 fourneau.
 EMI1.2

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 furnace.
 EMI1.2
 The present invention relates to a device for measuring the characteristics of a gas in a blast furnace, in particular in the space situated above the load of the furnace.

  In a blast furnace in operation, the space between the top and the upper surface of the charge is filled with a gas mixture charged with dust. The gas mixture is essentially composed of the combustion gases of the coke of the charge and of gas coming from. The reduction of iron ores. This gas mixture is continuously extracted by Le gueulard; It is constantly in motion and the dust coming from the stuffed matter, namely coke and iron ores, is thus kept in suspension in the gas mixture.

  The temperature and composition of this gas mixture depend on the quality of the blast furnace market; Their measurement therefore makes it possible to appreciate the quality of this market. The parameters are commonly measured in the gas exhaust pipe.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   It is however interesting to know as precisely as possible the distribution of the temperature and of the composition of this gas in the aforementioned space. In particular, knowledge of this distribution in the vicinity of the upper surface of the charge; makes it possible to appreciate the homogeneity of the operation of the blast furnace.

   Devices are already known such as tubes, possibly bends, introduced into said space and by means of which it is possible to take gas samples at different points within a radius of a horizontal section of the blast furnace. Such tubes do not allow these samples to be taken at different levels in the furnace; furthermore, they are not immune to the disruptive influence of the blast furnace and the walls of the blast furnace.

  The object of the present invention is to propose a device for taking gas from a blast furnace which does not have the above-mentioned drawbacks.

  The device of the invention makes it possible to take gas samples and gas temperature measurements, not only at any point on a radius, but also at any level located between the device and the upper surface of the load.

  According to the present invention, a device for measuring the characteristics of a gas in a blast furnace, which comprises a tubular element, has in the space located above the load of the blast furnace, said tubular element being connected by one end. Å has an orifice made in the wall of said blast furnace, is characterized in that it comprises a flexible hose Lodges in said tubular element and being able to slide freely therein, in that said flexible hose is provided with at least one piece ballast disposed in the vicinity of its free end inside said space, and in that said free end of the flexible hose is equipped with means for measuring the temperature of the gas present in said space, as well as means for sampling a sample of said gas.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

  According to the invention, the means for measuring the temperature of said gas comprise a thermocouple, at least the extremity of which exits from the free end of said flexible pipe and which is connected to a measuring device by means housed inside said pipe. flexible.

  The end of said flexible pipe is advantageously provided with means for protecting the thermocouple, such as a coaxial sleeve surrounding the thermocouple. This sleeve prevents the thermocouple from being destroyed by the materials in the oven which fall into the blast furnace; it also protects the thermocouple against any disturbing influence which could distort the measurement of the gas temperature, such as an influence exerted by the walls of the blast furnace or by the tubular element
 EMI3.1
 cited above. Also according to the invention, the means for taking a sample of said gas comprise a socket mounted at the free end of said flexible pipe and connected to an apparatus for analyzing the composition of said gas, by means housed inside. of said flexible pipe.

  According to a particular implementation of the invention, said ballast pieces consist of rings threaded onto said flexible pipe. These rings have a profile, for example conical, such that they can be easily removed.

  It is also interesting that the device of the invention comprises means for blowing gas under pressure against the current in said flexible pipe, preferably automatically and at predetermined time intervals, in order to prevent or suppress the clogging of said flexible pipe by the dust present in the blast furnace.

  Still within the framework of the invention, said tubular element is advantageously arranged radially in said space situated above the charge of the blast furnace; Said tubular element can also slide in a radial direction, so as to allow the execution

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 tion of measurements at different points within a radius of a section of the blast furnace.

  Other interesting features of the device of the invention will appear on reading the description which follows, given solely by way of example. This description relates to a particular implementation of the invention, which is illustrated schematically in the attached single figure.

  In this figure, there is shown a tubular element 1 disposed radially in the space located above the load 2 of a blast furnace, not shown. In the tubular element 1 is housed a flexible pipe 3 which can slide inside thereof and which is
 EMI4.1
 connects, in the direction of arrow 4, to measuring devices not shown. The free end of the flexible pipe 3 is provided with ballasting parts 5, in the form of rings threaded onto the flexible pipe 3, which force this free end to orient vertically downwards, that is to say in the direction load 2.

  At the end of the pipe 3 is mounted a scupper 6 in which there is an axial passage having two sections of different section. The section with the largest section is immediately available at the outlet of the flexible pipe 3; the side wall of this section is pierced with orifices 7 through which said passage communicates with the surrounding atmosphere. On this socket 6 is mounted a bead 8 also provided with an axial passage which is located in the extension of the section of small section of the passage of the socket 6.

  At the extremity of this pearl 8, there is provided a sleeve 9, inside which is housed a thermocouple 10. This thermocouple is connected by conductors 11 housed in the flexible pipe 3, to a temperature measuring device. , not shown The flexible hose 3 sliding makes it possible to place the thermocouple 10 and the sleeve 6 at any point of a vertical line, above the load 2. If the tubular element 1 is itself sliding, the sleeve

 6 and The thermocouple 10 can describe a radial plane of the blast furnace.

  The thermocouple 10 makes it possible to precisely measure the temperature of the gas at each of these points, while the socket 6 makes it possible to take a sample of gas at these various points.

  It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the device which has just been described and illustrated. Those skilled in the art can imagine many variations within the scope of the following claims.
