Cet isolant B, ainsi préparée muni de sa tige d'électrode centrale E enrobée, sur la hauteur l1 L2 ,de poudre comprimée, est mis en place dans le fond du culot A et repose sur le joint d'étanchéité métallique K, Buis on introduit à l'intérieur- du culot, par dessus l'iso- lant B ainsi placé, une autre poudre M, finement pulvé- risée qui,, non seulement résiste dans une certaine me-. sure à la chaleur, mais qui est en même temps isolante;

1 ) - Dtéviter toute faite lorsque la bougie fonctionne, corrigeant ainsi les effets inégaux de la dilatation du culot et de l'isolant B ;

porcelain or its derivatives, quartz, etc., cannot resist, the central electrode and the heating insulator between measurement, which produces self-ignition phenomena or gives a link, at the very least, to bad ignitions.
The object of the present invention is a spark plug arranged so as to eliminate this abnormal heating, so detrimental to proper ignition by preventing the burning gases from coming into contact with the most extreme possible part of the insulator and of the rod. central electrode.
This spark plug has the following essential characteristics a) - between the central electrode and the insulator there is provided a chamber extending almost to the end of said insulator and in which is compressed a very fine incombustible powder and preferably (electrically) insulating such as crushed and pulverized quartz. b) - the central insulator is in two parts between which is placed a very fine, compressed powder layer, forming an elastic mattress of incombustible and insulating material, such as crushed glass, the compression of the powder taking place by pressing the l 'insulation by means of the usual gland nut.
c) - the tightness is ensured by metal gaskets formed by washers interposed between each of the two parts of the insulation and the base, which washers run on a circular edge of the base, so that the seal retains its freedom and can follow the conical shape of the insulation and ensure its centering. d) - the central electrode is fitted with friction due to a rod which is engaged and held in the upper part of the central insulator, with interpo-

sition of a sealing washer.
The description which will follow with regard to the appended drawing, given by way of example, will clearly explain the manner in which the invention is carried out,
As can be seen in the drawing, this spark plug consists of the metal base A having its ground electrode at 7 and its clamping gland P. The central insulator is in two parts; one B having its metallic seal in K, arranged as will be explained below, 1, = other 0 has its metallic seal in H.
The central metal rod D, having its seal in N and the end of which has a hole 0 in which the central electrode E is force-fitted, is inserted into the insulator 0,
The central electrode rod 3 is surrounded almost to its end by a sheath L, in very fine incombustible powder and preferably electrically insulating, such as finely ground and pulverized quartz; this powder is compressed in a housing or chamber provided in the slant B.
This insulator B, thus prepared provided with its central electrode rod E coated, on the height l1 L2, with compressed powder, is placed in the bottom of the base A and rests on the metal seal K, Buis on introduced inside the base, over the insulator B thus placed, another powder M, finely pulverized which ,, not only resists to a certain extent. heat-safe, but at the same time insulating;
for example finely pulverized crushed glass,
This powder is put in an appropriate quantity, filling all the existing voids and constitutes an elastic mattress M on which the second insulator C provided with its central rod D is engaged, the seal having been

put in place before itintrodnotion of the insulating powder; the insulation C thus rests on the seal H and on the compressed powder mattress 11.
We vtsae% during the prese-l1pe P, which makes the end 11 of the central electrode 3 penetrate into the housing c of the rod D, which is slightly lower

If we continue to screw the cable gland P, the insulation 0 comes to strongly compress the mattress of insulating powder M which, itself, puts pressure on the

first insulator 13 and this elastically; the powder k being compressible will also put pressure on the part L2 of the powder L.
At the end of tightening, the H and K gaskets are crushed to ensure a good seal. % 'end file-

elastically on the K seal, which gives the advantages:
1) - Avoid ready-made when the spark plug is working, thus correcting the uneven effects of the expansion of the base and of the insulator B;
2) To moderate the pressure on this insulator B which can be fragile when hot, which reduces breakage.
As seen in the drawing; the washers or

the conical shape of said insulator which is thus perfectly centered; moreover, this metal seal, which only rests on a small surface area of the base, will heat up fairly quickly at the time of the first explosions, which will prevent the breakage of insulators sensitive to alternations of heat and cooling.
It will be understood that modifications of detail can be made to the device, which is the subject of the invention, without thereby departing from the scope thereof; in particular these gaskets or washers applying to an aircular edge or flange at an angle vi f of the base, are applicable to spark plugs of all kinds.
