<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
La guêtre. 1 au, lieu d'être en substance gommeu- se, peut aussi être fabriquée en caoutchouc, en gutta- percha, ou substance analogue;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Rubber gaiter"
Gaiters or similar protective garments have heretofore been made of woven material, as these allow skin perspiration in use, albeit low. These gaiters made of woven materials, however, have the disadvantage that they allow moisture to pass through and that it is difficult, or even impossible to remove the uncleanliness of the streets, because the latter penetrates the walls. fabric. Above all, woven gaiters wear a lot on the leg and give it an unpleasant appearance.
In fact, attempts were made to make gaiters out of thin gummy substances, but it was not possible to wear such gaiters, because the removal of all perspiration from the pores of the skin is difficult even after short use. and results in heavy secretion of sweat; long use is usually not possible.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
according to the invention this drawback of gaiters made of thin gummy substances is eliminated by the fact that the thin gummy substance, even before working it into a gaiter, is made permeable to air.
This is achieved, for example, by arranging very small openings, obtained by piercing the substance, for example, with sharp needles, preferably by a mechanical process * These openings are so small, * they are not visible from the outside; it is only by the weak extension of the substance for use that they enlarge sufficiently to allow the perspiration of the skin to pass; they become visible only by a moderate extension of the substance, if lion maintains the latter, for example, near the light. However, the openings are so small that it is impossible for moisture or unsuitability from the outside to pass through and, to reach the bottom.
In use, owing to the fact that the muscles of the leg continually tense and relax themselves, the thin gummy substance will also tighten and relax more or less, and this happens at small openings. a suction and compression effect similar to that produced by a bellows The use of the gaiter is, as it has been established by tests, also pleasant in summer and in winter, because the gummy substance provided with the small openings like silk, acts in summer in a cooling way and in winter produces a moderate heating.
The drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the object of the invention, and in particular the side view of a gaiter made of a thin gummy substance provided with fine openings and tightly surrounding the leg *
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The gaiter. 1 instead of being a gummy substance, can also be made of rubber, gutta-percha, or the like;
in all these substances, which are stretchable by themselves, the fine openings 7 can be made by passing through the substance by means of a fine needle * The gaiter is, according to the goal to be achieved, dimensioned so that as a result of the current fashion for short skirts it only protects the ladies' legs covering the stockings in thin transparent gauze from the knee joint to the soles of the feet $ and in particular regardless of the type of shoes currently worn * Despite the very small openings, the gummy substance is impermeable to water,
.so that sensitive stockings cannot be reached by humidity or dirt. The dust adhering to the gaiter can easily be washed off, even when the gaiter is still attached to the leg, because it forms since top to bottom a smooth uninterrupted surface without openings. At the point where the closure device preferably consisting of press studs 6 is attached to the thin gummy substance, this is folded back and the collar which has originated is preferably further provided with a coating. of fabric, thin leather or the like, which can be vulcanized.
The riveted or otherwise fixed fasteners thus hold as firmly as if they were introduced into rigid leather. The two fixing edges forming the beads are pressed together firmly by the press studs of so that the cutout extending in a straight line from top to bottom is likewise absolutely waterproof! the water..
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
A reinforcement similar to that of the longitudinal indentation edges can be provided transversely to the upper part on the free edges by means of the collar 4 and to the lower part at the foot on the free edges by means of the collars 2, so that these edges do not do not tear when you put on or take off the gaiter without taking precautions. The essence of the gaiter is, that it receives uniformly from the top to the bottom, and in some cases because of its transparency, even the beautiful color of the ladies' legs covered with gauze stockings.
