<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Elle consiste, mise à part cette disposition principale, en certaines,autres dispositions, qui s'utili- sent de préférence en même temps et dont il sera plus ex- plicitement parlé ci-âpres, notamment : en une deuxième disposition consistant à établir de manière telle.au moins certaines parties des têtes des bielles du genre en question qu'elles présentent une grande surface de radiation, par exemple qu'elles soient pourvues d'ailettes de refroidissement;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
On fait telles, lesdites oreilles, que, lorsque lesdits éléments à et b occupent relativement 1'un à l'au- tre les positions qu'ils doivent ooouper après assemblage, ou bien, et ainsi que représenté fig. 1 à 3 et 7 à 12, au moins une oreille de l'élément a se trouve juxta- posée à au moins une oreille de l'élément b de manière elle- même telle que lesdites oreilles juxtaposées puissent être traversées, au travers de perforations appropriées qu'on leur fait comporter, par une tige commune, par exemple une goupille e très légèrement conique, d'axe avantageusement parallèle à l'axe de la tête de bielle;
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Improvements made to connecting rods for pedestrian machines, in particular to connecting rods for explosion engines".
The invention relates to connecting rods for piston machines; and it concerns more particularly, because it is in their case that its application seems likely to offer the most interest, but not exclusively, among the organs of the type in question, those for explosion engines.
Its main purpose is to make it possible to establish the said connecting rods which are lighter at the same time as being as strong as those currently used ;.
It consists mainly, and at the same time in establishing the heads of the connecting rods of the kind in question in at least two elements, one of which is integral with the connecting rod body and the other constituting the cap - in having recourse, to connect between them.the two aforesaid elements, no longer to parts (bolts or the like) working in extension, but to parts working in shear (pins or the like).
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions which are preferably used at the same time and which will be discussed more explicitly below, in particular: in a second provision consisting in establishing such.at least certain parts of the heads of connecting rods of the kind in question that they have a large radiation surface, for example that they are provided with cooling fins;
and in a third arrangement, exclusively related to the case of multiple linkages constituted by a main link with secondary link articulated therein, consisting of said arrangement, to be provided, on the main link, for the articulation axis of the secondary connecting rod, in addition to the end bearing surfaces, at least one stop suitable for supporting said axis at an intermediate point and for preventing its bending, the secondary connecting rod head being suitably notched.
It relates more particularly to a certain mode of application, as well as certain embodiments, of said provisions; and it still relates more particularly, and this as new industrial products, to connecting rods of the type in question comprising application of the said provisions, to the special components specific to their establishment, to engines comprising similar connecting rods as well as to sets, fixed or mobile, in particular motor vehicles and aircraft, comprising similar engines.
And it can, in any event, be clearly understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawings, which supplement and drawings are, of course, given above all by way of indication.
Figs. 1, 2 and 3, of these drawings, show, respectively in elevation with part cut away, in lateral view
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
and in plan view, the head of a simple tubular body comprising the application of certain provisions of the invention.
Figs. 4, 5 and 6 show, likewise, the head of a connecting rod, also simple and with a tubular body, established according to a variant of the preceding one.
Figs, 7, 8 and 9 show, respectively in elevation, side view and section according to 9-9 fig. 7, the head of a master connecting rod with a double T body, for a V-shaped motor, established in accordance with the invention.
Finally, figs, 10, 11 and 12 show, respectively in elevation, in side view and in section according to 12-12 fig. 10, the head of a master connecting rod with a double T body, for a W-shaped motor, is also established in accordance with the invention.
According to the invention, and more particularly according to that of its modes of application, as well as those of the embodiments of. its various parts, to which it seems that preference should be given, proposing, for example, to establish a connecting rod for an internal combustion engine, the procedure is as follows, or de. analogous way.
As regards, first of all, the foot and the rod or body of the connecting rod, they are established in any suitable customary manner, for example so as to obtain a tubular or sectional connecting rod. in double T.
