BREVET D'INVENTION
EMI1.1
1l13yU7" >1il'il-GAI A PAM THANSPARENT1JJ,
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Ces pièces pourront être en métal ou en d'autres matières appropriées, tout comme dans les masques ordinaires, ou bien du même matériel ciue la face du masque, c'est-à-dire de celluloïd ou acetylcellulose ou analogues;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

EMI1.1
1l13yU7 "> 1il'il-GAI A PAM THANSPARENT1JJ,
Masks are already known which have the face of a rigid and transparent material, such as glass or celluloid, and are provided with a flexible sealing border, as well as with a harness to hold the mask to the body. face and create the necessary pressure on the border for sealing.
The presence of the harness causes in practice several drawbacks, especially because the harness requires special instruction or training of individuals, if it is desired that the application of the mask can be done with the necessary speed. In addition, the harness must first be adapted to the wearer's head, which must be done by adjusting the length of the various ribbons that make it up. On the economic side, the harness also involves labor costs which are not indifferent, while its attachments to the face of the mask represent weak points and a source of concern because of tearing, leaks, etc. to which they can give rise.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
These drawbacks make the masks in question even less suitable, especially in all cases where people are uneducated in a particular way for their use, especially the masses of the civilian population.
The object of the present invention is to create a niasque with a transparent face, without a harness, such as that shown in the appended figures.
Masks without a harness, that is to say, shaped like a hood, are already known; but a transparent face has never been applied to these masks, whereas, in masks intended for the civilian population, and therefore preferably for women, children and the elderly, this is necessary for obvious reasons.
The face of the mask can be made of celluloid, acetylcellulose, glass, etc., or else of transparent elastic gum, and it will be given the necessary shape using any suitable means, such as eg stamping, melting, etc. In order to achieve a subsequent economy, for example in the case of celluloid faces, the face can be made from celluloid that is not perfectly transparent but only translucent, cutting out of it the part corresponding to the eyes, and then adapting to these holes, by any suitable method, perfectly transparent, arbitrarily shaped celluloid rings.
In addition to any glasses of more transparent material, the face of the mask may also have other added parts or forming a single body with it, such as valve bases, mouthpieces, internal ventilation pipes, filter casings, etc.
These parts may be made of metal or of other suitable materials, just as in ordinary masks, or else of the same material ciue the face of the mask, that is to say of celluloid or acetylcellulose or the like;
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
@ in the latter case they can form a single body with the face, or else be assembled to it by the usual means: for example, if it is celluloid, the surfaces to be assembled can be moistened with acetone , and then make them adhere by pressure.
The face of the mask is provided with a flexible and elastic hooded border, which completely covers the skull, goes down in front of or behind the ears, and wraps the chin.
For the manufacture of this border, natural or synthetic elastic gum can be used, by pulling this border from a sheet calendered by stamping or from a sawn sheet, or else directly aqueous dispersions of natural or artificial gums. by any of the processes in use, or finally solutions of gum in benzine, benzol, or other suitable solvent.
The application of the mask is very easy and is carried out by inserting the chin into the mask which is held with one hand by its upper part, and then pulling it backwards, sliding it over the skull. The tightness, due to the material's inherent elasticity, is immediate, while continuous use does not produce any troublesome pressure, due to the course of the tightness line.
The attachment between the face and the hooded rim can be effected in any way, for example by means of glues, sealants, etc., or by a mechanical connection of any size. wears what kind, by suture and gum tissue joint covers, in the case of the attached figures. In the case of a transparent elastic gum face, pn can stamp the mask in one piece, by placing in the mold, in the part corresponding to the face, a gum paste capable of producing transparent gum during vulcanization. , while a non-transparent gum paste will be used just as well for the cap. During vulcanization, the two qualities of gum weld together perfectly.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
In the appended figures is shown a possible embodiment of the invention: the pin 1 is a side view and FIG. 2 a front view of the mask applied in service. This mask has one side. of translucent celluloid, with ovoid glasses in transparent celluloid, attached and joined to the face by the methods in use for this type of material. The hooded border c is made of elastic rubber; it has a thickness of about 1 mm. and is reinforced all around with a rubber hem as well. The junction between the border and the face is obtained using an e suture, covered with a double joint cover of gummed tissue and mastic.
The mouthpiece for valves f of any type is connected to the filter g either directly, as in the figure, or by means of a corrugated pipe, or possibly by any other suitable system.
The example given is not, however, limiting, since the details of the mask can vary without departing from the scope of the invention. Thus, for example, it is possible, for example, to adapt to the face of the mask still other devices suitable for improving the operation of the latter, such as for example pipes for internal ventilation, or to modify the same. arrangement, type and number of valves, filter, etc. The characteristic of the invention consists in the coupling of a transparent face and a flexible and elastic rim with hood, in order to avoid the use of a harness and to make the mask suitable for the wearer. Use of large masses, of the civilian population, the variations mentioned or the like obviously do not carry any change in said characteristic and they therefore remain included in the invention.
In addition, as has been said above, some of the said accessories, such as for example the mouthpiece or the casing of the filter, which normally are made of metal, or of ebonite, or of bake. lite, or other synthetic material, can be made, for
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
for reasons of economy or expediency, the same translucent material that makes up the face of the mask, and even be made in one piece with it.
