<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Improvements to rotary pumps
The present invention relates to an improved rotary pump.
Inside a casing, turns around the main axis of the machine an outer cylinder subdivided, by partition, into cells inside each of which is housed a drum mounted eccentric with respect to the axis main above, said drum receiving its movement from the outer cylinder, by means of a pallet fixed radially in said cylinder and sliding through a passage made in the drum,
For each pump cell, said cylinder and drum rotating at the same time, around their respective fixed axes, leave between them a crescent-shaped pump chamber which the aforesaid vane separates into two chambers of increasing volume and decreasing, the fluid sucked (or respectively discharged) at the periphery of the cylinder,
being pushed back (or respectively sucked in), through the central channel of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the fixed shaft, the section of passage of said channel being naturally a function of the pump flow rate.
According to the present invention, said channel is eccentric with respect to the main axis of the machine, while the bearings of the internal drums are concentric with said channel, so that it is possible to give these bearings a very small diameter. - meter (equal to the diameter of the channel plus the thickness of the material provided for the wall of the shaft) and, therefore, to obtain a small overall size, in diameter, of the pump.
The outer cylinder will journal, by its end flanges, around shaft ends aligned with the main axis of the machine.
These shaft ends can be dissimilar (asymmetrical arrangement)) that aitué side of the discharge (or respectively of the suction) being of large diameter, while the other can be provided full and of small diameter to serve only crankcase fixing point and journal for the outer cylinder.
These shaft ends can, on the contrary, be provided symmetrical, both drilled and of large diameter, one of the channels serving for delivery (or respectively for suction) and the other being able to be closed by plug or receive any safety device (by-pass, etc.).
In both of the embodiments provided for above, as well as in any other intermediary that practice might suggest, the centered shaft ends may be in one piece with the middle portion eccentric. of the shaft or be attached to this median portion by fitting, keying, mortising or other means.
The outer cylinder is integrally connected to a ring gear meshing with a drive pinion housed in the housing, provided with a stuffing box, so that the ring and
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
@ the toothed pinion are bathed in the liquid which fills the space between the crankcase and the outer cylinder, the space communicating with the suction (or delivery) duct
Other improvements will emerge more clearly around the following description given with reference to the appended drawing which shows, only by way of indication, two preferable embodiments of the invention.
In this drawing: fig.1, is a longitudinal section of a two-cell pump with shaft, not symmetrical; Fig.2, is a cross section: taken along line 2-2 of Figure 1; fig.3, is a longitudinal sectional view of a pump variant with symmetrical shaft.
The casing is made up of two parts a with parting line (assumed vertical in the example shown), one of the parts carries the suction (or respectively delivery) pipe c. In the central part of the machine, keyed in relation to the casing, is located a fixed shaft d, the bore e of which serves as a delivery channel (or respectively aspiration) without the addition of any sealing member (presae - gasket or other).
The channel d is eccentric with respect to the longitudinal axis x- x of the machine, while the shaft ends f g are aligned along the x-x axis and serve for attachment to the housing (by locking).
The outer cylinder h has end flanges h 'h' '' respectively rotating around the shaft ends f g and, therefore, centered with respect to the longitudinal axis x-x of the machine.
In its middle part, the shaft .4 serves as bearings for the internal drums i i '(with the interposition, if necessary, of bas-
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
gues reducing friction), said drums thus rotating around the y-y axis of the channel e.
The drums! i 'receive their rotational movement from cylinder h, through the intermediary and the means of pallets kk' rigidly and radially fixed (figure 2) in the cylinder (by embedding on three sides for example) and sliding through the drums 1 , i 'by household passages in said drums and provided with two half-ball joints 1 which allow the various relative positions of the drums 1 with respect to the cylinder h.
The pump comprising n cells debiting in parallel (for the regularity of the torque, the n vanes k will be angularly offset with respect to each other by 360 (i.e. 180 in the n case of two pump cells envisaged in the drawing) . a where the separating partitions m of the cylinder h limit and separate from each other the spaces o (or pump chambers), in the shape of crescents., formed, for each pump cell, between the cylinder and the drum considered.
