L'invention est relative au procédé pour effectuer de fagon continue le dégarnissage de voies ferrées de leur ballast, produire l'épuration du ballast et assurer le relevage des voies sur ballast épuré, qui consiste en principe à faire circuler sur la voie même à trairer une longue poutre rigide montée à ses extrémités sur 2 boggies et portant à sa partie médiane un ou plusieurs excavateurs qui passent sous la voie soulevée au-dessus du ballast ;

L'appareil selon l'invention est représenté en vue d'ensemble Fig.l qui est une élévation longitudinale;

Fig.7 est une coupe 4-4 de la Fig. 5; Fig.8 est une coupe de détail des godets à la partie supérieure de l'excavateur au travail, montrant le déversement du ballast dans la trémie;
Figs.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
1 - guider les godets sous la voie de façon à obtenir une fouille bien plane;
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
pioches 29.
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

continuous ballast of railways ".
The object of the present invention is a new embodiment of the apparatus for the application of this method.
The new device has several characteristic arrangements which will be well understood by the description which follows and will be specified below,

Fig.2 is a cross section of the excavator 1 taken along line 1-1 of Fig.l;

As can be seen in this drawing, the new device comprises for example two excavators 1 and 2; the first is shown in the working position, while the second is shown in the road position.
The ballast removed by the excavators is dumped into the feed hoppers of a flat belt conveyor 3 which brings the ba.llast backwards to feed a scale elevator 4 which dumps the product onto a vibratory screen 5.
Waste and dust are taken up under the sieve by another flat belt conveyor 6 and discharged either onto

