Dans la première, la houille à traiter n'est pas en contact aveo le fluide chauffant, et la transmission de la chaleur s'opère à travers une paroi;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

"Method and device for the distillation of fuels at low temperature".
We know the interest which attaches to the extraction of tars from fuels, before their combustion; many methods have been implemented to obtain this result.
These processes can be classified into two main categories:
In the first, the coal to be treated is not in contact with the heating fluid, and the heat transmission takes place through a wall;
In the second, the coal to be treated is through
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
dried by the heating fluid.
The present invention falls into the second category. The fuel to be treated, previously dried and brought to a temperature close to the softening point, is placed on a movable apron, permeable to fluids, for example, a mechanical chain grid,
It is known that the optimum temperature for obtaining low temperature distillation tars is between 3000 and 500; at the front and above the metal table, there is a distillation chamber, in which the fuel is brought to the optimum temperature above. This heating can be, for example, ensured by combustion , in the compartment, of any available fuel, gaseous, liquid or solid.
One of the characteristics of the invention consists in the possibility of heating the fuel to be distilled by the gas coming from the distillation, either by burning it, since it is combustible, or by bringing it to. a suitable temperature, for example, 700. Of course, the radiation from the walls of this distillation chamber participates in the heating of the raw fuel resting on the metal deck.
On the other hand, the links of the chain have a sufficient temperature, when they return to the front after a revolution, to contribute, but from below, to the heating of the. combustible. Furthermore, this heating has the effect of plugging the charcoal coming from the dryer, and thus preventing the sieving of fines through the screen.
- Another essential feature of the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
tion is that the gaseous products generated by the distillation are withdrawn under the layer of fuel, by oaissons in which a negative pressure is maintained in relation to the distillation chamber.
We are therefore in the presence of a layer of fuel heated from above, from below and in its mass, resting on a mobile apron permeable to gases, the gaseous products being withdrawn from below into oaissons.
These gaseous products are, in part, oondensable and will give distillation gases of high calorific value. These are the gases which can be used, as has already been said, for heating the fuel in the distillation chamber.
The heavy tars loaded with dust, withdrawn from the first condensing devices, are returned to the fuel in the distillation chamber; they contribute to the clogging of the fines, they distill again into the fuel layer in contact with the incipient light hydrocarbons, and the distillates are sucked into the lower chambers as has been explained.
Following the distillation compartment, there is another compartment which can be the combustion chamber of a boiler, or a semi-coke cooler-etouffoir; but under this compartment reigns the extension of the movable apron (that is to say the continuation of the chain grate), so that the passage of the fuel, from the first compartment to the second is done automatically, without intervention of outside. 1 / With such a device, we can:
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
a) or simply extract the primary tars .... res and essences, and burn the semi-coke and the gases.
Indeed, by the only movement of the movable apron, the semi-coke passes from one compartment to another at a temperature close to 5000 and it suffices to blow it in the air by oaissons placed under the movable apron. so that it ignites with the greatest ease.
As for the gases, they are sent to the second compartment or combustion chamber; where they participate jointly in the semicoke, in the heating of a steam generator; for example. A portion of the gases can moreover be used, as has been said, for heating the distillation compartment, by direct combustion. b) either extract, as before, the primary tars, burn the semi-coke in the combustion chamber, and do not return the collected gas into it, but on the contrary, place them in a gasometer for later industrial use or domestic.
In this case, the heating of the fuel in the distillation chamber can be ensured by a portion of the gases previously brought to a sufficient temperature in a regenerator, so that the gas produced is not mixed with other gases which would alter it. the wealth.
The regenerator, or gas heater, can be heated by any conventional means (gasifier gas, etc.,.) And in particular by the hot gases from the boiler or even part of the rich gas produced, the The location of the regenerator is chosen so as to minimize radiation losses. for example directly above the distillation chamber.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
c) or still extract the primary tar as it has just been indicated, store the rich gas in a gasometer ,.
as it has just been indicated, and to flesh out the semi-ooke to prevent its combustion, and to use ae solid fuel for further use, industrial, or domestic.
The compactness of this semi-ooke can be increased by its compression during its journey in the distillation chamber, using a free chain, resting on it, suitably weighted, and the soft end of which ensures compression. softened fuel to hardening at the end of distillation, without the. continuity of movement is modified.
