SUSPENSION ELASTIQUE COMPENSEE POUR CYCLES ET VEHICULES
DIVERS

ELASTIC COMPENSIONED SUSPENSION FOR CYCLES AND VEHICLES
VARIOUS
The present invention relates to a compensated elastic suspension for cycles, bicycles and motorcycles and various vehicles.
It consists in placing between the frame of the cycle or vehicle and the wheels a system of antagonistic springs compressed against each other and adjusted so that the weight of the cycle and of the rider are suspended between these systems of opposed springs; any acciaent of the road having the effect of raising or lowering the wheels, causes one or the other of the springs to yield, the elasticity of which is regulated by the tension of the opposing springs, of @

so that the wheel alone rises or falls, but is returned to its original position without being able to exceed it, by the elasticity of the springs as soon as the obstacle has passed.
These springs can be any, steel, rubber or aero or hydro-dynamic action, they are arranged to act on the wheels either by means of levers, slides, ball joints etc ... appropriate to the particular cases considered.
This suspension is applicable both to the front and to the rear of any cycle, motorcycle or various vehicle.
By way of example and as one of the applications of this principle, the accompanying drawings have been shown:
Figure 1, the schematic elevational view of a front wheel suspension.
Figure 2, the schematic elevational view of a rear wheel suspension.
In this exemplary embodiment, the ends of the fork of the bicycle receive an articulation axis 0 around which two levers b can oscillate, each placed on either side of the wheel and each corresponding to one of the fork arm. The axis 0 can be mounted in an intermediate piece to which the ends of the fork are rigidly fixed, which makes it possible in particular to mount the present suspension on existing bicycles without having to modify the conventional shape. ends of the fork. At one of their ends, the levers b receive the axis 0 'of the wheel; on the other, they receive the attachment f of an elastic device interposed for each side between the lever b and the frame.
These elastic devices consist of a slide g interposed between two coil springs m and n, this assembly being housed in a cylinder d, The coupling
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The beam is connected by the rod ± to the attachment f and the cylinder d is fixed to the frame by any suitable means, for example by means of a collar h and a joint c.
Under these conditions, any obstacle having the effect of lifting the wheel causes the slide to move in direction fl by compressing the spring m. When the obstacle has disappeared, the spring m will relax and return to its position. first position without exceeding it, thanks to the pressure of the spring n.
If, on the contrary, the wheel touches a hollow, the slider g will be moved in direction f2 compressing the spring n, but as soon as the hollow has passed the spring n will relax to return to its original position without exceeding it, thanks to to the action of the spring m.
The rear suspension device shown in Figure 2 is identical. The frame is articulated at 01 on suspension levers b1. These carry the axis O'1 of the wheel at their rear end. At their front end they receive the attachment fl of the corresponding elastic device. Each of these has a slide @ u -interposed between the two re @ sorts m1 and nl; the cylinders containing the slides and their springs are mounted on the frame by means of a joint e. These devices have the advantage of reducing not only the vibrations due to unevenness of the road, but that due to the rebounding action of the tires.
It should be noted that the effect of the interposed elastic device can be further improved by combining it with a damper and in particular with a friction damper.
