<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Figure 1 représente un tracé, sur le diagramme entropique du cycle de transformations mis en oeuvre de préférence ;

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
tendeur.

"Method of heating by air and apparatus for its realization" .-
The object of the present invention is to make practically usable the heat which is available in transformation cycles of fluids such that this heat is notably greater than 1: calorific equivalent of the energy expended, thus making it possible to ob. keep a heater with an energy consumption, electric for example, several times (to b times) lower than that consumed. used in resistance devices for the same amount of heat produced.
Such cycles are similar in particular to the operating cycles of certain refrigeration machines because the heat available during the cycle can not be greater than the energy expended if there has been cooling of the external environment, hence a fri - gorific linked to the calorific effect.
Machines built with a view to producing this refrigerating effect therefore give off heat, but this heat is unusable because, by construction, it is produced at as low a temperature as possible (usually around 25). we would think of modifying the functioning,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
-ment of these machines to make this heat usable, the exchange with the outside having to be carried out by means of radiators, for example, one would be brought, to achieve an efficient heating, while keeping at these devices of acceptable dimensions, to take as maximum temperature of the cycle a high temperature, just as the minimum temperature should be chosen a sufficiently low temperature.
It follows that the theoretical efficiency of the machine, which varies inversely with the difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures, would therefore be greatly reduced. Furthermore, such a temperature difference makes it impossible to use refrigeration machines of the conventional evaporating type because the variation in volume or pressure necessary for such a difference becomes practically impossible.
With a view to making it possible to obtain, by transformation cycles of this kind, practically usable heat, the object of the invention is a method making it possible to reduce the temperature difference which determines the efficiency, and being characterized for this purpose, in that air is used as the fluid involved during the cycle, and after heating as a heating agent, which makes it possible to use its heat by discharging it directly into the atmosphere which it will heat by mixing, and in that the air, preferably humidified in order to increase its oalorific capacity, is subjected to a cycle of transformations such as it is at atmospheric pressure, or at a neighboring pressure,
in the hottest state and in the coldest state reached during the course of the transformation cycle, the cycle used preferably being described below.
This method of use, besides reducing the temperature difference, has the following advantages for heat production: a) the presence of water in the air improves efficiency
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
calorific while it greatly lowers the cooling efficiency; b) friction losses are recovered in the form of heat.
The subject of the invention is also an apparatus for carrying out the heating method described above, the characteristics of which will appear in the description which follows, and which is constituted by a compressor-expansion valve of the rotary type. finned, specially adapted to the realization of heating by air by its ability to achieve with a small footprint and a good efficiency the large air flow rates required, this ability resulting from devices which reduce to a slip without rotation the movement of the fins, as well as devices reducing the friction of the fins against the rotating member or rotor.
The oompressor-regulator works by pushing then sucking in fixed auxiliary capacities, the air of which is thus compressed and relaxed without loss by friction and then displaced by constant pressure. In order to make the invention clearly understood, and by way of exemplary embodiment, one embodiment is hereinafter described and shown schematically in the drawings appended to this Descriptive Memorandum; in these drawings:
FIG. 1 represents a plot, on the entropy diagram of the cycle of transformations preferably implemented;
Figure 2 is a diagram showing the completion of the ABCD cycle in the rotary expansion valve with auxiliary capacities,
Figure 3 is a diagram showing the carrying out of the complete transformation cycle in the rotary expansion valve; in figures 2 and 3 the lower case letters correspond to the upper case letters in figure 1.
Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view of one embodiment of the rotary expansion valve with auxiliary capacities arranged at the rear of the compressor: said compressor realizing,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
for example, the ABCD cycle.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view along the line x-x of Figure 4, the upper capacity being in a period of pressure and the lower capacity in the period of relaxation.
Figure 6 is a view in longitudinal section along the line yy of Figure 4, the upper and lower capacities being reduced, by the rotary distributor in communication one with an exchanger, the other with the atmosphere .
FIG. 7 is a view similar to FIG. 4 of a variant embodiment of the rotary compressor-eur-expansion valve 1 auxiliary capacities, varying in which the capacities are arranged at the periphery of the compressor.
Figure 8 is a view similar to Figure 5, of this variant.
Figure 9 being a view similar to Figure 6.
FIG. 1 represents, plotted on the entropy diagram, an operating key which applies particularly well to heating by air.
In this figure the horizontal axis OS is the entropy axis and the vertical axis OT the absolute temperature axis; it can be seen that the operating cycle comprises the adiabatic compression AB of a weight P of fluid taken from the room to be heated, and consequently at atmospheric pressure, which fluid at the end of compression is discharged into an exchanger on it. undergoes constant pressure cooling BC, the fluid then being expanded along CD and discharged, when relaxed and cold outside the room to be heated.
A new weight p 'of external fluid is used concurrently, generally equal to P, also at atmospheric pressure and it is subjected to an expansion A'B', after which it is discharged into the aforesaid exchanger to undergo heating B'C 'at constant pressure thanks to the heat released by the hot fluid following BC; then it undergoes in the compressor-expansion valve an adiabatiue compression C'D 'to be finally evacuated, at atmospheric pressure, in the room