a transporter 7 for loading wagons at the rear, or on a transverse transporter 8 which rejects them on the shoulder of the track.
The purified ballast is rejected under the track through corridors 9 and is leveled by a leveling equalizer device 10 similar to those already described in the applicant's previous patents.
Each excavator can move together:
1 - Vertically, to allow adjustment of the ballast draw-off depth, thanks to a frame 14 Fig.l which carries the excavator and which slides vertically in a fixed frame 15, integral with the frame of the beam P. The vertical movement of the mobile frame is controlled by an electric motor 16 actuating the lifting screws 17 (Figs. 1 and 3) by means of a worm gear reducer and of angle transmissions 18.
2 - Transversely, that is to say in the direction perpendicular to the track, to allow the excavator to remain centered on the axis of the track when working on a curve.
For this purpose, each excavator rests on the frame 14 by means of a 2nd frame 19 moving by means of a roller device on horizontal tracks 20, Fig. 4, carried by the frame 14.
The transverse movement is controlled by a handwheel 21 and transmitted by a worm gear reducer and spur gears engaging a rack 22 fixed on the transverse frame 19 Çzigs. 1 and 4).
3 - Finally, the chain tension is ensured by an electric motor 23 (Fig. 2) controlling two screw jacks 24 which raise or lower the upper part of the excavator relative to the whole of the transverse frame 19 thanks to the pivoting obtained around an axis 25 fixed on this frame (Fig.2).
According to the invention, each excavator has two chains 11a, 11b which support the buckets 11, Fig. 2, by their lateral faces and which are guided in their passage under
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the track by two lateral chain guides 12, Fig. 7, framing the buckets and braced between them so as to form a frame which supports two longitudinal slides or runners 13 on which the track sleepers rest (Figs. 2, 3 , 5, 6 and 7).
This arrangement makes it possible to achieve an important new result which is the following. If the excavator is raised or lowered vertically, the track is raised or lowered by the same amount. The chain guides fulfill a dual role:
1 - guide the buckets under the track so as to obtain a very flat excavation;
2 - carry and lift the track continuously as the device moves along the track, the cross members sliding through their lower part on the slides carried by the chain guides.
The arrangement of the chain guide frame which has just been described has the advantage of being simple and of making it possible to obtain the minimum construction distance between the underside of the cross members and the upper part of the buckets during the advancement of the device along the track, without risk of hooking the buckets in the sleepers.
For a specific type of bucket working at a determined digging depth, a minimum lane lifting height is thus obtained. However, it is very important to reduce this lifting to a minimum for the same length of the device between the closest inner axles in order to reduce the forces supported by the rails.
The chains at. buckets of the excavators are controlled by two cakes 26, (Figs. 1, 2,3, 4 wedged on a shaft which receives its movement from an electric motor 27, through the intermediary of ur, force limiter and spur gears. They pass to the lower part on return cakes 28 (Fig. 2). @ The buckets 11 carry at their base, on the front side, /
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
pickaxes 29.
As the chains are subjected during work to a combined movement of advancement along the track, due to the translation of the whole apparatus and of rotation around the shafts 26 and 28, it follows that the picks 29 attack a horizontal slice of ballast by breaking it up and channeling it towards the inside of the buckets and passing it under the frame of the front guide bar (Figs. 5, 6, 7).
The picks protrude from the anterior part of the guide - chalne towards the front (Fig. 7), so that a horizontal slice of ballast can be attacked at a height greater than the free space existing between the underside of the guide -chain and the excavation bottom, without the ballast jamming up front against the chain guide or against the side face of the buckets.
This arrangement helps to reduce the lifting of the track to a minimum for the same digging depth.
At the exit of the buckets to the outside of the track, the buckets pass in front of a shield 30 of cylindrical-conical shape, (Figs. 2, 5, 6), the concavity of which is turned towards the front, so that towards the front of the buckets there is between the buckets and the shield an appropriate espa.ce 31 and that towards the rear of the buckets this space 32 is practically zero (Fig.6).
The ballast which the buckets push in front of them arrives in the shield, goes up along the shield, partly flowing backwards in order to completely fill (thanks to the conical shape of the shield) the buckets over their entire length.
This arrangement makes it possible to produce a high-performance excavator consisting of buckets elongated in the longitudinal direction of the track and relatively flat, so as to be able to remove the ballast from the track under a relatively thin layer while carrying out a slight lifting of the track. under the machine.
The reactions due to the advancement of the buckets in the bal-
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
last are absorbed by ga.lets 33 vertical axis (Figs. 5 and 7) mounted in the rear guide bar.
The bottom 34 of the buckets is inclined as seen in Fig.8, and the buckets are brought together such that the. ballast emptying from a bucket is done on the bottom of the previous bucket, Fig. 8; thanks to the appropriate inclination of the bottom the ballast is thrown into the loading hopper 35 of the conveyor belt.
This arrangement is particularly advantageous for keeping a high-performance excavator with close-knit buckets at high speed of rotation and nevertheless discharging the ballast inside the chains at a suitable angle of deflection so that the ballast falls into the loading hopper located at the right of the excavator's head cake (26),
It remains to examine how the start-up and commissioning of the device are carried out.
Each excavator has side arms 40 pivoting on axes 41 carried by the frame of the excavator, The lower ends of these arms can be coupled with the chain guides 12, position of Fig.2.
To go from the working position, Fig. 2, to the road position, Fig. 3, we start by cutting the excavator chains into two sections, as shown in Fig. 3. Then the arms 40 are raised, so that the folded device is registered in the template G of the track Fig.3.
The lifting of the arms 40 can be produced automatically by means of chains 44, one end of which is fixed at 45, which pass over pulleys 48 integral with the excavator, over fixed pulleys 47 and 46 and whose other end is attached. at 42 to the arms 40. When the excavator is raised, the chain 44 is pulled and rotates the arms by folding them back into their position in Fig.3.
The guide bars and buckets located in the guide chains remain under the track until work resumes.
So as not to create a drop in the profile along
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
of the track, at the end of a work period, we took the precaution before abandoning the chain guides to lower the excavator to the bottom to completely erase the chain guides under the non-raised track so that the way may well take its place.
Switching to the working position is done in reverse.
It goes without saying that at the start of a construction site, the chain guides and the corresponding bucket chain part are first placed under the track by any suitable means,
In curves, the track is kept in place, in the event that it tends to slip, by a device which can be pressed strongly on the inside edge of the right or left rail depending on the direction of the curvature.
This device comprises a roller 50 (Fig.l). Figs. 9 and 10 show the detail of this device. The roller 50 which comes to rest against the inner edge of the rail 55, is mounted at the end of an arm 51 capable of rotating about an axis 52 which is solid with the main beam, the rotation of the arm around this. axis being controlled by a steering wheel 53.
The track is held in place by the simultaneous action of the rollers 49, integral with the excavator Fig. 2, and by the roller 50.
It can be seen, for example, that the more the angle [alpha] (Fig.10) decreases, the more the track is pushed laterally in the direction of the arrow.
The above arrangements are given only by way of example, the shapes, dimensions, materials used and any detail arrangements may vary without changing the principle of the invention.
