Description
LEG GUARD Filed July 1, 1958 F 5 I Ll INVE o. A E-H-EHENEI' NT R ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a shield for the back and sides of each of the legs of the user for preventing the legs or clothing surrounding the legs from becoming soiled by mud, rain or like.
Another object of my invention is to provide a leg shield which protects the legs and rear upper portion of the shoes of the wearer from receiving rain or like from the bottom of a raincoat or like garment.
A still further object of is to provide a leg guard or shield that may be easily .and quickly placed onor removed from the leg of the user.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a leg guard or shield that m fully worn without wrinkling or front crease of a pair of A still further object o vide a leg or guard shiel of legs.
trousers.
ay be successdamaging the f my invention is to prod that may be easily and quickly adjusted to fit various sizes and lengths A still further object of my invention is to provide a leg shield that is economical in manufacture, durable in use and refined in appearance.
These and other objects will be apparent to those skilled in the art.
My invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of the device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained as hereinafter more pointed out in my claims accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 is a side view of Fig. 2 is a longitudina upper portion of my leg Fig. 3 is a bottom view of a porti my leg shield.

the spring clamp used in Fig. 6 is a s de view of the device.
On rainy days, it is al the back and sides of the surrounding the legs from water and/or dirt. Mud upwardly on the backs of or hose surrounding the the feet walking over and on Also, if a raincoat or 1 surfaces. will run down the back becoming soiled sloppy and of the raincoat and f the spring clamp leg of the user with a most impossible to keep legs or the garments With and water are splashed the legs or the garments legs, by the action of dirty ike is used, water onto the backs of the legs of the user. In many instances, the water will run down the rear back end portion of the shoes and into the shoes. -I have overcome such objections by providing a quickly attachable and detachable leg shield that not only protects the back and sides of the leg but also extends down to a point below the upper rear end portion of the shoe.
Referring to the drawing, I have used the numeral II] to designate the leg portion of a pair 10 of trousers embracing a leg. The numeral H designates a shoe on the foot of the leg encasedby the trouser leg. The numeral l2 designates the body portion of my shield made of any suitable moisture or water-proof sheet material and preferably of a flexible material. This portion I2 is designed to extend down the back and sides of the leg as shown in Fig. l. The numerals l3, l4, and I5 designate horizontally extending tunnel loops formed in the upper portion of the mem- 2o ber l2. These tunnel loops are formed by inwardly lapping the upper end portion of the member l2 and sewing as shown in Fig. 2. The stitching for forming these tunnel loops is designated by the numeral l6. These three tunnel loops are positioned one above the other as shown in Fig. 2. The numeral [1 designates a spring clamp substantially U-shaped as shown in Fig. 5 and capable of being selectively inserted through any one of the tunnel loops l3, l4 and I5. In Fig. l, this spring clamp I1 is inserted through the tunnel loop l3. This spring clamp ll frictionally engages the leg of the user directly below the knee and obviously holds and supports the upper portion of the member l2 on the leg as illustrated. If the user of the device has comparatively short legs the spring camp I! will be inserted through either the loop M or loop l5.
If the clamp I1 is inserted throu h the loop M or loop [5, that portion of the member l2 that is above the selected loop may be folded inside the portion l2, thereby providing a neat appearing upper portion of my device. The outer end portions of the clamp H which frictionally engages the leg, has its two outer ends curved forwardly and outwardly to aid in guiding the device on the leg of the user. The two outer ends of the member I! protrude beyond the portion [2 and each of these end portions has a hole I8. If desired, a string or lace l9 may extend from each of these holes [8 and be tied as shown in Fig. 5 to aid in further securing the upper end \portion of the device to the leg of the user. The numeral 20 designates a horizontal band on the lower end portion of the member l2. The numeral 2| designates a plurality of spur buttons on this member 23 as shown in Fig. 4. These spur buttons 2| are located on the outer side of the device to facilitate their operation. The numeral 22 designates a band secured to the inner lower end portion of the member l2 at one of its ends and having a button hole slot 23 in its other end portion. This member 22 is designed to extend downwardly under the shoe of the user, directly in back of the heel of a shoe and then upwardly where its slot 23 is capable of selectively engaging any one of the spur buttons 2|. The numeral 24 designates a band secured to the inner lower portion of the member l2 at one of its ends and designed to extend around the front portion of the shoe and then rearwardly to permit its button slot opening 25 to selectively engage any one of the spur buttons 2!. Obviously, these two members 22 and 2:; when fastened will successfully hold the lower portion of the member 42 downwardly and forwardly on the foot. By providing a plurality of spur buttons 25, this portion of the device may be quickly and easily adjusted to different sizes of feet and shoes. The length of the member I2 is such that its lower end portion will extend below and overlap the upper rear end of the shoe H as shown in'Fig. 1. As the member 12 and the clamp i! only engages the back and sides of the leg, the leg of the trousers may extend forward of these members as shown in Fig. 1 and the front crease of the trouser leg will, therefore, not be crumpled nor wrinkled nor distorted when my device is worn.
From the foregoing it will readily be seen that I have provided a highly desirable leg shield that not only protects the back and sides of the leg,
but prevents water from running into the rear open top portion of the shoe.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of my improved leg shield without departing from the real spirit and purpose of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope.
I claim:
1. In a device of the class described, a'shield designed to embrace the rear portion of a leg, a tunnel loop formed in the upper portion of said shield, a U-shaped clamp extending through said loop having holes in each of its ends, and a string extending from the holes in said U-shaped member.
2. In a device of the class described, a shield designed to embrace the rear portion of a leg, a tunnel loop formed in the upper portion of said shield, a U-shap'ed clamp extending through said loop having holes in its ends, and means secured through said holes in said clamp for connecting the ends of said clamp and embracing the forward portion of the leg at times. v
3. In a device of the class described, a shield designed to embrace the rear portion of a leg, a plurality of adjacent tunnel loops formed adjacent the upper portion of said shield, and a U- shaped clamp capable of selectively extending through any one of said tunnel loops.
