Abstract

Device for indicating a break in a frozen food supply chain, comprises an egg timer shaped body with two ovoid bodies linked by a contraction. One body is graduated, while the other is clear. The device is placed in a frozen food transport or storage container together with frozen food in an upright position with a frozen, colored, non-toxic liquid, such as dyed water, in the upper non-graduated compartment, while the lower empty compartment is the graduated one. In the event of temporary failure of the freezer the liquid will melt and fill, partially or completely, dependent on the failure time, the lower container. Refrigeration failure is clearly indicated. The egg timer shape ensures that if there is only a brief cut-off of refrigeration the ice will not quickly fall into the lower container.

  A. Généralités 
Trop souvent, dans certaines régions ou lors d'une absence prolongée, des coupures en alimentation d'électricité peuvent provoquer un arrêt du fonctionnement par exemple des congélateurs ou surgélateurs pendant une durée plus ou moins longue. 



  Cette situation peut entraîner une décongélation partielle ou complète du contenu du congélateur. Si le courant est rétabli quelques temps après, les aliments qui ont été partiellement ou complètement décongelés vont recongeler sans que nécessairement le propriétaire ou le consommateur se rende compte de cette interruption de la chaîne du froid. 



  Cette situation, comme nous le savons, peut entraîner des conséquences graves pour la santé en cas de consommation des produits qui ont été décongelés et/ou recongelés. Le but de cette invention est donc de créer un moyen simple de détecter l'interruption de la chaîne du froid pour un temps plus ou moins long et, par ce fait, d'alerter le consommateur. 



  B. Description technique L'idée est donc de prévenir par un moyen simple le consommateur d'un arrêt de congélation pour un temps suffisamment long pour qu'il y ait eu risque de décongélation complète ou partielle. Pour ce faire, nous réalisons un cube rectangulaire, carré ou cylindrique transparent en verre ou en plastique ou tout autre matériau permettant de visualiser le milieu de l'appareil au centre duquel se trouvent deux vases ovoïdes communiquant verticalement, l'un des vases étant rempli d'un liquide coloré non toxique (ex. de l'eau) et l'autre gradué par des lignes   (fig.l).

  C. Principes d'utilisation L'appareil est mis à congeler, partie des vases ovoïdes gradués en haut, et partie remplie d'eau colorée vers le bas   (fig.l).   Une fois congelé, celui-ci est installé dans le compartiment du congélateur en position inversée, graduation en bas et liquide coloré congelé en haut (fig.2). Une perte de froid à l'intérieur du congélateur provoquera une fonte partielle ou complète du liquide qui viendra remplir la partie ovoïde graduée du bas de manière plus ou moins importante suivant la durée de l'interruption du froid et le degré de décongélation (fig. 3). La décongélation du cube se fera plus rapidement que celle des aliments vu le petit volume représenté par ce dernier. 



  Si tout le liquide coloré se retrouve dans le fond du cube, partie graduée, ceci signifiera que les aliments contenus dans le congélateur ont aussi été décongelés, ils représentent donc un risque pour la santé et doivent donc être détruits. Il est important de remarquer que l'étranglement du passage entre les deux vases ovoïdes verticaux va empêcher le liquide congelé de glisser directement dans la partie graduée en cas de décongélation très superficielle des parois ce qui fausserait la lecture.

  A. General
Too often, in certain regions or during a prolonged absence, cuts in the electricity supply can cause a shutdown of the operation, for example freezers or freezers for a more or less long duration.



  This can cause the freezer contents to partially or completely thaw. If the power is restored soon after, food that has been partially or completely thawed will refreeze without necessarily the owner or the consumer being aware of this interruption of the cold chain.



  This situation, as we know, can lead to serious health consequences if the products which have been thawed and / or refrozen are consumed. The purpose of this invention is therefore to create a simple means of detecting the interruption of the cold chain for a more or less long time and, by this fact, of alerting the consumer.



  B. Technical description The idea is therefore to warn by a simple means the consumer of a freezing stop for a sufficiently long time so that there was risk of complete or partial thawing. To do this, we make a rectangular, square or cylindrical transparent cube in glass or plastic or any other material allowing to visualize the middle of the device in the center of which are two ovoid vases communicating vertically, one of the vases being filled of a non-toxic colored liquid (e.g. water) and the other graduated by lines (fig.l).

  C. Principles of use The appliance is set to freeze, part of the ovoid vessels graduated at the top, and part filled with colored water down (fig.l). Once frozen, it is installed in the freezer compartment in the inverted position, graduation at the bottom and colored liquid frozen at the top (fig. 2). A loss of cold inside the freezer will cause a partial or complete melting of the liquid which will fill the graduated ovoid part of the bottom to a greater or lesser extent depending on the duration of the interruption of the cold and the degree of thawing (fig. 3). Thawing the cube will be faster than that of food given the small volume represented by the latter.



  If all the colored liquid is found in the bottom of the cube, graduated part, this will mean that the food contained in the freezer has also been thawed, so they represent a health risk and must therefore be destroyed. It is important to note that the constriction of the passage between the two vertical ovoid vases will prevent the frozen liquid from sliding directly into the graduated part in the event of very shallow thawing of the walls, which would distort the reading.
