<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Method and device for taking and projecting views in relief". the present invention relates to a new method for taking and projecting pictures, the original result of which is to allow such projection or reproduction that the images appear in relief. Methods exist which contribute to obtaining such a result, however, either they are defective, or else they require corrective means to be interposed in the optical field of the spectator. These latter processes include in particular anaglyphs.
The method in accordance with the invention consists essentially in taking the pictures simultaneously with the intervention of two light fields, which are directed towards said views, while the alternative of the receptions of the camera is caused, for example. to the intervention of a
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
me mobile, moving at a suitable speed between fixed prisms. A similar arrangement is provided for the projection apparatus, which therefore entails similar modifications to the operating method of said projection.
Such a new method therefore requires substantial modifications of the various apparatuses successively employed and for the taking of pictures, and for the projection of pictures, subsequently modifications must be made to the receiver of the images. It should be noted that the above-mentioned new process can be carried out with the intervention of numerous apparatuses of the protection of which the inventor relies.
However, in order to bring out the object of the invention more clearly, the latter sets out below the modifications recommended for the aforesaid devices as well as for the receiving screen.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows schematically the essential elements of the camera; fig.2 shows schematically the essential elements of the projection apparatus; fig.3 shows schematically the new arrangement of the receiver screen.
According to FIG, 1, the camera therefore comprises two objectives 1 and 2, having exactly the same characteristics and each located in front of a fixed prism 3 and 4 respectively. The latter two are separated by a suitable distance, in which is disposed a mobile prism 5, which is capable of being driven by a displacement movement such that it projects alternately onto the film 6, arranged opposite the window 7, the images reflected by the fixed prisms 3 and 4.
The other elements of the shooting device or "camera" are substantially the same as those included
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
in known devices.
Also, the printing of the films thus obtained is carried out in the same manner as for ordinary films.
However, the reproduction of the films obtained according to the new method and apparatus requires substantial modifications due to the alternation of the figures, these being reflected in continuous order by the left objective and then by the right objective.
Modifications to the reproduction apparatus consist in being able to use the latter with a set of fixed and movable prisms. This arrangement is shown diagrammatically in FIG. 2, in which 8 and 9 are said fixed prisms, while 10 is a mobile prism capable of oscillating suitably between the former. Opposite the fixed prisms are arranged two sets of lenses 11 and 12 forming the objectives, the refraction angles of which are slightly different, ie for example of the order of 25. Such a difference is for example the consequence of a difference in the distance separating the lenses of the same objective.
The latter is also supplemented in the ordinary way by the lamp, the condenser, etc., necessary for the projection of the images of the film 13 for example.
Finally, the modifications made to the receiving screen consist mainly in projecting images alternately on two screens, arranged side by side, one being slightly further apart than the second. These screens are illustrated in figure 3 at 14 and 15.
Behind the screen 15 and obliquely is arranged a total reflection mirror 16, while parallel to the latter and behind the screen 14 is located a semi-transparent screen 17. the optical field of the viewer being directed normally to the field of
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
lwnineuse projection, it follows that the projected images 18 are perceived by the spectator through the mirror and screen and because of the speed of the alternating projections the said projected views appear perfectly in relief. Moreover, such a view is adjustable by the simple fact of modifying the position of the screen 15. In fact, the latter can be replaced following a translational movement in a duly pre-established space.
It should be noted that the process as well as the recommended new apparatus and equipment can be used in whole or in part, given that, for example, it would be perfectly possible to obtain a vision in relief on the basis of the indications necessary for taking the image. views, such as those developed previously, and by making use of any corrective means for the perception of these same views subsequently projected. Finally, it should also be noted that the method and possibly the devices can be applied in a similar manner and for a similar purpose in the fields of television, photography, etc.
In addition, shots can be taken with the same ease with sound and receptivity of color shots, etc.
CLAIMS.
