gas, a water-cooled fuel rake, formed of a tube extending through a diameter inside the cylindrical wall of the generator and provided with downwardly directed fuel teeth, a pair of inner tubes directed upward from the rake tube, an intermediate tube surrounding each of the inner tubes, an outer tube surrounding each of the intermediate tubes leaving an annular space between this tube and him, the inner and outer tubes being carried by the rotating cover, a duct or passage connecting the spaces between the intermediate and outer tubes,
a water supply device for one of the inner tubes and an overflow pipe starting from the other inner tube and discharging into the space between the intermediate and outer tubes which surround the inner tube considered. Preferably, the rotating cover and the sliding tubes are provided with hydraulic seals. The rake and its supports are balanced by counterweight, so that it is possible to vary between zero and the weight of this device plus that of the water it contains, the pressure it exerts on the fuel.
Water circulates through the rake and the hydraulic joints. The rotating cover carries a fuel loading tube that extends axially downwardly inside the generator. A hopper and a fuel feed valve and a fixed fuel supply duct are located above this rotating tube and a hydraulic seal is provided between the latter and the fixed duct.
The vertical tubes starting from the tubular rake carry a channel or trough supplied with water and the cooling water from this trough descends through a vertical tube towards the horizontal tube.

zontal of the rake, to go up from it by a second vertical tube.
,! In the attached drawings:
Fig. 1 is a partial vertical section of the lower part of a gasifier comprising a fuel rake according to the invention;
Fig. 2 is a partial vertical section of the upper part of the gasifier, this figure being an extension of Fig.l.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the gasifier.
The gasifier installation shown in these figures comprises a vertical cylindrical casing 1 internally lined with masonry 2 and supported at a suitable height above the ground by joists. A lower annular collector 4 is located under the masonry 2 and an upper annular collector 5 is carried by this masonry on which it is placed. The two collectors 4 and 5 are connected by a bundle of tubes 6, located near the inner surface of the masonry 2 or against it. The upper and lower manifolds 4, 5 and the tubes 6 constitute a boiler and are provided with the usual or desirable accessories of boilers, such as a safety valve, a water level indicator and the like. (not shown).
The contained space surrounded by the bundle of tubes constitutes the gas generator proper.
The annular inner wall 30 of the upper manifold 5 is extended upwards an appropriate distance above it and carries a gas outlet branch 31. The upper end of this extension

is closed by a plate or a cover 32 capable of being rotated by a worm gear 33, and mounted on ball or roller bearings 34. A hydraulic seal prevents any gas leakage through this, ..Bearing,
This hydraulic seal is conveniently produced by means of an annular rim 35 hanging from the cover 32 and immersing in the water of a channel or trough 36 carried by the upper extension of the inner wall 30 of the upper manifold.
The fuel rake comprises a tube with closed ends 37, placed horizontally in the gasifier and intended to rest on the surface of the fuel that the latter contains.
Two vertical tubes 38 and 38 'are fixed to this horizontal tube 37. It is possible, if desired, to give the lower face of this tube (and, if necessary, also to the upper face) a flattened shape, and we fix at this lower flat surface a rake formed of a plate 39 provided with teeth 40 directed downwards. Preferably, the rake plate 39 is fixed to the tube 37 by means of bolts 41 passing therethrough and provided with clamping nuts 42, the heads of these bolts having the form of knives or long teeth 43. , that is, the shanks of the knives or the long teeth constitute the bolts. Each of the vertical tubes 38, 38 ', starting from the rake tube 37, is surrounded by an intermediate tube 44 or 44' and each of the tubes 44 or 44 'is in turn contained in an outer tube from which it is concentrically spaced. .
The space 46 or 46 'between the outer tube 45 or 45' and the intermediate tube 44 or 44 'is closed at its lower end by a plug 47 and its upper end is open to the atmosphere. The vertical inner tube 38 or 38 ', starting from the rake tube 37, slides vertically in the intermediate tube.

diary 44 or 44 '. The upper ends of the two sliding inner tubes 38 and 38 'carry an annular channel or trough 48. The bottom of this trough 48 communicates with one of the inner tubes 38 by a fitting or passage 49 and the upper end of this tube The inner 38 is surrounded by a downwardly directed tube 50 which immerses in the space 46 between the intermediate and outer tubes 44 and 45 and thereby forms a hydraulic seal.
The upper end of the second inner tube 38 'communicates by a connector 51 with a tube 52 which descends and plunges into the space 46' between the intermediate and outer tubes 44 'and 45', surrounding this second tube 38 '. Water is introduced into the upper trough or trough 48 by means of a supply duct 53 opening into the latter, this water descending through the tube 38 towards the horizontal rake tube 37, rising from this. last by the tube 38 'ot discharging into the annular space 46' after having overflowed from the upper end of the tube 38 'and being lowered by the tube 52.
From the upper end of this space 46 'the water overflows through a conduit 54. into the hydraulic seal 36 of the rotating cover 32 and then flows from this hydraulic seal through a discharge conduit 55. The two annular spaces 46 and 46 'communicate with one another, at a point below the level of the overflow duct 54, by a tube or passage 56, so that the space an - nular 46 is filled with water up to the level of the overflow pipe 54.
A fuel feed hopper 57 and a feed valve 58 are centrally located above the upper trough or channel 48 and a fixed fuel feed duct 59 descends vertically and axially.

ment, through the rotating cover 32. The latter carries a descending duct 60 which rotates with it and fits the lower end of the fixed duct. The lower end of this rotary duct is supported by a stop 61 which also supports the intermediate and outer tubes 44, 44 45 and 45 'and which is itself suspended from the rotary cover 32.
The seal between the fixed and rotating parts of the fuel supply duct is a hydraulic seal. This seal is preferably formed by an annular wall 62, carried by the rotating duct and surrounding an annular wall 63 carried by the fixed duct 60, the space between these walls 62 and 63 and the rotating duct 60 communicating with the passage 56 which puts in communication the annular spaces 46 and 46 'surrounding the interior vertical tubes: 38, 38' of the device, of, suspension of the rake. The upper ends of the two tubes 38, 38 'are connected to the counterweights 64 by means of chains or the like 65, which pass over pulleys 66 suitably arranged, so that Imposition of the rake can be changed vertically in the gasifier.
The rotation of the rotating cover 32 rotates the entire rake system, with the tubes 38, 38 'and the upper trough or channel 48.
Metal brushes or similar members can be provided, carried by the rake tube, with a view to sweeping the vertical pipes of the boiler, as well as similar brushes intended to sweep the upper parts of the casing of the gasifier.
