<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
EMI4.1
- on effectue un refroidissement naturel du couvercle du four, en enlevant ce dernier, jusqu'à l'obtention d'une température dudit couvercle d'environ 400 C ; - on effectue ensuite un refroidissement forcé du couvercle par soufflage d'air ambiant jusqu'à obtenir une température du gaz égale ou inférieure à environ 550 C ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Method and device for cooling coils annealed in a bell furnace
The present invention relates to a method for reducing the cooling time of products, in particular metal coils during annealing in a bell oven. The technical problem solved by the present invention is that of limiting the total time of an annealing cycle of such products.
In order to clearly understand the technical field of the present invention, reference is firstly made to FIG. 1 of the appended drawings which is a schematic representation in section through a vertical plane of a known device for annealing in a bell hood furnace 1 The coils 1 are stacked on a base 6 and they are covered with a cover 2 which is tightly fixed on the base 6 by means of clamping means 7. A gas which may contain a variable proportion of hydrogen is injected inside the cover 2 in which it is caused to recirculate under the effect of a turbine 4 placed at the bottom of the cover 2 and driven by a motor 5. The bell of the oven 3 comes to cover the cover 2, this oven being provided with burners 8 for heating the cover.
In such a known device, the coils 1 are heated mainly by convection between the gas and the surface of the coils and by conduction in the coils. The gas is mainly heated by convection by the cover 2, the latter itself being heated by the burners 8 of the oven 3. After the heating phase which is developed according to a temperature cycle which is adapted to the desired heat treatment as a function of the nuance of the material constituting the coils, the latter are cooled under an atmosphere Up to a temperature making it possible to avoid their oxidation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This cooling is governed by the physical times of the convective exchanges. in particular the nature of the gas, its circulation speed and its temperature. The nature of the gas and its speed can be considered as already optimized, depending on the type of heat treatment to be carried out and the mechanical temperature resistance of the recirculation turbine 4 which limits the possibilities of flow rates and speeds that can be obtained. The only way to improve the cooling of the coils is therefore to obtain the coldest gas possible, at all times, in order to 'create the greatest possible thermal gradient in the coils, this gradient being the engine of the exchange flow. by conduction in the coils.
This cooling must take place for each of its phases, so as not to expose the various parts of the oven, its equipment or the products to thermal or mechanical stresses liable to endanger them.
There are four known means for cooling the gas contained in the cover 2 of a bell furnace as illustrated in FIG. 1. These means are shown respectively in FIGS. 2, 4, 5 and 6 which are views similar to the figure 1.
In the cooling system illustrated in FIG. 2, natural cooling is carried out by removing the bell 3 from the oven and allowing the cover 2 to cool freely in air. The turbine 4 remains in operation during this cooling. This technique has the disadvantage of not making it possible to obtain significant cooling rates. In FIG. 3 of the appended drawings which illustrates the variations in temperature of the cover as a function of time, curve 1 represents the change in the temperature of the cover (on the ordinate) during this natural cooling. As this curve 1 shows, this technique does not make it possible to obtain significant cooling rates.
It has the advantage of using no additional equipment but it is only effective at the start of cooling when the cover 2 is very hot.
A second known cooling system is illustrated in FIG. 4. In this system, during the cooling phase, the bell 3 of the furnace is replaced by a cooling bell 9 which is provided with a number of fans.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
such as 10 blowing ambient air on the cover 2 in order to accelerate its cooling. The cooling curve of the cover obtained using such a system is shown diagrammatically at 2 in FIG. 3. It can be seen that, as with natural cooling (curve 1), such a device is only effective when the temperature of the cover is important. When the temperature of the cover drops, the time necessary for the coils to cool is important.
In order to speed up the cooling of the coils, it is possible to use a spray of water on the cover 2. This technique is illustrated by FIG. 5 in which a spraying system of cooling fluid, in particular water, has been shown diagrammatically. on the cover 2 using cooling fluid supply ramps 15 and spray nozzles 16. This spraying of coolant can only be carried out when the cover 2 is at a temperature below about 200 ° C. for obvious reasons of mechanical strength. Such a restriction requires the implementation of this cooling method only in addition to other cooling techniques such as those described above with reference to FIGS. 2 and 4.
In Figure 3, there is shown at 5 the cooling curve of the cover obtained by implementing the cooling technique described above with reference to Figure 5 Another cooling means is illustrated by Figure 6 It consists in using an external gas cooling circuit consisting of a heat exchanger 13 cooling the gas contained in the cover 2, for example by circulation 14 of a cooling fluid such as water, the gas being recirculated by a fan 12 and a circuit 11. This recirculation of the gas can only be initiated when the temperature of the gas is less than about 550 C, in order to preserve the turbine of the fan 12 and the exchanger 13 from any damage.
The cooling curve of the cover obtained by this means is represented by curve 3 in FIG. 3.
In the practice currently implemented, the various means for cooling the cover described above are used separately. fool in combination The present invention has set itself the objective of combining these means
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
so as to use them successively in the phases of the cooling cycle where they are most effective. The goal sought by such. combination is to limit the total time of cooling of the coils and, by this means, to limit the total duration of the annealing cycle of the coils with this type of oven, this reduction resulting in a gain in productivity.
Consequently, the subject of the present invention is a method of cooling coils which have been annealed in a bell furnace comprising a base on which the coils are stacked and which is covered with a sealed cover into which a gas is injected which is recirculated by means of a turbine, the oven provided with burners covering the cover, this process being characterized by the following successive steps:
EMI4.1
- Natural cooling of the furnace cover is carried out, by removing the latter, until a temperature of said cover of approximately 400 ° C is obtained; - Then performs forced cooling of the cover by blowing ambient air until a gas temperature equal to or less than about 550 C;
- cooling of the gas is then carried out by heat exchange until a temperature of the cover is obtained of the order of 200 C and, - cooling of the cover is finally completed by spraying the latter with a liquid of cooling such as water.
The present invention also relates to a device allowing the implementation of the process specified above.
An embodiment of this device, which has no limiting character, is illustrated by FIG. 7 of the appended drawings which is a section similar to FIG. 1.
It can be seen that this device comprises the known cooling devices described above with reference to FIGS. 2, 4, 5 and 6, that is to say a device for cooling by forced air 9 and 10, by external heat exchange 11 , 12, 13 and 14 and by spraying 15 and 16 of the coolant. Thanks to this combination, the cooling cycle object of the present invention comprises the following phases:
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
1) Natural cooling of the cover 2 after removal of the oven 3, this cooling step corresponding to curve 1 of FIG. 3 It is carried out during a period of the order of 15 to 20 minutes, during which the temperature of the cover reaches about 400 C.
2) Cooling by forced air by the installation of the cooling bell 9 and the actuation of the fans 10, this cooling step which corresponds to curve 2 of FIG. 3 being carried out until obtaining a gas temperature equal to or less than 550oC, which then allows the fan 12 of the gas cooling circuit 11 to be started by the exchanger 13, cooled for example, by a circulation of water 14.
3) Starting cooling by spraying water 15 and 16 as soon as the temperature of the cover 2 reaches approximately 200 ° C.
The cooling cycle thus obtained by the present invention describes the curves 1, 2,3 and 4 of FIG. 3, which clearly show the reduction in the total time of the cooling phase obtained thanks to the invention, compared to the means conventional cooling rates are illustrated by the succession of curves 1,2 and 3 or 1,2 and 5.
The time savings obtained by implementing the present invention can be estimated at approximately 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes, which presents a productivity gain of the order of 4% over a total annealing cycle of 35 hours. .
It remains to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described and / or mentioned above but that it encompasses all variants thereof.
