<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Frame, in particular for double-acting piston machines.
The invention relates to a frame, in particular for double-acting piston machines, and it consists in using special support parts with the aid of which the compressive forces coming from the cylinder are transmitted directly to the bearings of the shaft by the 'intermediary of the internal parts of the frame, while the tensile forces are supported by the external parts of the frame. The bearing pieces can receive a shape and an arrangement such that the directions of the forces which they transmit pass through the journal of the 'tree. Part of the support pieces can be cast in the base, the other part preferably being constituted by removable feet. these / with adjustable position.
These bearing pieces can have spherical surfaces engaging in cups of the same shape or be constructed in the form of a wedge. We prefer to go up

this between the support pieces which are located in the upper part of the frame and the frame, an intermediate piece rigidly connected to the latter.
The object of the invention is represented by the drawings in the form of a few schematic embodiments applied to double-acting internal combustion engines.
Fig. 1 is a section through a crate frame.
Figs. 2 and 3 are sections of a frame provided with tie rods.
Fig. 4 is a section taken along the line I-I of FIG. 3.
Figs 5,6 and 7 are detail views.
In fig. 1 the frame consists of the base 1 and the upper part 2 on which the cylinder 3 is fixed.
4 is the crank shaft which is mounted between the bearing 5 and the bearing cap 6. According to the invention, bearing pieces 8 are mounted between the inner part of the frame, which part is reinforced by ribs 7, and the crank shaft, and bearing pieces 9 are mounted between the base and the shaft bearing.
Thanks to this particular construction of the batin, the compressive forces coming from the cylinder are transmitted directly by the internal parts 7 of the frame and the supporting parts 8 and 9, while the tensile forces are supported by the external parts 10.
In fig. 2 the cylinder 3 is connected by tie rods 11 to the base 1 and to the upper part 2 of the frame. The arrangement is similar in principle to that of FIG. 1, from which it differs however in that the reinforcing ribs 7 * which is located between the bearing surface 12 of the intermediate parts 8 and the upper part of the frame 2 converge towards the center of the crank shaft on 4. The Transmission of the compressive forces therefore takes place inside the parts of the frame limited by the tie rods 11.
In the embodiment represented by FIGS. 3 and 4, an intermediate piece 14 rigidly fixed to the frame in a known manner is mounted between the bearing surfaces 12 and the bearing pieces 8.
As shown in fig. 5, The bearing pieces can be made to position adjustable in several ways.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
While the support piece 15 is such that its position can be varied by means of a nut 19 coming into contact with the bearing cap 0 and resting on the upper part of this cap, it is possible to also vary the position of the support piece 16 by a screw connection, but this piece rests by means of a spherical surface 17 in a cup 18 of corresponding shape carried by the bearing cap. The lower support pieces 20 and 21 can also be removable: and adjustable position.
Fig. 6 shows a variant in which the bearing pieces 8 are mounted by means of screw connection 22 and 23 between the bearing cap 6 and the bearing surface 16 of the frame.
In FIG. 7 the bearing pieces are in the form of wedges, 24,25 and 26,27. The assembly further comprises an intermediate piece 14. The displacement of the wedges can be effected by means of a known device. which, for simplicity, is not shown.
