<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"DEVICE FOR CONNECTING THE ARMS OF A SHOCK ABSORBER WITH THE ES; -.
SIEU AND WITH. THE CHASSIS, IN PARTICULAR FOR AUTOMOBILES "
The present invention relates to a device for connecting the arms of a shock absorber with the axle and with the chassis, in particular for automobiles, remarkable in particular by a connecting piece having, located in the same plane and perpendicular to each other , a tail for fixing to the axle or the frame by means of a suitable fitting and a journal for the shock absorber arm.
This connection device also has the following characteristics taken singly or in combination:
The shock absorber arm is mounted on the journal by means of a sleeve clamped between two sealing washers which are arranged, respectively, in an annular recess in the top of the connecting piece and in an annular piece placed at the end of the journal, in order to prevent impurities from entering between the bushing and an anti-friction pad or an elastic sleeve mounted on the journal.
The shock absorber arm is locked against a shoulder-

ment of the socket with which it pivots during movements between the axle and the frame.
The locking of the shock absorber arm on the sleeve and the clamping of the sleeve on the connecting piece are independent of each other.
A spherical bearing surface is provided on the tail of the connecting piece in order to allow the desired orientation of this piece on the interposed fitting, at the time of assembly.
The invention will be better understood by referring to the accompanying drawing by way of example in which:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the connecting device.
Figure 2 is a cross section taken along the line A-A of Figure 1.
The connection device shown in Figures 1 and
2, aims to join the arm 1 of the shock absorber to a part of the vehicle, either to the axle or to the chassis. For this purpose, a fitting 2 having an opening 3 is fixed on the axle or the frame; spherical seats 4 are formed on each of the faces of this fitting around the opening 3.
Through this opening 3 passes the threaded tail 5 of a connecting piece 6 which has, on the other hand, a journal 7. This connecting piece 6 has a washer with a spherical seat 8 which is applied against the pin. spherical seat 4 of the fitting. 2 to allow the connecting piece to be oriented at will.
A washer 9 with spherical bearing faces is passed over the shank 5, which rests against the lower spherical seat 4 of the fitting 2, and a nut 10 having a spherical face which rests against the washer .9 . by tightening the fitting 2 between the spherical seat washer 8 and the spherical seat washer 9, while allowing the shank 5 to be oriented at will thanks to the clearance 11 provided between the shank and the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
walls of the hole 3 of the fitting 2. On the journal 7 is disposed an anti-friction pad 12 or a sleeve of elastic material.
This pad? or sleeve itself carries a sleeve 13 on which is introduced the arm 7 of the shock absorber, which is: blocked against the shoulder 14 of the sleeve 13 by means of the nut 15 screwed on the threaded part 16 of socket 13.
The sleeve 13 itself is clamped at its ends, on the one hand by the connecting piece 6, and on the other hand by a nut 17 weaving on the end of the journal 7 with the interposition of an elastic member, such as as for example the washer 1710
The assembly formed by the arm 1, the sleeve 13, the nut 15 can turn on the journal 7 and thus lend itself to all the movements undergone by the arm 1 of the shock absorber. To ensure the sealing of the bearing and to prevent dust from entering between this bearing 12 and the journal 7, sealing washers 18 and 19 are provided on the one hand in an annular housing 20 of the connecting piece 6 itself. , and on the other hand in a disc 21 interposed between the sleeve 13 and the nut 17.
Instead of ensuring the seal in contact of the sleeve 13 with the washers 18 and 19, it is also possible to ensure this seal by means of the sleeve 12 suitably extended along the dotted lines 22 and pressing against these same sealing washers .
As can be seen, the locking of the arm of the shock absorber against the shoulder 14 of the sleeve, by means of the nut 12, can be carried out quite independently of the tightening of the sleeve 13 on the connecting piece 6 by means of nut 17.
The connecting device shown. in the accompanying drawing is given only by way of example, and it is understood that all the modifications of detail which would be made therein come within the scope of the present invention provided that

the principles set out above are applied.
