"DETENDEUR"
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"REGULATOR"
The present invention relates to a regulator, that is to say an apparatus capable of receiving a fluid compressed at a certain pressure called “upstream pressure” and of delivering this fluid at a constant lower pressure called “ava @ pressure”.
This apparatus essentially comprises a hollow piston subjected externally to the downstream pressure and the interior of which communicates permanently with the downstream pressure pipe by a small internal tube and with the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
upstream duct by corresponding lateral openings, for certain positions of the piston, with other lights formed in the wall of the cylinder surrounding the piston; this piston is, on the other hand, subjected to the action of two opposing springs with adjustable tension from the outside.
One embodiment of a regulator according to the invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig, 1 is a sectional elevation of the regulator.
Fig, 2 is a plan section of the body of the regulator alone.
Fig. 3 a section in line with the ports of the cylinder and the piston.
Fig. 4 a section along the line IV-IV of FIG. 1.
Figs. 5 and 6 are views in elevation and in section respectively of an adjusting locknut of the apparatus.
As can be seen in FIG. 1, the apparatus comprises a body 1 which comprises at its upper part a flange 7 fixed by bolts to a flange 8 with the interposition of a plastic seal 9.
The flange 8 has a threaded seat 10, receiving a cap 11 against which a lock nut 12 can be tightened, with the interposition of sealing washers, iron and rubber, 13 and 14.
In the body 1 is fixed a cylinder 3 which contains a hollow sliding piston 2. This cylinder 3 has
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
towards the upstream pipe, slots 4 and the piston 2, the interior of which is in permanent relation to the downstream side, also has slots 5, which are likely to coincide more or less with slots 4.
A yoke 15 is screwed to the upper part of the piston 2, terminated by a ring 16 which thus follows the movements of the piston. The cap 11 carries a pin 17, terminated at its lower part by a ring 18 suitably pinned.
Between the rings 16 and 18 is interposed a spring 19; between the ring 16 and the bottom of the cap 11 is housed a spring 20. The piston 2 is held in suspension by these two springs, working in compression, they balance the own weight of the piston, while allowing it limited movements. .
@
A small duct 21 is provided along the body 1, communicating the space located at the upper part of the piston 2, with the downstream duct 6, thus avoiding any overpressure, in the event of fluid leaking through the periphery of the piston. If small leaks occur, they are thus, even when starting up, without any action on the downstream pressure.
A tube 22 fixed in the hollow piston 2 by a threaded ring 23, allows the pressure to be exerted on the inner section of the piston at B, before the downstream pressure can be exerted at D on its outer section.
The downstream pressure on the upper part D of the piston 2 automatically constitutes the resistance which would be applied by a counterweight lever or a
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
strong external spring, in the case of open air operation.
By screwing or unscrewing the cap 11 more or less, the position of the piston 2 can be varied at will, so as to obtain the desired downstream pressure.
When the position of the cap 11 is thus fixed, the locknut 12 is raised, which is tightened completely.
If the fluid pressure rises in B, the piston 2 rises, obstructing the ports 4-5 somewhat, thus admitting less fluid. This contributes, with the spring 20, which coaxes, and with the increase in pressure on the upper part D of the piston, to lower it and bring it back to its equilibrium position,
If the pressure decreases in B, the piston 2 descends uncovering the ports 4-5, thus admitting more fluid, 4 This action contributes, with the spring 19, which compri @ e, and with the decrease in pressure on the upper section D of the piston, to bring it up to its equilibrium position.
The proper functioning of the expansion members is thus obtained, in a closed vessel with complete sealing, whatever the pressure of the fluid; steam or compressed air, without increased friction for the moving parts.
The cost price of this device is moderate since all of its components can be made cylindrical, eliminating the external balancing components, springs or counterweight levers, which are very expensive, making it a very simple and compact device.
