A cet effet elle consiste à leur faire comprendre, pour chaque ensemble piston-cylindre;

Elle coneiste, en outre de cespositions prin- cipales, en certaines autres dispositions particulières qui s'utilisent de préférence en même temps, et, afin de faire bien comprendre de quelle manière elle peut être ré- alisés, elle sera décrite plus en détail ci-après dans son application aux moteurs à explosion, en référence aux des- sins annexés dans lesquels ;
Fig. 3 est une vue en coupe axiale, partielle @ d'une autre forme d'exécution;
fig.

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

TWO STROKE ENGINE IMPROVEMENTS.
The invention relates to engines and relates in particular to engines operating according to the principle of the two-stroke cycle.
Its main purpose is to establish them so as to obtain at the same time a better filling of the fluid at all operating speeds and especially at high speeds and not there a better efficiency, a practically perfect balance and a functioning. improved compared to engines of this type offered so far,
To this end it consists in making them understand, for each piston-cylinder assembly;
, and at the same time that a piston connected to an elbow forming the motor shaft, an ohe- setting simultaneously animated by reciprocating movements and such that the piston approaching the end of its internal stroke, the said sleeve discovers on the one hand, at or near one end of the cylinder space, inlet openings for a pre-compressed working fluid and, on the other hand, at or near the other end of the orifices
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
evacuation to combustion residues formed during a previous motorized race.
Bile also consists in arranging the organs in an arrangement such that the reciprocating movements of the piston and of the jacket are executed in concordance in affixed directions and in addition to providing a pump mechanism with displacements synchronized with those of the jacket and specific to pressurize the inlet fluid for the next drive stroke under suitable pressure.
It also consists in making the pump piston and the distributor sleeve integral with one another, the assembly being controlled by a connecting rod system directly from the motor shaft.
It consists, in addition to these main positions, in certain other special arrangements which are preferably used at the same time, and, in order to make it clear how it can be achieved, it will be described in more detail below. -after in its application to internal combustion engines, with reference to the appended drawings in which;
Fig. 1 schematically shows a cutout, a first embodiment,
Fig. 3 is an axial sectional view, partial @ of another embodiment;
fig. 3 is a view, partially in section, of the motor of FIG. 2, at 90 from the plane of this figure and the organs occupying other positions,
Referring to fig. l = the engine comprises, at the same time as a closed casing 1 in which the elbow shaft 2 is journalled, a cylinder body 3 joined to this casing by any suitable means and for example bolted to it , this cylinder body 3 being furnished with a movable ohe- set 4, which could equally well be replaced by one or more spools or the equivalent internally to which moves an assembled piston 5, as well as re-

presented, by a connecting rod 6 to the crank pin 7 of the elbow 2.
- The sleeve 4 - or its equivalent - is also assembled, preferably on either side of the connecting rod 6, by slatted connecting rods 8 to crank pins 9 of the elbow shaft 2, these crankpins being offset by an angle #, but preferably at an angle of 180 + with respect to the crankpin 7, the angle # having a value of 12 to 15 degreese The sleeve 4 or equivalent - is drilled on the one hand with a series of lights such as 10, provided in the vicinity of its inner end, serving for 1 inlet, and on the other hand a series of ports such as 11, provided in the vicinity of its outer end and serving for the exhaust.
To these openings 10 and 11 correspond, peroées in the body of cylinder 3, on the one hand a series of lights 12 communicating with an intake space 13 and, on the other hand, a series of ports 14 communicating with pass-throughs. ges 15 leading to exhaust 16,
The cylinder head 17 closing the cylinder body 3, preferably comprises a guide 18 for the end of the liner 4 and suitable sealing members 19 housed in the grooves of the extension 20.
Advantageously, the organization of the intake space 13 is such that the gases are conducted to the openings' 10 so as to penetrate tangentially into the cylinder, and ¯ is provided. in. in addition to a ring such as 21 clean, being manned from the outside by means of the lever 22 with a ball joint movement, to more or less close the orifices 12 for the purpose of adjusting the intake * The space 13 communicates, as can be seen, with the crankcase of the engine and, on the other hand, through the port 23 provided with a valve or check valve 84. with the pipe 25 of a carburetor or other source of motor fluid.
And either we are content to arrange things as it has just been said, or else and better, as
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
show FIGS. 2 and 3, the space 13 Mud 14 is formed in the form of a pump cylinder 26 and one forms or relates to the internal end of the sleeve 4, an annular member 27 fitting into the cylinder and provided with an element of etanoheity 28.
And in both cases, an engine is thus obtained, the general operation of which is as follows: The piston being assumed to occupy the position shown in FIG. 3 and completing its upward stroke, a suitable combustible fluid coming from the conduit 25, enters the intake space 13 and passes from the, by suction, or into the housing 1 in the case of FIG. 1 - either in the pump cylinder shaft 26 in the case of figures 2 and 3 until the moment when the piston 5 has reached its upper dead center and begins its downward stroke *, accomplishing this stroke in the case of fig.
the- it compresses in the casing 1 the fluid previously sucked there or else those of Figures 2 and 3 - by the connection of the elbow 2 and the liner 4, the piston 27 compresses in the space 26 and 13 the fluid sucked there previously until the moment or, the piston 5 approaching its bottom dead center, and the sleeve 4 having:
displaced by the solicitation of its connections discover, at the lower part of the cylinder body, through the slots 10, the intake orifices 12, and, at the upper part, through the slots 11, the orifices of exhaust 14 leading to exhaust 16 through passages 15,
Therefore, on the one hand, the combustion products occupying the cylinder space at reduced pressure due to the previous drive stroke, will exit through these ports, orifices and passages 11, 14,
15 and 16 and on the other hand the compressed working fluid occupying under pressure the casing 1 and the space 13 - case of figure 1 .--- or the spaces 15 and 26 = - not of figures 2 and 2 - - enters the cylinder through the orifices and slots - - 12 and 10 in ba-
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
placing the said combustion products in front of it and completely filling the displacement During this time the bent shaft having prolonged its rotation2 brought the piston 5 back in its upward stroke and simultaneously moved the sleeve 4 by reforming the openings or passages 12 and 14.
The piston 5, completing its upward stroke, compresses the motor fluid held therein inside the cylinder and by means of a spark plug such as 271 or any other suitable ignition device the operation of which is suitably regulated in time at the proximity to the top dead center of piston 5, causes ignition of the working fluid by causing the piston to perform its downward or driving stroke, the previously described phenomena then repeating themselves periodically $
Although the arrangement according to Figures 2 and 3 is in all respects preferable in that, in particular,
it avoids forming of the housing 1 a compression chamber and allows to adjust as desired or at least aooroitre very substantially the compression ratio of the intake fluid, it is not, as it emerges clearly from what precedes, by no means essential to the realization of a two-stroke engine with effective sweeping and perfect filling of the displacement with a fresh mixture of combustions.
Although it is also by no means essential to place the crankpins respectively controlling the connecting rods of the piston 5 and of the sleeve 4 in a relative position close to 180), it is clear that such an arrangement is advantageous and that 1 The engine and distribution assembly and the associated connections thus produced ensures practically perfect balancing, at least as complete as in the best four-cylinder engines operating according to the four-stroke cycle, currently performed.
As it goes without saying and as we have, moreover,
