<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Portable device for receiving wireless transmitted waves.
The present invention relates to a portable apparatus for the reception of wireless transmitted waves characterized in particular by the fact that it can be used quite independently of any local conditions and is always ready for operation. For this purpose, the device is provided, first of all, with a service and charging circuit which allows the accumulator to be charged, whether the current available is direct or alternating current, without having to charge it. remove from the box. The apparatus is in the form of a cabinet in which the loudspeaker and parts of the frame are placed, and it can be operated from the outside without having to be opened.
As an antenna, a special coil is used, the peculiarity of which is that two or more circuits are provided, wound up separately from each other and arranged one beside or above the l. the other, the windings of which are in different winding planes. This coil -

The antenna is further characterized in that it can be swung out of the box-shaped apparatus and can then be rotated. Finally, the arrangement of the loudspeaker, with the resonance bottom and the resonance cover, the latter receiving at the same time the magnet boot, guarantees good reproduction.
The attached drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the apparatus.
Fig.l is a cross section of the device.
Fig. 2 shows the service and charging arrangement.
Fig. 3 shows the aerial coil raised.
Fig. 4 shows the switch seen from the side.
Fig. 5 is a top view of this switch.
The device box has a partition A for mounting the magnet boot B, to which a funnel-shaped boot B1 is usefully connected. The speaker membrane B2 is supported by spacers B3 against partition A, which at the same time serves as a resonance bottom and is closed to the outside by a resonance cover C. Around the loudspeaker is the coil-antenna shown in detail in figs.3-5. The coil is a multiple induction coil wound into the wall of the basket. The length of the various coils may be different or equal. The windings are separated from each other and are located in planes offset from each other, in two, three or four juxtaposed winding circuits.
The different winding circuits can, at will, be coupled, individually or all together, in parallel or in series as primary coil or primary winding, and the other windings in parallel or in series as secondary coil or secondary winding. . For this coupling, a special switch is provided which will be described in detail in what follows.
In figs. 3-5, the coil is provided with a winding

triple. One of the winding circuits would start at d. It then passes through the winding points e, f, g, h, i to return to point d. The incoming conductor and the return conductor of this winding circuit are connected to the contact pads of a switching device consisting of a plate m and a plate 1. The plate 1 is shown in fig.5. The conductor a is connected, according to fig. 5, to the pin n, and the return conductor b to the pin o. The other winding circuits are arranged in the same way. The winding circuit from.,!, Passes through 2, g, q, b. r to return to e. One of the conductors a 'is connected, as shown in fig.5, to the stud n'. while the conductor b 'is connected to o'.
The third winding begins on p. goes through f, q, h, r, d to return to p. The incoming conductor a "is, according to fig.5, connected to n". and the return conductor b "is connected to c". Above the plate 1, shown in fig. 5, is, according to fig. 3, a disc m provided with a rotating knob. This disc has springs -Si 's2, only one of which is visible in fig.3.
These springs cover, for a position of the plate S, the three pairs of opposite studs. In fig. 5, the springs s1 and s2 are drawn in two positions. In one of the positions, the spring s1 covers the pads n, n ', n "and the other spring s2 the pads o, o', o".
In the other position, on the other hand, one of the springs covers the pads ne and o and the other spring covers only the contacts n "and o '.
In the first case, the winding circuits are therefore coupled in parallel, while, in the second case, they are coupled in series, because the circuit goes from Avers.:2., From there through the spring to a ', from there to b ', from b' by the spring to a "and back to b".
The coil thus wound is rigidly arranged on a
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
plate t and is mounted with this plate in a ball joint u. The coil can therefore both rotate around its axis v and, according to FIG. 4, oscillate around the ball joint u, so that it can be folded back from the upper position of figs. 3 and 4. The coil can therefore be taken out of the box surrounding the apparatus and be folded back into this box. In the raised position it is connected to the switchgear (capacitor) by the clamping springs and, in the folded position, by the clamping springs y.
These springs x and y, as well as the articulation u, are mounted rigidly on the partition A. When the coil is raised, it can therefore be made to turn on itself in the direction of emission without having to rotate the box or the entire apparatus.
To allow the battery in the device to be charged, a special assembly is provided, shown in fig. 2. The assembly is established in such a way that, depending on the case, the accumulator can be charged by the direct current network as well as by the 110 or 220 volt alternating current network with the interposition of a current rectifier.
Behind the sockets Dl and D2 of the network, whatever is provided for a control device, for example a luminescence lamp E which, at the start of charging, is the only one connected to the network and allows the presence of current to be recognized. direct or alternating current. After inserting the plug into the socket D1. D2 of the high intensity current network, the luminescence lamp E lights up, in such a way that the two electrodes light up in the event of alternating current, and one electrode only in the event of direct current. The electrodes light up, for example, in the form of a cross and a ring.
In such an arrangement it is not only possible to recognize -
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
arise immediately if we are dealing with direct current or alternating current, but also if the polarity, in the case of direct current, is correct, because, if the polarity of the direct current connection is exact, the ring will not light up, but the cross. It is also possible, for convenience, to provide figures on the front panel of the apparatus, which completely eliminate any possibility of error in this respect. When the nature of the current or the correctness of the polarity has been observed, switch F.
In the position shown in fig. 2, accumulator G can be charged via the direct current network. Here is provided an ohmic resistance H known per se.
When charging takes place via the alternating current network, switch F is brought to the position indicated in dotted lines. For the rectification of the alternating current is provided a dry rectifier J. A transformer K belonging to this rectifier is constituted, on the primary side, by two in - bearings K1, K2 whose incoming conductors go to the junction terminals of a switch L. Coils K1 and K2 can be coupled in parallel or in series, so that the charge of the accumulator G can be done, for example, by a network of 110 or 220 volts by bringing the switch L to the suitable position . When the switch L occupies the position drawn in fig. 2, the windings K1 and K2 are coupled in parallel, which corresponds to connection to a 110 volt network.
In case of coupling of the windings K1 and K2 in series, the middle terminals of the switch L are electrically connected.
The assembly also includes an M ammeter having a measuring range of approximately 1 ampere. The ammeter M does not have to have a special scale and only has a line in the middle of the dial, which line indicates that when the needle of the instrument is at. about this line, the current
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
charge is 1/2 ampere. This ammeter is, in this, interposed in the low current circuit, namely: between the accumulator G, the charge rectifier J and the receiving device N. The ammeter M is constantly on and serves for perfect control. the correct operation of the charge rectifier J. Dry rectifiers have, as we know, a return current of about 3 milliamperes; The ammeter is therefore not, in the normal state, influenced by the return current.
If, after a certain period of use, the return current increases considerably, this circumstance manifests itself precisely on the ammeter.It is also possible to determine by means of this ammeter M which is constantly switched on, whether, for example, , we are dealing with an alternating voltage of 110 or 220 volts, because the luminescence lamp E, which has a voltage range of 110/220 volts, will cause the electrodes to light up at both voltages, and will not supply therefore no control about the importance of the voltage of the alternating current.
For service assembly, remove the plug from the current socket D1, D2 and actuate switch 0.
The service and load assembly can also be used or marketed as a separate device, and can invariably be connected, for example, to the dry load rectifier J.
