Abstract

The mechanism is composed of (see diagram): the bicycle pedal (1), thepulley (2), the irreversible coupling (3), and the chain (4), the spring (5)and the support (6), the axle (7). If we move the pedal clockwise, it drivesthe pulley (2) by means of the irreversible coupling (3). The pulley (2)winds the chain (4) and tensions the spring (5). We press on the bicyclebrake and we keep it pressed to get mounted. Once on the bicycle we releasethe brake and the bicycle will automatically go forward. To continue goingforward it is necessary to press on the pedals.<IMAGE>

Poulie 3. Accouplement irréversible 4. Chaîne ou cable 5. Ressort 6. Support 7. L'essieu

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

    Starting mechanism for vehicles without motor applied to a bicycle This innovation is related to mechanics and relates to a starting mechanism for vehicles without motor specifically applied to a bicycle.

  This innovation is put into practice using a prototype and its effectiveness proven. There is no need to build a new bike model to achieve this innovation, i.e. it can be applied to any normal bike.

  Until today there is not a technical solution which facilitates the starting of a normal bicycle (without any kind of engine). Usually bicycles now have various speed combinations and to make changes at this level the vehicle must be in motion. In general we stop with a combination of sprockets which is not exactly the easiest way to start the bicycle again which makes it more difficult (especially in front of the red lights) to move and start again! If we activate the mechanism we succeed in starting the bicycle (by sitting on it) without pressing with the foot, nor touching the pedals. Once it has started on its own, you have to push the pedals to keep moving.

  The mechanism is composed of (see diagram) 1. Pedal lever 2. Pulley 3. Irreversible coupling 4. Chain or cable 5. Spring 6. Support 7. The axle

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 Description of operation Method 1 If we press the pedal (1) with the body weight in the clockwise direction (see diagram) this drags the pulley (2) using the irreversible coupling (3). The pulley (2) winds the chain (4) and tightens the spring (5). Immediately we press the brake of the bicycle and keep it pressed after which we get on the bicycle. Once on the bike we let go of the brake and the bike will move forward without moving the pedals. Once in motion, you must press the pedals to move forward.

  Method 2 Suppose we stop at the red lights. While waiting for the green on the bicycle, we activate the mechanism by moving the pedal (1) clockwise, the spring (5) will stretch and we will press the brake.

  When the green light comes on we release the brake, the bike will immediately move forward without problem.

  To facilitate the functioning (in the two methods), we can use the weight of our body on the pedal which implies two forces for starting: the force of the spring and the force of the gravity of the earth which is exerted on our body .

  If by chance we activate the mechanism without being on the bike, we must let go and go get it a few meters ahead of us.

All the elements of the mechanism are new except the pedal (1). That is to say: the new elements are the pulley (2), the chain (4), the spring (5) and the support (6). The mechanism mentioned can be installed on a normal bicycle or on a model specially made to apply innovation. The fundamental characteristic of this innovation is the great ease with which we can start the bicycle. In the past, such a mechanism adapted to the bicycle did not exist.