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
to be heated. We therefore see that the complete cycle is closed by the isobar
DD 'corresponding to atmospheric pressure One of the plots
ABCD or A'B'C'D 'can be reduced to the isobar DD'.
With regard to the fluid which is subjected to this cycle of physical transformations, it can be dry air, but it is more advantageous to use humidified air, since the heat capacity of, the air is therefore increased in large proportions due to the heat absorbed by the vaporization of the water as the temperature rises.
The water thus brought into play describes a cycle whose calorific effect is added to that of the air, without increasing the volume of fluid brought into play (Dalton's law)
This transformation cycle can be carried out advantageously in the compressor-expansion valve described below, of the type of rotary vane compressors known, but characterized. relative to the latter, in particular in that the vanes no longer have any rotational movement and in that the different sections of the apparatus, delimited by the stator, the rotor and two consecutive vanes and whose volume varies. continuously between a maximum and a minimum, carry out their repression and their aspiration in corresponding auxiliary capacities at constant volume.
In these figures 1 is the fixed copps or stator of the apparatus, comprising a series of radial grooves 2 in which can slide radial vanes 3, resting, so as to ensure the desired seal on a rotor 4 cylindrical, the axis 5 of which is eccentric relative to the axis 6 of the stator 1.
The rotor 4 with axis 5 rotates around the axis 6, so that, during the rotational movement of the rotor 4, the volume of a section between two consecutive vanes varies constantly between a maximum and a half. not having. as a result, no movement / minimum of rotation, their movement is reduced to simple reciprocating reciprocations in the radial grooves 2
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
stator 1; this has the advantage of eliminating the effect of the centrifugal force which is exerted on the vanes of ordinary rotary compressors, and consequently makes it possible to run at high speed, hence the possibility of achieving high flow rates. air with a device of small dimensions.
In combination with the components described above, fixed auxiliary capacities are provided, in a number equal to the sections of the compressor-expansion valve and in constant communication with them. In the embodiment shown in Figures 4 to 6, these auxiliary capacities 7,7 ', 7 ", 7", etc ..... in number corresponding to that of the variable sections of the compressor-expansion valve, are produced by means of fixed partitions compartmentalising a rear extension of the stator 1.
In order to put in communication with the exchanger, there is the atmosphere, at the desired moment, of the capacitors 7, a rotary distributor driven by the rotor 4 and constituted, for example, by an extension 4 'of the said rotor, the assembly being emptied centrally so as to constitute a cylindrical duct 8 closed off by a part forming a solid disc 9 perpendicular to its axis, said duct 8 having openings 10 and 10 ', 11 and 11' (which can be provided fins intended to give the fluid a suitable speed in size and direction), and being internally divided into two compartments by a diametral partition 12. It will be seen, by examining FIG. 5 that the upper capacity 7, at the end of compression,
is kept closed by the rotary distributor 4 'as is the lower capacitor 7 "during the expansion period and, by examining FIG. 6, we see that the upper capacitor 7' is placed in communication by the slots 10 and 10 'with the exchanger which can be of any suitable type (Plate tubes, etc ....
continuous operation. on discontinuous, with heat accumulation by water reserve etc ...) and in which the hot compressed fluid flows
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
in the direction indicated by arrow 13, at the same time as the cooled fluid is admitted, at the same pressure, Keeping from the exchanger following arrow 14, a pallet or separator-expander 15, articulated around its end 16 and oscillating due to the movement of the fluid or controlled by the movement of the distributor (by helical groove provided on the latter, for example) ensuring the separation of cold and hot fluids and the evacuation of com - award-winning hot at the interchange,
Also seen in FIG. 6 is the lower capacity 7 '' 'placed in communication with the atmosphere in which is discharged, according to arrow 17, the relaxed and cold fluid, which is replaced by new fluid at the same. pressure (arrow ohe 18).
As regards the vanes 3, their radial displacements must be controlled and, for this purpose, a control by fluid pressure can be provided by arranging around the stator 1 a casing for circulation of oil or other unpressurable fluid (or compressible) in communication with the grooves 2, the movement of the pallets then becoming automatic; they can also be controlled mechanically, for example by means of connecting rods articulated around axis 5, or rings centered on axis 5.
As for the contact between the vanes 3 and the periphery of the rotor 4, it can be ensured by all appropriate means reducing friction, or increasing the seal, for example by providing at the end of each of said vanes a contact roller. or a labyrinth device articulated around the end. The surface of the rotor may be free to rotate around its axis 5, which reduces the contact of this surface with the vanes 3 to a low amplitude oscillation.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 7 to 9, the auxiliary capacities at constant volume 7 into which the corresponding sections of the compressor-expansion valve flow are no longer arranged laterally but at the periphery of the compressor-expansion valve.

tensioner. In this embodiment, the rotor 4 is formed in such a way as to form the rotary distributor and fan.
It is of course fine, it is possible, without departing from the invention, to provide variants and improvements in details; for example, the complete heating cycle (fig. 1 and 3) can be carried out no longer by means of two similar devices, but of a single device. Similarly the degree of compression and, consequently, the temperature of the hot fluid can be made variable by modifying the eccentricity of axes 5 and 6 or by adding variable auxiliary capacities to the fixed auxiliary capacities 7.
Likewise, the cooling heat of the motor used for driving the compress ... regulator may be recovered for the purpose of heating the fluid.
