compose à la manière ordinaire, d'une succession alternée de maillons, extérieurs et de maillons intérieurs, mais alors que le Egaillons extérieurs sont constitués chacun par deux flasques 1 reliéesentre elle par lesaxes d'arti- culation des caillons voisins, les maillons intérieurs sont constitués par un certain nombre de mailles 2 (ce nombre dé- pendant de la largeur à donner à la chaîne), appliquées les unes contre les autres et reliées entre elles par un coussi.. netcylindrique 3, en acier cémenté ettrempé;

High speed transmission chain
The present invention relates to a transmission chain which is particularly suitable for industrial applications (automotive industry, various machine tools, etc.) in which high speed transmission chains are used.
The transmission chain which is the subject of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an element of the chain.
Figure 2 and Figure 3 are respectively sectional views taken along lines AA and BB of Figure 1.
The chain which is the subject of the invention is

composed in the ordinary way, of an alternating succession of links, outer and inner, but while the outer Egaillons are each made up of two flanges 1 linked together by the articulation axes of the neighboring blocks, the inner links are made up of a certain number of stitches 2 (this number depends on the width to be given to the chain), applied one against the other and connected to each other by a coussi .. netcylindrique 3, in case-hardened and tempered steel;
the articulation on the neighboring links is effected by means of a rivet 4, also case-hardened and tempered, connecting the two flanges of the outer link between them and passing, without play, inside the bearing 3 of the inner link; finally, the mail .. are internal Ions 2 shaped so as to receive, at 5, a tooth of the pinion. These inner links could moreover single be constituted by a part of the same profile as that formed by the assembly of the links 2.
By this means, a transmission chain is produced which does not include rollers, which eliminates its serious drawbacks; We know, in fact, that the accident which occurs most frequently in chains of this nature consists in the breaking of the rollers, and that, moreover, the roller chains are subjected, owing to their whipping, to lateral forces which result in the jamming of the inner links on the outer links.
While in the roller chain, the chain is guided by the inner links, which tends to apply them against the outer links and to cause the seizure referred to above, in the chain, object of the invention, this guidance is made by the outer links and the lateral forces liable to

to be received by the chain are transmitted only to the rivet.
The chain, object of the invention, of which every other link is made in the manner of a block chain link, however, compared to the block chain, has the advantage of not requiring the removal of a tooth on two of the pinion; it also offers all the advantages of the roller chain without having the disadvantages; it is lighter, at equal power, than the roller chain, very elastic, and can be replaced instantly on any pinion, for a roller chain of the same pitch.
It finds its application in particular in high speed transmissions, that is to say having speeds of the order of 10 meters per second.
