<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
Pendant cette phase les actions combinées de la force centrifuge et des vibrations ont le résultat suivant : . Les vibrations donnent ,au gravier et aux particules de différentes grosseurs la possibilité de prendre les positions relatives voulues pour une bonne répar- tition dans toute la section du tuyau, même au moment où l'eau en excès s'est déjà séparée en grande partie du béton et où celui-ci, sans les vibrations, aurait déjà une consistance telle que tout déplacement rela- tif du gravier et des particules serait impossible, quoi- que le béton n'ait pas encore atteint sa compacité la plus élevée;
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
La garniture peut être établie de manière que, lors- qu'on la sépare du moule avec le tuyau, elle conserve la forme d'un cylindre qu'on peut détacher du tuyau en le repliant peu à peu, la séparation ayant lieu suivant une génératrice ou une ligne incurvée qui chemine sur le pourtour du tuyau au fur et à mesure que la séparation devient de plus on plue compiète, de cette facon la 8(- paration a lieu sans détérioration du tuyau, contraire- ment à ce qui arriverait s'il fallait séparer la garni- ture du tuyau fraîchement moulé non plus suivant une ligne, mais bien suivant une surface importante;
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

Process for manufacturing hollow bodies in agglomerated material and machine for its implementation.
The invention comprises a method of manufacturing hollow bodies in agglomerated material, for example concrete, reinforced or not, and a machine for carrying out the method.
The manufacture of hollow bodies in agglomerated material
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
by the action of centrifugal force is known; in general, however, it has the drawback that the hollow bodies must remain in their molds for a few days until the material has set sufficiently so that they can be unmolded; it is therefore necessary to have a large number of mussels in service.
This drawback is eliminated in the present process, while obtaining hollow bodies of good quality; -To do this, the material which will form them is subjected to the action of centrifugal force, as well as to a draining of the liquid originally contained in excess in this material and the conditions under which the spinning a. held during the. manufacture of one and the same body.
For dewatering, it is possible first of all to expel a large part of the excess liquid from inside the body being formed, then forcing this part of the liquid to pass through the body being formed from the inside to the body. outside and then leave it permanently.
A mold can be used with a view to dewatering, one wall of which allows the liquid to escape, as well as a packing placed in the mold and such that the liquid can pass through it, but not the other constituents of the agglomerated material. .
The lining can be arranged so that it can be separated from the mold and be used for demolding the hollow body. If necessary, it is established in such a way that, by itself, it cannot flex longitudinally when it has the tubular shape and it has transverse flexibility for
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
that it can be separated little by little from the body when its tubular form is removed from it, or else so that its transverse section cannot vary appreciably when it is separated from the mold with the body.
This lining can be formed from a fabric.
The mold can be given a second wall impermeable to liquid and forming with the first a closed space receiving the liquid which escapes from the body being formed and in that the exit of the liquid from the mold can be adjusted as desired. Closed space.
The hollow bodies being formed can advantageously also be subjected to the action of vibrations, the frequency or amplitude of which can be varied, or both during the manufacture of one and the same body.
It is possible to accelerate the setting of the material by impregnating it by centrifugal force with one or more substances increasing the speed of setting.
The material may be impregnated by centrifugal force with at least one substance which produces a caulking of the pores of the body.
The machine for carrying out the process is characterized by a rotating mold, means allowing this mold to be rotated, the speed of which can vary, and means allowing the liquid originally found in excess. in the matter of which the bodies will be made to come out of the mold, but op-

It may include a mold having a wall allowing the liquid to escape and a lining arranged in the mold and such that the liquid can
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
pass through it, but not the other constituents of the agglomerated material. The mold could comprise a second wall impermeable to the liquid and forming with the first a closed space receiving the liquid which escapes from the body being formed, as well as' means serving to adjust the exit of the liquid from the closed space at will and as a result of the body in formation.
If it is deemed useful, the machine further comprises means for imparting vibrations to the mold and, where appropriate, a device making it possible to vary either the frequency of the vibrations, their amplitude, or both.
This machine can have control units automatically giving rise at given times to variations in the rotational speed of the mold and to variations in the conditions in which the vibrations take place; they could also automatically give rise to the introduction into the mold of substances intended to cooperate with the material of which the hollow bodies will be made.
