"TAMPON DIT "TAMPONATOR" CONTRE SAIGNEMENTS DU NEZ OU
ANALOGUE"
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
sieurs ouvertures 4.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"TAMPON SAID" TAMPONATOR "AGAINST BLEEDING FROM THE NOSE OR
SIMILAR"
The present invention provides a buffer device for the treatment of nosebleeds or other nasal diseases.
It is known to treat nosebleeds or certain * outras diseases of the nose by tamponade, that is to say by introducing gauze or other material into the nose.
However, the introduction of these materials into the nasal cavities presents difficulties and their removal easily causes further bleeding.
The so-called "Tamponator" device forming the subject of the present invention serves to remedy these drawbacks. It essentially consists of a rubber pocket or chamber capable of being inflated, and which by inflation presses in a manner
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
known as such, against the faces of the nasal cavity (s). The novelty consists in ae that this chamber contains a rod or rigid rod by means of which the chamber is introduced into the nose, to be then inflated. Upon inflation, the chamber takes a tight contact with the faces of the nasal cavity, and can be left there for as long as deemed necessary.
The removal of the tampon device object of the present invention is accomplished by first allowing air to escape from the rubber chamber forming the tampon itself and then carefully removing it from the nose. Since the rubber chamber no longer adheres, thanks to its deflation, to the faces of the nasal cavity, its removal will not cause further bleeding.
At its closed end, the rubber pocket or chamber may have a wall of a thickness greater than that of the other parts, with a view to increasing the strength or duration of the device, while preventing it from inflating. too strong, at this end *
The accompanying drawing shows by way of example the mode of construction of the buffer device forming the subject of the present invention.
FIG. 1 represents a side view of the device connected to a pear.
Figure 2 shows a longitudinal section.
FIG. 3 represents a view of the apparatus according to FIG. 2, rotated by 90 around its longitudinal axis.
FIG. 4 represents a longitudinal section in an alternative construction.
The rod 1, considerably facilitating the introduction of the apparatus into the nasal cavities, has at its front end, a bulge or head 2, forming at its opposite or rear end a tube 3 provided with one or more. more

sieurs openings 4. On this tubing 3 is fixed the bag or chamber of rubber or other equivalent material 5, for example by means of a ring 6. In the tubing 3 is disposed a check valve of the type of valves, air chambers.
The pipe 3 flares out at 7, forming a shoulder.
Inside this flared part 7 is arranged a thinner tube 8 which is provided with a neck 9.
A rubber tube 10, forming a valve, is fitted onto the front end of said tube 8. During inflation, the air penetrates through an opening 11 made in tube 8, between the latter and the tube. 10, and passes from the into the tubing 3, to penetrate from the latter through the openings 4, into the rubber chamber 5. The tube 8 is provided with a cross member 12 which extends into perforations or slots formed in the flared part of the tubing 3.A cap nut 13 screws onto the rear end of said flared part of the tubing 3 and acting on the cross member 12, serves to press the tube 8 against the shoulder ' 7 from tubing 3.
The tube 8 opens to the outside through a small opening in the union nut 13.
The pipe 14 which ends at one of its ends with the bulb 15 is fitted by its other end on the corresponding end of the tube 8, the latter having for this purpose a bulge, the orifice 16 of the pipe 14 being correspondingly expanded.
The bulb 15 is provided with the usual check valve 17. According to the mode of construction shown in FIG. 4, the rubber chamber 5 has at its upper end a rubber ring 18 fixedly attached to said chamber and having a thickness considerably greater than that of the chamber wall. This ring or ring 18 engages on a part in the form of a flange 19 of the device
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
valve, and is pressed against this flange, by a ring 21 of corresponding shape which is fixed by means of a nut 22.
The rubber ring 18 constitutes a considerable reinforcement of the chamber 5, while serving on the other hand to maintain the buffer device in the nose and this because it rests against the anterior edge of the nasal cavity. at the end of the nose, and thus prevent the tampon from coming out.
The valve stem 23 has a conical valve head 24, in the form of a mushroom, this head being covered with rubber and rests on a seat of corresponding shape. The extension of this seat ended with a glaring connection at a right angle to the longitudinal axis of the device, this connection having one end in the form of a conical head for connecting the pipe of the. Pear. The valve stem comes out of the part which contains it and is provided with a small nut 25.A coil spring 26 is interposed between this nut and the corresponding face of the member containing the valve. The valve stem further has a head 27 which prevents the total removal of the nut 25.
In order to prevent the rotation of the valve stem 85 during the adjustment of the nut 25, the said stem extends beyond the head 24, this extension forming a curved arm 28 which guides or rests on the stem 1. In this construction variant, the wall of the so-called lower end of chamber 5 has a thickness greater than that of its other parts.