As regards, then, the head of the connecting rod, it is constituted, as is customary, in at least two semi-cylindrical elements, one of which is integral with the body of the connecting rod and the other b constitutes - cap, the two aforesaid elements being, well coated, made such that, when assembled by juxtaposition of their edges, they constitute, in the ordinary way, an eye having an internal bore suitable for receiving the halves -cushions c. must directly surround the crankshaft crankpin.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
But, instead of having recourse, to connect the two aforementioned elements to one another, to parts (bolts or the like) working in tension, one has recourse to parts working in shear (pins or the like). ) comparable to the axis of a hinge.
For this purpose, each of the elements a and b, and in the vicinity of each of their edges, are advantageously made to comprise ears d.
Said ears are made such that, when said elements a and b occupy relatively one to the other the positions which they must ooouper after assembly, or else, and as shown in FIG. 1 to 3 and 7 to 12, at least one ear of element a is located juxtaposed with at least one ear of element b itself such that said juxtaposed ears can be passed through, through perforations suitable that they are made to comprise, by a common rod, for example a very slightly conical pin e, of axis advantageously parallel to the axis of the big end;
or else, and as shown in fig. 4 to 6, at least one lug of element a is located opposite an lug of element b and is substantially in the same plane perpendicular to the axis of the connecting rod big end as the latter lug, this in such a way that said looking ears can be joined by at least one link f itself pierced at its two ends and connected to each of the ears (or to each of the groups of ears) to be assembled. by a rod, for example a pin e1, with an axis advantageously parallel to the axis of the connecting rod head, passing through appropriate perforations which are made to include in said prills.
Of course, according to the invention, the number of lugs carried by the elements a and b is advantageously multiplied as much as is deemed appropriate, so as to multiply the number of sections on the connecting rods.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
working with shear, therefore to increase the resistance of the assembly; Thus, on the heads of connecting rods represented by the drawings, up to nine parallel ears have been provided on certain elements.
The said ears are advantageously established in such a way, that they fit together exactly and without play, or else (fig. 1 to 3 and 7 to 12) one inside the other in the manner of the gonda of a hinge. , or (fig. 4 to 6) with the connecting links f.
The ears are provided either in the same number or in a different number, on the elements to be assembled, this is how, when the ears must fit into each other (fig. 1 to 3 and 7 to 12 ), one more ear is advantageously provided on one of the elements than on the other, whereas, when the ears are joined by links, the ears are advantageously provided in the same number on the two elements.
As a result, after having suitably joined together by the assembly rods the elements a and b and having immobilized said rods in place by matting, bending, screwing, twisting or the like, a connecting rod is obtained, the head of which can be established so $ present a large. light at the same time as great resistance and the tightening of which is assured in a certain and foolproof way.
And, or we are satisfied with. proceed as has just been said, or alternatively, and better still, resort is made to other arrangements, such as the following and which may, in certain cases, be used in isolation.
According to one of these arrangements, at least certain parts of the heads of the connecting rods of the kind in question are established in such a way that they have a large radiation surface.
For this, use is advantageously made of cooling fins g with which the external surface is provided.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
of the big end.
These fins are formed, either by taking them in the mass of the connecting rod head, or by making them attached, for example in metal at b, a coefficient of radiation and good thermal conductivity.
Said fins are advantageously arranged in such a way that they are directed in the direction of displacement of the connecting rod big end in the motor housing, that is to say in planes perpendicular to the axis (the head of connecting rod, and, in the case where one uses, for the assembly of the two elements of the big end, to the device described above, one advantageously arranges the fins in the extension of the lugs of 'assembly, which simplifies the machining of elements a and b.
@ of these multiple linkages constituted by a main connecting rod with articulated secondary connecting rod y, at least one stopper is provided on the main connecting rod for the articulation axis of the secondary connecting rod, in addition to the usual end bearing surfaces h of said axis 1 suitable for supporting said axis at an intermediate point and preventing its bending.
This stop 1 is established in such a way that the articulation axis is applied to it during the engine time of the cylinder corresponding to the secondary connecting rod in question, and, of course, the head of the secondary connecting rod is indented so that 'it has an opening allowing contact of the stopper with the pin for all the relative positions which the secondary connecting rod assumes, during operation, with respect to the main connecting rod.
As goes without saying, and as is moreover already clear from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to those of its application mode, nor to those of embodiments of its various parts having more particularly described; she kisses, on the contrary,
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
all variants.