In order to better understand the explanations which follow, the appended drawing represents schematically an embodiment of the machine, given by way of simple example and used to manufacture pipes in an agglomerated material such as ordinary concrete. ., slag, etc.
Fig. 1 is a side view. fig. 2 is a cross section on a large scale along the line II-II of fig.l.
The mold 11 is divided longitudinally into two parts made of perforated sheet metal and connected to its two
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
ends by circular and removable raceways 10. It rests by its raceways on two pairs of rollers .12 carried two by two by a common shaft 13; one of the shafts 13 is actuated by an electric motor 14 thus producing the rotation of the mold 11 by friction between two of the rollers 12 and the raceways 10. Inside the mold is located a lining not shown, forming a filter, made for example of a fabric of jute, of cotton, established in such a way that in the presence of cement the water passes through it perceptibly only at a high number of turns 'of said mold; it is connected to the latter in a removable manner so that we can separate.
The shafts 13, the motor 14 are carried by a frame 19 having two vertical frames 15 along which horizontal cross members 16 can be moved vertically and then be secured in the desired position. Each of the cross members 16 carries two rollers 17 acting on the bearing tracks 10 to hold the mold 11 in place on the rollers 12. The horizontal distances of the shafts 12 and the horizontal distances of the rollers 17 can be adjusted according to the dimensions of the roller. mold, as in fig. 2 shows it in phantom.
The frame 19 is suspended at four points 20 and carries a casing 21 containing a device intended to produce longitudinal and transverse vibrations of this frame, for example by means of cams or eccentric weights + 21 rotating at high speed. The apparatus comprises parts allowing to vary
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
separately the frequency and amplitude of the vibrations produced.
This can be done, for example, as follows to implement the method using the above machine:
The mold 11 with its lining is placed on the rollers 12, the gays 17 are brought into contact with the raceways 10, a screen (not shown) is placed around the mold, intended to prevent the projection of water. who will escape.
The motor 14 and the vibratory apparatus 21 are then started, so that the mold rotates at a moderate speed and is subjected to vibrations of a given frequency and of an amplitude of 2 to 3 mm for example. The relatively fluid concrete is then introduced into this mold either by one or by both ends of the latter.
As has been said above, the lining of the mold is established so that in the presence of cement the water only perceptibly passes through it at a high number of turns. Under these conditions the concrete is applied by the action of centrifugal force against this lining and the mold, initially keeping the excess water that it contains, which facilitates the movement of the gravel and cement sand particles. , slag, as well as their good distribution. By slightly increasing the number of turns of the mold, the centrifugal force separates the excess water from the heavier particles and most of the water which cannot pass through the packing is obtained. returned to the inside of the pipe in formation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
During this phase the combined actions of centrifugal force and vibrations have the following result:. The vibrations give gravel and particles of different sizes the possibility of assuming the relative positions desired for good distribution throughout the section of the pipe, even when the excess water has already largely separated. concrete and where this, without the vibrations, would already have a consistency such that any relative movement of the gravel and particles would be impossible, although the concrete has not yet reached its highest compactness;
here on the contrary, the vibrations keep the gravel and the particles in motion, -si. although the centrifugal force (even weak) can then bring the various elements of the concrete into absolutely intimate and complete contact with each other, so that maximum compactness is obtained. On the other hand, if the water escaped to the outside during this first phase, the distribution of the concrete, its settlement and consequently the compactness of the pipe would be less good.
The vibratory apparatus is adjusted to give vibrations of much higher frequency and of a lower amplitude towards the end of this first phase of manufacture.
When the pipe has reached the desired compactness, the vibratory apparatus is stopped and the number of turns of the mold 11 is greatly increased for the second phase of manufacture. During this second phase the water, which had collected previously
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
dominate on the interior surface 'of the pipe, passes through the pores thereof under the action of the. greater centrifugal force, passes through the packing, which on the other hand prevents solid particles from escaping, and through the perforations of the mold it to be collected by the screen. It carries with it into the pores of the pipe the fine particles that it contains and which thus obstruct these pores, giving an excellent seal.
When the pipe is finished, the motor 14 is stopped, the rollers 17 are moved aside, the rolling tracks 10 are removed, the mold 11 is removed from the machine with the lining and the pipe to the place where it will end. take it, draw it up and separate it from the trim, as well as from the pipe to put it back in the machine and proceed with the manufacture of a second pipe.
