"APPAREIL POUR LE REGLAGE DE LA VITESSE DU TIR CONTINU DES
MITRAILLEUSES FONCTIONNANT PAR PRELEVEMENT DES GAZ"
<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>

"APPARATUS FOR ADJUSTING THE SPEED OF CONTINUOUS FIRE OF
GAS-SAMPLING MACHINE GUNS "
<EMI ID = 1.1>
firing rate of machine guns operating by gas sampling, and in particular, Hotchkiss machine guns.
The possibility of being able to adjust the speed of the firing at will makes it possible in particular to avoid heating up the barrel while maintaining
<EMI ID = 2.1>
cheerfully to reduce the consumption of ammunition.
Currently, in machine guns of the Hotchkiss type operating by gas sampling, it is the tension of the return spring which actuates the mechanism and fixes the magnitude of the motor effort without it being possible to effectively regulate the speed of the fire. .
<EMI ID = 3.1> <EMI ID = 4.1>
vention consists essentially of a valve piston,
which is established in such a way that, for its arming, its displacement occurs almost instantly and without resistance from the liquid. This result is obtained thanks to the fact that the free section of passage of the liquid through the piston is substantially equal to the parallel section of the liquid which must pass there and also to the fact that the delay in the displacement of the valve can reach the totality of the stroke of the piston against which the valve is immediately biased by a spring and by the pressure of the liquid itself, from the return stroke.
The instantaneous displacement of the piston is also facilitated by appropriate enlargements of the cylinder, either at the front or at the rear, or on either side of the return stroke adjustment part so that this adjustment is 'always operates on a

ment of the action on the trigger. The return is made at variable and adjustable speeds according to the speed of the shot requested; this adjustment can be made by the shooter beforehand - or during the firing itself and this by the simple operation of a dial, a lever -

ironing liquid through the piston "valve.
The particular arrangement of the piston and the possible delay of the valve make it possible, by mixing all of the liquid, to eventually restore the latter to the necessary fluidity in a few moments.
The device applied to the Hotchkiss machine guns realizes the independence of the operation of the ordinary rapid fire and allows to use the latter at any time of the automatic slow-motion fire without modifying the setting thereof, which makes possible the immediate passage of the fire. slow motion shooting, automatic or not, burst shooting and vice versa.
The invention also relates to an arrangement of the end
the part or cleat carrying the leading beak controlling the trigger member, according to which this leading beak is constrained <EMI ID = 7.1>
to be erased after it has exerted its action, so that one is obliged, either after a misfire, or for the firing of the first cartridge, to act directly by hand in order to fire the first shot.

During the arming stroke, liquid, for example

by rotation of the lever 4 acting on the trigger; this accelerated speed at the end of the stroke is obtained by enlargements 2

rapid passage of liquid from one side of the piston to the other at selected times. This arrangement not only allows the trigger to be energetically triggered, but also helps to facilitate the departure of the strake when cocking.
As can be seen in FIG. I, for the eventualities of arming exceeding the stroke portion corresponding to the adjustment -, recesses have been provided in the cylinder which allow the immediate return of the piston to this adjustment stroke.

The valve is pushed back against its stop 8 by a light

at this time, leave a large passage section for the oil and avoid increasing the passive resistances which could to a certain extent absorb the dynamic force necessary for the armament <EMI ID = 29.1>.
As seen in fig.I, the cleat 3. carries a small
<EMI ID = 30.1>
turn, thanks to a, _ small spring serving for this purpose, while the other branch extended downwards is intended for the return end of travel to come into contact with a part or stop
<EMI ID = 31.1>
It is easy to see that, when the rod 2 has been pushed towards
<EMI ID = 32.1>
is released thanks to the spring tension and that, therefore, automatic operation can be restored again with or without adjustment of the firing speed.
It will be noted that the movement of the various devices represented is absolutely independent of that of the machine gun mechanism. This independence avoids the shocks which would otherwise occur when the speed regulator is deactivated if it was activated by the motor unit <EMI ID = 33.1>
reinforced * for this purpose. This independence also allows
to keep the weapon absolutely all its ballistic qualities.
It should be noted that the adaptation of the device to a machine gun in no way affects the dismantling and retrieval maneuvers.
- reassembly of the parts of the machine gun itself, the dismantling of the barrel can be done by simply blocking the device <EMI ID = 34.1>
dependence on the firing speed regulator, exercise
<EMI ID = 35.1>
It should be noted in general that the whole of the arrangement which is the subject of the invention preserves the machine gun independence of its operation allowing at any time of automatic regulated firing the old rapid firing for the desired time. without disturbing the device, which makes it possible to resume automatic continuous fire at the set speed at will.
In the device of fig. 6, the cylinder 6 is turned over with respect to the arrangement described previously so that the gases forcing the piston 26 to the right, the
