<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Improvements to the Rack Dryers using the different
Domestic or other heating systems.
The object of the present invention is the improvement of rack driers, using the various domestic or other heating systems, by adding to it a temperature exchanger which more completely transmits to the drier the heat released from the fuel burnt in the oven. their home. the known dryers consist of several racks, generally superimposed and maintained by a framework which facilitates the interchangeability of the racks, the whole is mounted on a metal base, perforated to let the ventilation air enter under the hurdles.
This set is placed on a domestic or other fireplace, such as a stove, stove; the air entering through the openings of the plinth, is heated on contact with the top of the heater and rises through the racks, thus drying. the products displayed on them.
The throughput of the dryer is therefore limited and is reduced by the small surface area of radiation presented by the heater under the base of the dryer. In addition, this method of heat exchange is of poor efficiency, in proportion to the fuel consumed in the hearth. If in order to increase heat transmission the temperature of the top of the fireplace is increased, there is a risk that the material being processed will deteriorate.
This heating system has no heat flywheel, it follows that this unstable temperature causes

troubles in the operation of the dryer.
Known rack dryers cannot be installed directly on a gas, petrol, petroleum or other stove, if the product to be treated fears direct contact with the fumes.
The present invention, which consists in adding a temperature changer to the rack dryer, overcomes all these drawbacks.
This intermediate device between the heating device adopted and the dryer, ensures the proper functioning of the assembly. This temperature exchanger, with a larger radiation surface, uses more completely the heat released from the burnt fuel. , in the heating system used; transmits more calories to the ventilation air required for drying, even at lower heat exchange temperatures.
The dryer has its throughput increased with a reduced fuel expenditure. The mass of this heat exchanger forming a heat flywheel regulates the treatment temperature and avoids gunshots on the material. The large radiating surface of the The exchanger intensifies the ventilation inside the dryer.
The temperature exchanger prevents contact of combustion gases with the ventilation air. The dryer, thus equipped, can therefore be installed on an oil, gas, etc. stove without risk of damaging the products to be dried. The temperature exchanger can be constructed in different forms, and different systems, in principle it consists of one or more metal walls, one side of which is brought into contact with hot combustion gases and the other side transmits by convection. and radiating this heat into the ambient air, without there being any mixture between the combustion gases and the air to be heated. The exchanger may return flames, in this case the combustion gases,
go up and down in the radiator to be evacuated by the chimney of the hearth. The exchanger can also be fitted with an independent chimney for the evacuation of the combustion gases.
The heat exchanger can be designed so that the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
heat is conveyed by an intermediate medium, liquid or gaseous; in this case, the exchanger is built in the form of a receptacle, one part of which is placed in the hearth in contact with the combustion gases and the other in the base of the dryer .Between these two parts is placed a screen preventing the mixing of combustion gases with the ventilation air.
The heat exchanger may be constructed in the form of a solid or hollow fin cap, a spiral, a tube bundle, or any other shape. It goes without saying that the shapes, details, materials and dimensions of the apparatus may vary. without harming the novelty of the application and the invention.
By way of example only, the following will be described: A rack dryer fitted with a temperature exchanger fitted to a domestic hearth.
The cast iron radiator is in the form of a cap with hollow fins, it is surrounded by a metal jacket allowing air to enter at its base and serving to guide it on the radiator, and then under the racks. the base of the dryer on which the stack of racks rests. The assembly is placed above a hearth with its cover removed. The combustion gases enter the exchanger, heats it which, by its large radiating surface allows an intensive transmission of heat from the burnt gases to the air intended for the dryer.
The sliding cover on the radiator thus makes it possible to regulate the treatment temperature by admitting a more or less large quantity of ventilation air under the screens.
In order to understand the improvements which are the subject of the present invention, by way of example we will describe by means of four figures drawn on the attached board various embodiments of a rack dryer with or without improvement.
Fig. I represents in section a rack dryer, not improved, using as heat source the top of a stove. (A) designates the shelves, (b) the base with its cold air opening receiving the stack of (c) the stove,

This device has its part (k) introduced into the hearth, to be brought into contact with the! combustion gas, its part, (i) located in the base of the dryer transmits heat to the ventilation air, (j) is a screen preventing the combustion gas from mixing with the air admitted into the dryer. fall. The liquid or the gas circulating 'by density difference in the coil, increases the heat exchange.
