<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
56 coupler une bouteille pour l'introduction de l'agent opérant,;
,
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

Machine powered by the heat of the sun.
This invention relates to installations for using the heat of the sun by transforming it into mechanical energy with the help of a substance which is alternately in the liquid state and in the gaseous state, and the tension of which acts in a machine. - not driving.
The object of the invention is an installation of this type in which the motor organs are enclosed, in a hermetically closed space, where the liquid operating agent is introduced and where the action of the substance which is exerted is exerted. heated by solar rays.
In this way it is possible to achieve a complete seal of the space where the agent operating in the gaseous state acts, by having recourse to a lubricant which occupies the lower portion.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of this space and which is entrained on the sliding surfaces of the machine.
The invention also includes other features which will emerge from the following description.
In the accompanying drawing is shown by way of example one embodiment of the invention, and FIG. 1 is a schematic vertical section of a complete group; fig. 2 is another partial schematic sectional view, to show the devices intended to ensure the hermeticity of the piston and of the stuffing box; Fig. 3 is a sectional plan of the lower portion of the machine, and Fig. 4 is a vertical section to show a detail.
The installation shown in fig.l comprises a solar heat collector which may be constituted by a box 1 made of sheet metal, arranged with the most suitable inclination to receive the sun's radiation. From this box, which will contain a suitable fluid, for example water, leave, at the upper and lower ends, pipes 2 and 3 leading to the evaporator.
This evaporator consists of a metal container with a bell 4 inside which takes place a hollow body 5 which forms an interstice 5 'with the wall of the bell 4. In the body 5 is housed a cylinder 7 which, with the wall of the chamber. body 5, forms an annular chamber 6 in communication with the interior of the body at the upper part. In this chamber 6 are arranged tubes 8 which terminate, at the top, in a plate 9 which closes the upper portion of the body 5 by forming, with the bell 4, a chamber 10 where the pipe 2 ends. At their lower end,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the tubes 8 open into the gap 5 'closed at the bottom by a flange 10'.
At the top of the bell 4 is connected a tube 11 leading to the suction side of a pump 12, the compression side of which is connected to the pipe 3, so that the pump 12 circulates (in the direction of the arrows) to the interior of the tubes 2, 3 and 11, and in the gap 5 'and the tubes 8, the fluid which is heated in the heat collector 1.
The flange 10 ', belongs to a casing 13 located below the bell 4 and intended to contain the elbow shaft 14 and the controls of a piston machine whose cylinder is indicated by 15 and' 'pr. end place inside cylinder 7.
In the example shown, the machine comprises a piston 16 with inclined faces connected, by the rod 16 'and the connecting rod 17, to the crank of the shaft 14, and the dispensing is effected by an actuated spool 18. by the connecting rod 19 and the glass of which is open in the hollow of the cylinder 7.
The discharge of the motor is brought, through the tube 20, to a condenser formed by a container 21, occupied by a chamber 22, which comprises. tubes 23 intended to be traversed by cold water.
The discharge from the condenser is connected, by a pipe 24, with a pump 25 (fig.3), the mechanisms of which are enclosed in a compartment 6 'of the casing 13. This compartment 6' communicates, through a hole 6 ', with the chamber 6. The pump 25 comprises a piston 58 and a distributor 57 connected, by connecting rods 60 and 59, to eccentrics 62 and 61 wedged with a phase difference of 90 on the shaft 14 of the motor; pump delivers into the compartment
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
ment 6 ', through tube 26, the operating agent which has been liquefied from in the condenser and which it sucks from tube 24.
The flywheel 27, wedged on the bent shaft 14 which comes out of the housing through a stuffing box 28, wedged a toothed wheel 29 from which, with the aid of a toothed wheel 30, the rotation of a shaft 31. This directly actuates the pump 12 and, with the aid of a connecting rod 67, a pump 32 to deliver cold water into the tube 33 leading to the condenser, from which the water is discharge via a pipe 68. This pipe can be placed in communication, by means of a valve 69, with a connection 70 of the tube 3, so as to be able to charge and discharge the chamber through which the fluid heated by the tubes passes. sunshine.
The pumps 12 and 32 could naturally also be action-. born in a different way or also independently of the main machine.
The prime mover comprises, in the case shown, a single double-acting cylinder 15 with inclined bottoms, in which slides a piston 16 with the inclined front walls. This piston comprises, in its middle portion, between the packing segments, an annular groove 36 which, through a duct (inside the rod 16 '), a chamber 35 and a tube 34, communicates with the compartment 6 'with which are also in communication, through a pipe 63, the annular grooves 64 existing in the distributor 57 (Fig.2 and 3).
The stuffing box 28, which constitutes the only movable seal in the system, is shown separately in fig. 2. The gasket 37 is divided into three zones by two metal chambers 38 and 39 are the first communicates, by means of the tube 40, with a reservoir 41 arranged in the interior.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
interior of cylinder 7, and above cylinder 15; this reservoir 41 has a hole 41 'which puts its interior in communication with the cylinder 7.
