Fig.I est nne coupe en élévation par a-h I de Fig.2.
Fig.3 et 4 sont des coupes par h-i et h-i' de Fig.2.

Patent of Invention Clarification wells for the purification of waste water.
There are known clarification installations comprising an annular deposition chamber, in particular installations in which the deposition chamber is disposed entirely below the water level. In installations of the latter type, the deposition chamber comprises towards the bottom a slit-shaped orifice intended for the evacuation of the settled muddy matter, just as there is towards the top an identical orifice intended for the evacuation of the floating matter.
Due to the concentration of floating matter on the upper surface, there is this danger that due to the excessive thickness of the floating layer, or as a result of the upward and downward movements of the muddy materials, floating materials can be dragged towards the exit port.
The object of the present invention is to prevent this evacuation or this entrainment towards the outside of the floating sludge forming the upper layer. The device consists in that the upper slit of the chamber of

deposit is completely closed on the side of the outlet orifice over a more or less long extent. The member intended to close this upper slot may have the shape of a straight plate or also have a suitable profile downwards. form of double slope, so that the floating materials while rising go towards the inlet orifice on the upper surface, that is to say, so that the reversed double slope is arranged so that its point is in = below the outlet port and its inclined surfaces rise towards the inlet port.
Such a covering of the upper slot can be used in clarification installations with submerged deposition chambers, not only in peripheral passage installations like the one just described, but also in clarification installations with arranged deposition chambers. diametrically.
Stops of this kind are already known in clarification plants having a deposit chamber open towards the upper surface of the water, but then they are arranged on the slot leading to the sludge settling chamber and have therefore following a completely different purpose, namely to prevent passage through the decantation chamber.
The drawing appended to this specification shows by way of example a device according to the invention, consisting of a settling well with an annular deposition chamber.
Fig.I is a sectional elevation through a-h I of Fig.2.
Fig.2 is a diametrical plan section through the inlet and outlet ports.
Fig. 3 and 4 are sections through h-i and h-i 'of Fig. 2. on a larger scale.
In this drawing, a denotes the inlet orifice, b the outlet orifice, .2 the plunging guide wall opposite the inlet port and d the plunging guide wall opposite the outlet port, e the annular seals that limit the deposit chamber, f the deposit chamber the deposit chamber

sludge settling The closure member itself begins laterally at the plunging wall d and has the shape shown in Fig. I and in the sections of Figs. 3 and 4.
In this case, this member does not have the shape of a plate or of a bearing, but the shape of a rib covering the slot and designated by n. This shape can obviously vary at will. As can be seen from the sections of Fig. 3 e 4, the rib has two inclined slopes towards the underside so that the floating material, while rising, can of itself move away from the plunging wall d and s 'escape upward into the floating layer by heading towards the relatively higher ends of the closure member disposed above the slit.
Thanks to this device, no floating material can pass from the floating sludge chamber into the outlet opening, even if the thickness of the section of floating material inside the clarification plant was abnormally high. Measures have also been taken to ensure that the floating materials in rnontant do not remain suspended below the device and give rise to decompositions.
The shape and construction of the device can be varied at will.