The pressure of this second chain is adjustable at will by increasing or decreasing the. arrow of the soft strand, d) or finally extract primary tars and rich gases, as indicated above, and also gas to water and gas to air, by sending the semi-coke to another grid chain or in a shaft furnace where the combustion of the semi-coke is carried out by the oxygen of the water or the oxygen of the air, according to the conventional methods of manufacturing gas to water or gas to the air.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example. different embodiments of the invention which will be described successively Figure 1 shows the embodiment of the first case where only the primary tars and gasolines are extracted, and where the distillation gases are used in part
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
heating the distillation chamber, the remainder being burnt in the boiler.
Figure 2 shows the realization of the second case, where the primary tars and gasolines are extracted, as well as the rich gas produced, and where the semi-coke is burned, as in the first case, on the same grid chain, in a boiler for example.
Figures 3 and 4 give embodiments of the third case. in which the primary tars and gasolines are extracted, as well as the distillation gas and in which the semi-coke is smothered to prevent it from burning and then used in a separate apparatus., FIG. 5 is a diagram relating to the fourth case, in which the semicoke, after suffocation, is received on a second chain grate where it is gasified.
In Figure 1, we find successively, from left to right: the dryer S, the distillation compartment D, the combustion chamber C, and the boiler V. Below, the grate G.
We see that the chain grate is the grate that would normally be fitted to the boiler, but that it is extended towards the front, under the distillation compartment D and the dryer S.
The dryer, given by way of example, can be formed by vertical channels where the raw fuel moves by gravity, and which are heated by the flue gases from the boiler.
The fuel, dried and heated, falls on the grill where the thickness of the layer is regulated by door P.
The fuel flows freely in chamber D, heating

<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
to which they yield with their sensible heat; then they are withdrawn into the H boxes, with the hydrocarbons released by the distilled fuel. A suitably shaped piece
Q rests on the fuel bed and opposes the passage of gases from one compartment to the other.
In said FIG. 1, the regenerator R is heated by burners O1 using either lean gas produced by an auxiliary gasifier, or even distillation gas. The regenerator could also be heated by the flue gases from the boiler.
In FIG. 3, the extraction of the semicoke in pulverized form has been envisaged. On leaving the condensing devices, the cooled distillation gas is directed to the I-box, passes through the flexible apron and the semi-oooke layer which gives it its sensible heat, and is smothered. The gas thus partially reheated goes to regenerator R and goes through the same cycle as previously.
The semi-coke, after passing through the tuffing chamber T, passes into a grinding apparatus J where it is reduced to dust before complete cooling.
In FIG. 4, the extraction of semi-coke in agglomerated form has been envisaged. An endless chain K, with adjustable tension, of the same width as the layer of fuel, weighs on the latter when it is softened, ie during distillation. The chain is free it is driven by the movement of the fuel, so that no relative movement is created between the layer and the two chains K and G. The hardened semi-coke is then smothered in the chamber according to the same process as before.
When he / she left grid G,
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
the semi-ooke accumulates in hoppers ,, after passing through a U sieve which separates the menu,
In the device of FIG. 5, the extraction of tars, gasolines and rich gas is carried out as in those of FIGS. 3 and 4.
The semi-coke collected is still hot. It falls into a hopper ... store Y from which it passes over the second chain grate G1. The necessary blowing air coming from the fan W is brought to red by combustion. It passes under the vaults F where it is subjected to the action of the water vapor blown under the grille and is gasified. . The water gas formed is drawn into the H1 boxes, then gives up its sensible heat in an N exchanger intended to raise the temperature of the blowing steam.
Two boosters Z1 and Z2 allow simultaneous delivery of the rich distillation gas from the grid G and the water gas produced by the grid G1 in the same gasometer, for later use.
After passing under the gasification tunnel vaults F, the semi-coke leaves the grate and falls into a pit, where its combustion is completely completed by blowing air supplied by the fan W,
The fumes from both this combustion and the combustion on the first part of the grid O1 heats a superheater boiler V1 which produces the steam necessary for gasification,
The mechanical grate gasifier may be replaced by a shaft furnace of the type commonly employed with reverse gasification.
