<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Advanced explosion engine.
The present invention relates to an improved explosion engine comprising neither crankshaft nor articulated connecting rods for the transformation of the reciprocating movement of the pistons into continuous circular movement, remarkable in particular in that each piston is integral with a rigid rod provided with one or more rollers and in that-the flywheel has a continuous groove, of suitable shape on the edges of which roll the rollers carried by these rigid rods, in addition the flywheel has bosses which can act on the control rods of the valves of 'intake and exhaust.
Thanks to this device the engine is easy to balance and of reduced weight, the stroke of the pistons can be different for the exhaust, the suction, the compression and 12. the expansion after explosion, and we obtain at least one. explosion per revolution and per cylinder.
Other characteristics and advantages of the subject of the invention will moreover result from the description which follows.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In the appended drawing giving by way of example an embodiment of an engine according to the invention comprising only one cylinder:
Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation of this engine.
Fig. 2 is a section taken along the line A-A of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section of the flywheel along line B-B of FIG. 2 and
Fig. 4 is a development of the arterial surface of the steering wheel.
In this drawing:
The piston 1 moving in the cylinder 2 is integral with a rigid rod 3 provided with a roller 4 mounted on balls. This rod 5 has at its lower part a fork which makes it possible, by guiding the two ends 5 and 6, to avoid any rotational movement to said rod. These ends 5 and 6 are guided in bushes 7 and 8 with the interposition of balls mounted in cages 9 and 10 pushed upwards by springs 11 and 11 ',
A flywheel 12 carrying the motor shaft 25 and mounted on ball bearings 13 and 14, has a groove in which the roller 4 rolls, engaging it without play.
This specially shaped groove may have an appearance similar to that shown in the development given in FIG. 4.
According to this form, four periods are produced per turn of the flywheel, resulting in one explosion per cylinder and per turn. The curve portions a1, a2 a3, a4 correspond respectively to the explosion and the expansion, to the exhaust period, to the suction period and to the compression period.
The valves are controlled by means of rocker arms 15 and 16 oscillate under the thrust of the rods 17 and 18 when the rollers 19 and 20 meet, while rolling on the upper face of the flywheel 12, the bosses 21 and 22.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The boss 21 used for the control of the exhaust valve. pement 23 is fixed while the boss 22 used for controlling the intake valve is adjustable; it more or less exceeds the upper face of the flywheel, which makes it possible to modify the opening of the intake valve. This modification can be obtained automatically, for example by means of a ball regulator 24 arranged in the center of the flywheel as indicated in FIG. 3.
According to this device, the rotation of the flywheel 12 corresponds for the piston 1 to a rectilinear movement identical to that of the roller 4 rolling in the groove of this flywheel, that is to say a reciprocating movement whose amplitude is equal to that of the sinusoidal curve along which the groove is dug. It is therefore possible to obtain, with an appropriate plot of the curve, different amplitudes for the various times of the engine and to use under better conditions for example the engine gas expansion time after the explosion by giving to the corresponding curve portion has a greater amplitude as shown in the drawing.
In the. construction shown in figs. 5 to 7 the two edges of the groove a are offset relative to one another and respectively serve as raceways @ 1, 32 with two rollers 33, 34 both mounted on the piston rod 3. These rollers are crazy on the axis or bolt
35 passing through the soft arms 36, 37 of the fork constituting the end of the piston rod, and can therefore freely rotate in two different directions for one and the other.
The roller 33, which only supports the driving forces of the piston during the suction strokes, is located on the outside of the arm 36, while the roller 34, which transmits the driving force to the flywheel, is mounted between the two arms of the fork and at its center on
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the axis of the cylinder and the piston rod.
The fork arm 37 serves as a guide for the piston rod and for this purpose is provided with a slide 38 guide, via bearings 39, 40, on two slides 41, 42 fixed to the motor housing. The slide 38 is formed by two raceways 45, 44, one steel and approximately V-elm, braced by a rectangular bar 45 of light metal, for example of aluminum alloy.
Inside these paths are fixed by prisoners 46, blocks of light metal 47, 48 were used to support the axis 35; the block 47 has preferably come together with the arm 37 of the fork *
The balls of the bearings 39, 40 are held in two cages 50, 51 which can move freely in the space between the tracks 43, 44 and the slides 41, 42.
The adjustment of the assembly can be achieved by adjusting the thickness of the bar 45. The axle 35 has a threaded part 35a and can thus be screwed into a corresponding threaded hole of the arm 37 and of the block 47.
This construction makes it possible to support on both sides the roller 34 transmitting the engine force to the flywheel. In addition, the arm 37 is guided at the level of the axis of the roller 34 which prevents any torsion of the arm and makes it possible to reduce the size of the lower part of the motor.
Of course, the present invention is not limited to the embodiment shown and described, which has been chosen only by way of example; in particular the number of cylinders is absolutely arbitrary and in the case of several cylinders these are arranged circularly around the axis of rotation of the flywheel; likewise, according to the invention, it is not limited to a single engine stroke per revolution of the flywheel and per cylinder, the groove in the flywheel possibly corresponding to several explosions revolution.