In the example shown, it is assumed that, this partition II not extending to the shaft d, communication could be established from a pump cell to the neighboring cell, to the interior of the drums i i '.
Lights 1 are drilled in the wall of the shaft d conveniently between the bearings of the drums i i ', constantly putting the internal capacity of the drums in communication with the delivery (or respectively the suction).
An orifice u drilled in each drum 1, on the other hand, establishes the communication of the internal capacity of the drum with one of the faces of the pallet k. while the other face is placed in communication with the aapiration (or respectively the discharge) by an orifice pierced therein in the cylinder h.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
On the cylinder h is fixed, by appropriate means, a toothed ring q meshing with a drive pinion r and a stuffing gland ** b 'ensures the sealing of the enclosure s between cylinder and casing, in which the crowns are immersed and toothed pinion, said enclosure communicating directly with the suction (or respectively the discharge).
In the example of FIG. 1, it was assumed that the shaft ends f g were dissimilar. conne normally only the end of the shaft g is used for the passage of the fluid, it has only been provided with a sufficiently large diameter to, on the one hand, keep the same section of passage to the channel e which extends to. through it and, on the other hand, to catch up with the declining of this channel. The other end of the shaft f has been designed to be solid and of small diameter to serve only as a point of attachment (by keying) to the casing and as a journal for the flange h 'of the outer cylinder h.
In the example of FIG. 3, on the contrary, a symmetrical arrangement of the shaft has been shown, the two shaft ends f g being similarly drilled and, therefore, of large diameter.
One g is used for the delivery (or respectively for suction) of the fluid, while the other f can be closed by a plug or receive any appropriate safety device.
In either case, the shaft end (s) which are of large diameter lend themselves to the immediate increase in the section of the channel e by using the available location to directly conform to it divergent cones such as f 'g' (figure 3).
The two cases shown respectively in Figures 1 and 3 are borderline cases, so to speak, but it is obvious that we can conceive of all intermediate embodiments as the respective proportion of the shaft ends, length, etc ...
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
In all cases, the centered ends of the shaft fg can be in one piece (figure 1) with the eccentric median portion of the shaft, the one which serves as bearings for the internal drums i il) or be attached (figure 3) in end of this middle portion, the assembly being carried out by fitting, keying, mortising or other suitable means (which provides a more economical solution) *
The operation of the pump of the invention is easy to understand.
If we consider one of the pump cells and if we assume that the rotors (centered outer cylinder h, on the one hand, and eccentric inner drums on the other hand), rotate in the direction of arrow z (figure 2), the suction is done behind the paddle on race k1 through the orifice v, so that the paddle continuously sucks from aon departure from the tangency generator (line wk) until its return to this same generator.
In the next turn, the pump chamber (crescent-shaped space) between the cylinder and the drum having been filled with the fluid sucked in the previous turn, this fluid is returned through the orifice u moving constantly in front of the puck. te k (face k2) and it passes inside the drums ii ', from where, through the lights 1 of shaft 1, it finally enters channel 2 of this shaft to be driven back.
It can be seen that for each pump cell, there is constant suction on one face k1 of the pallet and discharge on the other face k2 without ever changing the direction of flow of the fluid.
In the case of a two-cell pump, the flow rates overlap due to the offset of the vanes, so that the total flow rate is almost absolutely regular and the resisting force has a practically constant magnitude. ; the increase
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
the number of cells naturally leads to an improvement in regularity.
It is obvious that by reversing the direction of rotation of the pump, the liquid will flow in the opposite direction: .inversely, sucked at the end of the hollow shaft and discharged through the orifice c of the housing. Likewise, by reversing the respective arrangements of the suction ports v and discharge ports u on either side of the pallet
EMI7.1
(figure 2), that is to say by drilling Porif'ice 11. behind the pallet and no longer in front (if we consider the direction of rotation z) and similarly by locating the orifice v in front of the pallet and no longer behind it. The operation of the pump remains the same but the crescent-shaped part of the volume which expelled its fluid inside the pump will then expel it outwards, hence reversing the direction of flow of the fluid.
Finally, any modifications of detail may be made. according to the invention, according in particular to the nature of the liquid conveyed, the mode of actuation and the characteristics, themselves, of the pump.