Thanks to the combined treatment of centrifugal force, vibration and spinning, the first pipe has a consistency such that the packing can be removed without
EMI8.1
that it 14EEiD, as soon as it was born 4 the undr1L or 1 must complete do fairt, taken; its tightness is greater than that of similar pipes manufactured in another way.
It appears from the example of the process that the centrifugal force and the vibrations act simultaneously for a given period of time on the material, but that the periods during which they come into play are not necessarily the same.
If we use a perforated sheet or even very fine metal mesh mold, without any lining, we find that the permeability of the mold is too uneven in the first case and is too great. ';' in the second; the
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
pipe quality suffers.
The gasket is used here mainly to obtain a determined permeability of the filter, and possibly to hold the body after it has been removed from the mold, and incidentally to seal the mold or to prevent the material from adhering to the mold.
The above embodiment of the machine and the described embodiment of the method have been expressly given by way of example, therefore the peculiarities, the construction details may differ from those which have been given. been indicated without the process or machine -presenting them departing from the scope of the invention. Here are a few possible variations:
The vibrations to which the mold 11 is subjected can be transverse, longitudinal, angular; the last kind decreases the wear and tear of the machine; combined vibrations can also be used.
The filter insert may be any material other than fabric, provided it allows water to escape while preventing the outflow of the finest solid particles; it can be for example paper, another fibrous material which can be placed on a support such as a metallic fabric in the form of a slurry containing this material and a liquid, in a material impermeable by itself, in thin sheet, for example, having very narrow slits obtained by working the metal without removing the latter. The material of which it is made may be such that water cannot pass through it when the centrifugal force is low and only arrives when the latter is high.
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
The liner can be set up so that when it is separated from the mold with the pipe, it retains the shape of a cylinder which can be detached from the pipe by bending it back little by little, the separation taking place following a generator or a curved line which runs around the circumference of the pipe as the separation becomes more and more complete, in this way the 8 (- repair takes place without deterioration of the pipe, contrary to what would happen s 'the liner had to be separated from the freshly molded pipe no longer along a line, but over a large area;
such a result can be obtained by giving longitudinal and annular reinforcements to the lining, the latter being flexible so that it can be folded back. trim outward when it ceases to be maintained in the tubular form.
The liner could also be established in such a way that when placed upright with the resulting pipe, it opposes a deformation of the cross section of the latter, while not opposing a transverse deflection. .
When draining the superfluous water found in the concrete, it is possible to introduce into the mold, once the pipe has been formed, one or more liquids designed either to cause rapid hardening of the concrete, or to increase the tightness of the pipe.
This introduction can take place automatically at a time determined in advance of manufacture; one thus obtains an appreciable saving of manpower, a greater precision in the manufacture and often a considerable saving in the quantity of liquid employed: in intro
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
reducing the latter at a time determined in advance, for example after removing three quarters of the excess water contained in the concrete, a better result is obtained with a smaller quantity of liquid than with intro-; dropping excess liquid too early or too late.

Instead of using a screen to prevent the water coming out of the mold from being thrown away, we can give the latter a double wall, the water being collected in the space between the two walls, and s 'escaping from this space through an ad hoc opening; in this case it is possible to regulate the conditions under which the dewatering takes place not only by varying the speed of the mold, but also by adjusting the section of the exhaust opening.
The mold 11 may have a different arrangement from that indicated.
The vibrations could be transmitted directly to the mold, without the chassis being subjected to them.
The motor 14, carried by the frame 19, can be replaced by a motor independent of this frame.
The means for introducing the material into the mold may or may not be subjected to vibrations.
Means can be provided by which the variations in the rotational speed of the mold, the variations in the amplitude and frequency of the vibrations, the possible introduction of liquid producing a hardening, rapid or greater sealing of the mold. pipe take place automatically at given times during manufacture.

Manufactured hollow bodies may not be pipes. Their cross section may not be circular, it may be polygonal for example. They can be of an agglomerated material other than concrete.
CLAIMS.
1). Process for the manufacture of hollow bodies in agglomerated material, characterized in that the material which will form them is subjected to the action of centrifugal force, as well as to a draining of the liquid contained in excess in the origin in this material, and by the fact that we vary the conditions in which the dewatering takes place during the manufacture of one and the same body, in order to be able to unmold the hollow bodies as soon as they are completed while obtaining good quality hollow bodies.
