Dais le filtre qui fait l'objet de l'invention; le sable est retenu, du côté de l'arrivée du lipide, par exemple à la périphérie,' ]par une série d'anneaux coniques superposés, à la manière connue. La caractéristique nouvelle est que, du du côté du départ du liquide filtré,' par exemple au centre du filtre, le sable est retenu par une parlai- en matière fibreuse convenable (amiante,' laine,' etc..) portée ou retenue par un cylindre simple ou double. perforé? en plomb? céramique, oelluloid ou matières analogues,' suivant les cas;

PATENT OF INVENTION Improvements in sand filters.
The subject of the invention is improvements in sand filters, and the aim of making them suitable for the filtration of corrosive, acidic or alkaline liquids.
Dais the filter which is the object of the invention; the sand is retained, on the side where the lipid arrives, for example at the periphery, by a series of superimposed conical rings, in the known manner. The novel feature is that on the side where the filtered liquid leaves, for example in the center of the filter, the sand is retained by a suitable fiber material (asbestos, wool, etc.) carried or retained by a single or double cylinder. perforated? lead? ceramic, celluloid or the like, as appropriate;
as for the metal rings provided on arrival, they will be either leaded or coated with a suitable protective coating, for example based on synthetic resin or plastics.
The fibrous material, constituting the wall which must be allowed to pass through by the filtered liquid while retaining the sand, can be arranged either in the form of a stuffing between two perforated cylinders an asbestos filling between two cylinders
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
perforated lead is particularly suitable for very strong acids - either in the form of a sheath or of a thick woven jacket threaded over a single perforated cylinder - such a woolen fabric sheath on a perforated celluloid cylinder. can be used for weak acids and alkalis -.
The accompanying drawing represents by way of example only one embodiment of the object of the invention, 'in the freeze 1 in the case of the single perforated cylinder, and,' in partial figure 2, in the case of a double perforated cylinder.
The filter box is formed by a solid envelope 1 of any shape, for example cylindrical with a conical bottom 2; sheet metal coated on the inside with a protective coating unassailable by the libido to be filtered, this box is closed at the top by a removable cover held in place by any means.
In this box iron and in the cavity 3 at the bottom, 'is placed filter sand which is held,' on the outside, by a series of conical metal rings 4 and, on the inside, 'by a wall tubular fiber material (18 or 18 ') through which the filtered liquid will pass:
In the axis and inside this wall, 'is arranged a tube 6 terminated at its lower part by a nozzle 7 into which washing water can be injected through the nozzle 8 and the inlet pipe d pressurized water 9; a cover 10 normally closes the upper part of the fibrous tubular wall so that the liquid to be filtered does not arrive directly from above inside; when the sand is to be washed, the cover 10 is removed, the water is injected through the pipe 9, and this water, after having passed through and cleaned the sand, flows out, carrying with it the impurities to through the sieve 11 to go through the tubing 12 for the washing water outlet.
In filtration operation, this tuba * lure 12 is of course closed.
The liquid to be filtered arrives through the pipe 13 in the annular space 14 between the casing 1 and the conical rings 4, and,

after passing through the sand and the fibrous tabular wall,

the liquid goes through line 3.5 and outlet pipe 16.