The other metal chamber 39 communicates, by a small tube 42, with an auxiliary reservoir 43, in communication with the atmosphere through a mouth 44 and in communication with a hand pump
45 which, using a tube 46 and a valve 47, can supply the conduit 40 and the reservoir 41.
The device also includes other accessories: among these there is a small 48 'tube which enters. the lower portion of cylinder 7 where it ends with a head 49 provided with a thin hole, while the opposite end of tube 48 is closed by a plug 51, which can be unscrewed from the outside.
There is also an opening closed by a plug 53 for coupling a vacuum machine, the connection of which will include one. tail to remove the valve 54. Finally there is another opening closed by a plug 65 and controlled by a valve 66 to y
56 couple a bottle for the introduction of the operating agent;
,
To put the installation in working order, fill the collector 1 with water with the pipes 2 and 3 and attached capacities, and after having evacuated the interior using the machine connected to the mouth which is normally closed by the stopper 53, a very viscous lubricant with a specific weight higher than that of the operating agent employed is introduced into the casing 13; then one introduces, using a bottle 56 , and through the mouth which is normally closed by the stopper 65, the necessary quantity of agent operating in the capacity formed by the chamber 6, by the cylinder 7 and by the interior hollow -du condenser.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
As a lubricant, for example, glycerin will be adopted and as an operating agent, methyl chloride or another substance having similar properties will be adopted.
It is also useful to introduce into the condenser 21 a quantity of lubricant such as to reach the mouth of the tube 24, and the lubricant can reach, in the cylinder 7, the lower opening of the distribution spool 18.
In this way, the lubricant ensures the hermetic closure of the seal between the evaporator and the machine casing; this seal must therefore only prevent the leakage of a fairly dense liquid.
The lubricant which enters the cylinder 15, being entrained by the operating agent, leaves it easily during the unloading phase, because of the inclination of the bottoms of the cylinder and of the piston towards the openings of the distributor spool.
The lubricant which occupies the bottom of the cylinder 7 and of the chamber 6 is subjected to the pressure of the vaporized operating agent and consequently to the maximum pressure of the cycle; it is therefore discharged, through the tube 34, into the annular groove 36 of the piston 16, which prevents vapor leaks from the cylinder.
With this arrangement the lubricant, which enters slowly into the cylinder, enters into circulation with the operating agent and, after having passed through the various organs, assembles in compartment 6 'from which it returns to chamber 6; This ensures, in addition to a hydraulic closure for the vapors, also an abundant lubrication of the whole machine with complete recovery of the lubricant.
In the same way, the hermeticity and lubrication of the distributor 57 are ensured, the annular grooves of which communicate with the compartment 6 'through the duct 63.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The airtightness of the stuffing box 28 is ensured by the fact that in the chamber 38 there is the same pressure as inside the machine, the chamber 38 being in communication with the reservoir 41, while in the chamber 39 there is the atmospheric pressure there can therefore only be a passage of lubricant from chamber 38 to chamber 39 and from the latter into reservoir 43, from where the lubricant is returned to reservoir 41 by actuation of pump 45.
Of course, if you do not want to recover the lubricant, you can also omit the pump 45 and the tank 43, in which case it will be necessary to introduce from time to time, into the machine, other lubricant to replace the one leaving the tank. room 39.
In any case, the degree of filling of the reservoir 41 can be easily noted when the pump is operated; in fact until the tank is not full, the hole 41 'lets out gases which give rise to a low resistance, while the resistance is much higher through the hole 41' must exit the lubricant .
To check from the outside whether the lubricant in cylinder 7 is above or below a determined level, there is the small tube 48 from which the lower plug 51 is unscrewed (fig.4). If its upper connection 49 is immersed in the lubricant, the latter comes out very slowly, while if said connection is above the liquid, there will be an abundant efflux accompanied by gases.
The operating agent which is introduced into the machine using a bottle 56 connected in place of the stopper 65 (fig. 3) is, under steady-state conditions, in the liquid state in the condenser,
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
and it is sent by the pump 25, through the tube 26, into the. compartment 6 'where it rises through the mass of the lubricant and, through the holes 6 ", it enters, into the annular chamber 6.
In this, the operating agent undergoes heating by the part of the hot liquid passing through the tubes 8 and occupying the interstice 5 ', so that the operating agent vaporizes and invades the cylinder 7, penetrating alternately, as a result of the functioning of the mirror 18, in the two chambers of the cylinder 15. Since the chamber of the cylinder which does not communicate with the cylinder
7 is placed in communication with the discharge formed by the tube 20 leading to the condenser 21, there is established on the two opposite faces of the piston the pressure difference which causes its displacement in turn in both directions, and consequently the rotation of the shaft 14.
The rotation of this shaft also causes the operation of the different pumps and it ensures the circulation of the hot fluid in the pipes 2 and 3, as well as the passage of cold water through the condenser 21.
The installation described makes it possible to achieve, from all points of view, the best conditions for a good performance of the machine and for reducing losses to a minimum.
