 4 for example) and where finally the installation of the

Finally it remains for us to explain the role of 1 'electro magnet R'. Its goal is to thwart two means of fraud, for which the previous devices are not sufficient. ,.
1 You can form the number 0 and only pick up the receiver at the end of the outward movement of the disc, when the finger touches the stop. Contact C2 will open normally but as the connection circuit is not yet established, its pulse is lost; the deformation of 0 is not performed and oelui-oi will be recorded without alteration. To prevent us from being able to maneuver in this way, we must not be able to maneuver the disc before having stalled. A mechanical blocking as shown in fig. 3 fulfills this desideratum.
EMI10.1
3 "/ You can pick up normally> but immediately, before the preseleation is finished, start an impulse by the disc (forming 1). This produces an impulse which will not be recorded, but at the same time you have made operate relay R which, remaining locked, allows the transmission of any number starting with zero without contact C2 being able to alter the recording *

We can see that the contact R2 remains attracted during the conversation and we can apply to it everything that has been said for the relay R of the previous system * We can in particular add an additional working contact as indicated in fig 4 in order to thwart the fraud which consists in forming the impulses by the fourohe of the devices not provided with dash pot.
It is also possible to reduce its influence on the miarophonic current by weighting it by means of a capacitor. However, for the device described above, an ignition key is available to the holder of the telephone set by means of which he can
