<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Gear change device".
The present invention relates to a gear changing device.
Its purpose is to make it possible to continuously vary the relative speed of two shafts situated in the extension of one another.
For this purpose, a gear wedged on one of the shafts attaches to the gear wedged on the other by means of a satellite gear wedged on a shaft which occupies any position with respect to the axis. of the other two. On the satellite pinion shaft is also wedged a worm wheel driven by a worm whose inclination of the thread (s)
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Lets is such that the wheel and its screw constitute an irreversible device for transmitting movement. this' worm is ordered:
either by means of a gear wedged on its shaft and meshing with another idle turn on one of the two main shafts and capable of being made integral with the aid of a clutch, or by a movement given by an electric motor, a centrifugal regulator or the like or by an equivalent device.
The accompanying drawing shows by way of non-limiting example one embodiment of the gear change device according to the present invention.
In this device, 1 is a motor shaft journaled in a frame 2 and bearing wedged on its end ..! a bevel gear 3 meshing with a planet gear 4 fixed on its shaft 5, which is journaled in the frame 2. The satellite gear 4 engages the gear 6 which is fixed on the driven shaft 7 also journaled in frame 2 ,.
This part of the device therefore constitutes a differential in which, the gears 3, 4 and 6 having the same number of teeth, the angular speed of the shaft 7 is equal to the sum of the angular speed of the gear 4 around its axis 5 and the angular speed of the latter around the common axis of shafts 1 and 7.
If we therefore impart a rotation to the shaft 1, the shaft 7 being kept stationary, the gear 4 will be driven by the gear 3 and will roll on the gear 6 while rotating the gearbox, dre 2 around shafts 1 and 7. If at a given moment, the speed of rotation of the planetary gear 4 around its axis 5 is reduced, the speed of the latter around the axis of the arms 1 and 7 will increase and cause in its movement the driven shaft xxxxx 7. By decreasing the speed of the satel-
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
lite 4 down to zero, it is clear that the speed of the drive shaft 7 will become equal to that of the drive shaft 1.
It follows from the foregoing that any reduction in the speed of the satellite pinion 4 around its axis / causes a corresponding increase in the speed of the driven shaft 7.
According to the present invention, a worm wheel 8 is wedged on the satellite shaft 5 and driven by a worm 9. The shaft 10 of this worm 9 is journaled in the frame 2 and carries, wedged on its end, a gear 11 which meshes with the gear 12 rotating idle on the driven shaft 7 but capable of being made integral with it by a clutch 13.
The ratios between the number of teeth of the gears 11 and 12 and between the via 9 and its wheel 8 are such that the ratio between the speeds of the satellite shaft 5 and the driven shaft 7 is the marl, that we consider them connected by gears 4 - and 6 or by 'wheel 8, screw 9 and gears 11 and 12.
Assuming, the clutch 13 securing the gear 12 to the driven shaft 7, if the motor shaft 1 rotates at a constant speed, as mentioned above, the planet gear 4 will rotate around its axis 5 and around the axis -common of the motor shafts:; 1 and driven 7, in turn driving the frame 2 and the amber 10 of the worm 9, forcing the gear 11 to roll while taking support on thus the gear 12, which is assumed to be stationary, and thus communicating a rotational movement to the worm 9 which will allow the wheel 8 to rotate at the speed of the planet gear 4.
This established, if the clutch 13 is slightly open so as to allow the gear 12 to turn very slightly on the shaft 7; the force which forced the gear 11 to rotate decreases, the gear 11 and the worm 9 decrease in speed la as well as the wheel of the screw 8 and the satellite pinion 4,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the result of which is to increase the speed of the frame 2 and to drag the shaft 7 at a speed equal to that of which the planet gear 4 has decreased around its axis 5.
If at this moment the gear 12 is again made integral with the shaft 7 by the clutch 13, the speed obtained from the shaft 7 will be maintained because the gear 11, driven at the same speed as the shaft 7 will only allow the satellite gear *, a speed equal to its initial speed minus the speed of the driven shaft 7. It follows, therefore, that we let drift more or less, or continuously, the gear 13 on the axis 7, it is possible to obtain for the shaft 7 a greater or lesser speed or else an increasing speed varying continuously.
Conversely, by making the gear 13 drift in the opposite direction to the movement of the shaft 7 / a decreasing speed could be obtained.
It should be noted that the device of the present invention has the advantage of requiring only infinitely small displacements of the gear 12 relative to the shaft 7, since these displacements cannot exceed the play existing between the toothed wheels of the device *
It goes without saying that the device of the .; The present invention can be achieved with any size gears.
It should be noted that the device of the present invention can be successfully applied in any mechanical assembly where it is necessary to be able to vary the speed, so that its field of application extends. to all areas of technology.
It is understood that the present invention is in no way limited to its embodiment described and shown, the latter being able to be modified in its construction details without departing from the principle of the present invention.
