<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will emerge from the description given below taken with reference to the accompanying drawings. in which: - Figure 1 shows a perspective view of an educational device according to the invention; - Figure 2 shows a side elevational view of the educational device showing a cover in partially open position; - Figure 3 shows a view similar to that of Figure 2. but with the cover in a closed position, the housing being located in a first position; and - Figure 4 is a view of the educational device seen from the same side as the observation side of Figure 3. the housing being located in a second position.
EMI2.1
Referring first to Figure 1, an educational device 2 is constituted by a housing 4 having a flat surface 6 and a mirror 8. The mirror 8 is held in position on the flat surface 6 by a frame 10. The frame 10 has three sides of a rectangle, and mirror 8 can be removed from frame 10 by sliding it to the fourth side or missing side. The frame 10 is spaced above the surface 6 of the housing 4 so as to form a lip which projects above the edges of the mirror 8 and fixes it in position. The lip of the frame 10 also guides the mirror when it is removed from the planar surface 6 of the housing 4 or when it is brought back to this surface. In FIG. 1. the mirror 8 is partially removed from the frame 10.
The flat surface 6 of the housing 4 is articulated around two hinges 12 to form a cover 14. The opening of the cover 14 allows access to the interior of the housing 4. which is hollow. The interior of the housing 4 can thus be used to store objects intended to be used in association with the educational device 2
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
A part of the cover 15 is arranged so as to enter a slot 16 provided in the housing 4 when the cover 14 is in the closed position. This makes it possible to block the cover 14 in the closed position.
A transparent or translucent sheet (not shown) can be placed on the upper part of the mirror 8 when it is in position in its frame 10. The clearance between the mirror 8 and the frame 10 is such that the sheet can be accommodated in the frame 10 above the mirror 8. The sheet can be a sheet of paper or an at least partially light-transmitting polymer, such as polystyrene, acetate or so-called HIP polyflex material, and can be covered with a layer of varnish.
The housing 4 of the educational device 2 comprises a generally cylindrical compartment 20. The compartment 20 comprises a cover 18. The mechanism used to lock the cover 14 of the housing 4 also blocks the cover 18 of the compartment 20.
A handle 22 is provided on the housing, above the mirror 8, so as to allow the educational device 2 to be carried easily.
In Figure 2, the cover 14 of the housing 4 is shown as being hinged, in a partially open position. The housing 4 has a large protruding part 24 disposed laterally in the center and close to the base of the device A.
The projection 24 acts in combination with the base of the cylindrical compartment 20 to form a configuration which provides the educational device 2 with a stable base. The educational device 2 can be placed on a surface such that it bears on the projecting part 24 and the base of the cylindrical compartment 20. If the cover 14 is in the closed position, the mirror 8 is oriented obliquely upwards when the educational device 2 is arranged on the surface. This is clearly shown in Figure 3.
The educational device can be arranged with a second stable orientation so that it bears on the projecting part 24 and on two other projecting parts 26, as shown in FIG. 4. In this configuration. the mirror 8 is oriented obliquely upwards at an angle less than that shown in FIG. 3.
When using the device, a child or other user is placed in front of the educational device 2 so that he can see his own image reflected in the mirror 8 A transparent or translucent sheet is placed on the mirror 8 and the can then use
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
one or more pencils or other marking devices for tracing the outline of its reflected image or applying a color to this image.
In particular, the educational device 2 can be used to teach for example to a user how to apply a cosmetic on his figure. In a first arrangement, the educational device 2 is conventionally used as a mirror and the user applies appropriate cosmetics or pencils directly to his figure.
In a second arrangement, the user applies appropriately colored pencils to the reflected image of his face in the mirror 8 of the educational device 2, on a transparent or translucent sheet placed on the mirror 8.
When the user has finished marking the sheet, he can remove it from the mirror.
Note that the mirror 8 can be a piece of flat glass having a metallic back coating. Otherwise, the mirror can be formed by a combination of a plastic material and a metallic back coating. typically made of silver, a one-piece piece of polished metal or a combination of metal and plastic or a plastic card or a reflective card.
The function of the two hinges 12 can be assumed by any other form of articulation mechanism. For example, it is possible to use a single articulation of the strip type extending over the entire length of the cover 14. Otherwise, it is possible to perform the articulation function by shaping the casing 4 so that a thin flexible piece in one piece molded plastic material connects the cover 14 and the housing 4.
The transparent or translucent sheet (not shown) disposed on the mirror 8 can be replaced by any one of a plurality of other sheets. Suitably, these sheets can be stored inside the housing of the educational device. The replacement sheet may be transparent or translucent and may bear images and designs. If desired, more than one sheet can be placed on the mirror so as, for example, to bring overlapping images printed on the sheets.
In another embodiment (not shown), the frame comprises a lamp powered by a battery, which illuminates the mirror, which improves the visibility of the reflected image of the user.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In another embodiment, lighting means for lighting the mirror are provided in the handle of the educational device.
