<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

SUPPLY SYSTEM OF FOAM PRECURSORS IN A MIXER
AND DISTRIBUTION GUN
The present invention relates to a supply system of foam precursors in a polyurethane foam mixing and distribution gun.
EMI1.1
It is generally known that a polyurethane mixing and distribution gun comprising a mixing chamber, an or. non-removable sealing pin that can close the mixing chamber over its entire length, a drive part to move the sealing pin back and forth and a handle.
The foam precursors are led separately to the mixing chamber through supply lines that are usually pressurized.
In the most known systems, the pressure remains over the entire length of the supply line of the foam precursors. In order to be able to isolate the mixing chamber during standstills or interruptions, hermetically sealing hand valves are provided on both sides of the dosing device. These hand valves are designed to prevent foam precursors from entering the mixing gun mixing chamber when not in use.
When the pre-products are delivered in pressure-free steel storage vessels, they must be supplied by a submersible pump to the foam gun.
The supply channels that the foam precursors
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
and which are closed at both ends by a valve and by the sealing pin of the foam gun, remain under pressure as long as the submersible pump is running. This allows minuscule amounts of both components to react quickly with each other and to form extremely fine adhesive particles of foam material which can themselves block the sealing pin in the mixing chamber in traces.
If the sealing pin is jammed or the mixing gun is clogged, the mixing chamber and sealing pin must be removed for cleaning or replacement.
In order to prevent the leakage of liquids, in particular liquid foam precursors in a pipe closed at both ends, and to remedy the disadvantages of sudden blockages, a supply system of the type described in the first paragraph of this invention is proposed, according to the invention. memorial.
The system is characterized in that it consists of a pump with a suction chamber as the pump body and a reciprocating plunger driven by a spring in one direction and a solvent as a hydraulic fluid in the opposite direction as the pressing construction part of which the crankcase is flushed with a solvent.
The plunger carries an actuating rod adapted to open an inlet valve of a vertically disposed discharge pump when the plunger reaches the lower reversal point.
The diameter of the plunger of the discharge pump and the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Stroke length of this plunger in the pump body determines the volume of foam precursors that can be sprayed in one go. Due to the simultaneous operation of the supply pumps of both foam precursors, the foam precursors are precisely dosed in equal and constant proportions. They are subjected to a sufficient pressure and flow to the mixing chamber of the apparatus at a constant speed so that the mixing of the foam precursors in the mixing chamber is homogeneous. The pump can act as a suppression device at any interruption of operation. The device thus simultaneously serves as a feed pump, dosing device and shut-off device.
The invention also relates to a method for controlling a predetermined ratio between the quantities of foam precursors supplied from a pressureless storage vessel by means of the supply system.
The pump operates cyclically thanks to limit switches mounted at the end of the plunger stroke. These switches control valves that open and close the supply lines of the basic components.
In a better equipped version, the end-of-loop switches are replaced by a linear distance measurement that transmits this information to a micro-processor which in turn checks every stage of the distance measurement. This allows a predetermined ratio between the amount of both base components to be accurately controlled via the microprocessor and associated control valves in the supply lines.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
These features and other features and peculiarities of the invention will become apparent from the following description, which, by way of example, do not illustrate an embodiment of the invention in a limiting sense.
In these drawings: - figure 1 shows a view in its entirety of the supply system provided with two supply systems according to the invention for both basic components
A and B; Figure 2 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view of the feed system of the invention as it takes a liquid foam precursor from a supply vessel, and Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view similar to that of Figure 2 of the feed system while showing the liquid foam precursor from a supply vessel. pushes the mixing chamber of the mixing gun.
In these drawings, like reference characters refer to like or like elements.
As shown in Figure 1, the mixing gun 1 with foam precursors is supplied from two pressureless supplies. vessels, 3 in which the basic components A and B are supplied.
The feed system 6 consists of a pump with a suction chamber 8 as the pump body and a reciprocating plunger 9 driven by a spring 23 in one direction and a solvent as a hydraulic fluid in the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
opposite direction as an oppressive construction part of which the crankcase has been flushed with a solvent.
The biasing force of the spring 23 pushes the plunger 9 upwards.
In the pressure-free storage vessels, the basic components A and B, also called foam precursors, are led via their respective supply line 7 into a cylindrical filter 18, along an annular gap 19. Via a riser 20 inside the filter 18 and through a non-return valve 11, the basic components A and B is drawn into the pump through the upward plunger 9.
A hydraulic group 28, with Mesamoll as the hydraulic fluid, provides a preset pressure when the trigger of the mixing gun 1 is pulled in, which can vary between 25 and 60 bar. This pressure wants to move the movable plunger against the spring resistance and penetrates the basic components from the cylinder chamber 16. The valve 11 does not let any liquid through in that direction so that the only way out is to the mixing gun 1 via line 7. As soon as the mixing gun 1 opens , the two basic components A and B will mix in the mixing chamber with a pressure equal to the respective pressure in each cylinder chamber 16. From this pump, the basic components A and B flow via a flexible pipe 7, which is kept at temperature by electrical resistors, to the inlet of the mixing gun 1.
Provision of the baling pressure chamber 8 will then continue by moving the plunger 9 upwards and this under the action of the spring 23. The normal position of the movable plunger 9 is thus always limited at the top by the spacer against the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
flange of the pump. When, during a long injection that would exceed the contents of the baling pressure chamber 8, the movable plunger 9 has almost reached the bottom and threatens a possible shortage of base product or a pressure failure, an end-of-loop switch mounted on a guide rod 22 just before that situation is reached, close the gun 1 and release the Mesamolld pressure so that the discharge pressure chamber 8 can refill with new basic component. A second end-loop switch will transmit the maximum position.
In a better equipped version, the guide rod 22 of the plunger 9 carries a linear distance measurement that transmits information to the microprocessor. This allows a predetermined ratio between the amount of both base components A and B to be accurately controlled via the microprocessor and control valves in the supply lines.
The originality of the concept lies in the fact that the flexible supply line of foam precursors to the mixing gun 1 is subjected to an operating pressure only when an injection is carried out and up to a few seconds afterwards.
Then the normally constant working pressure is reduced to the pressure of 1/2 to 1 bar. These low pressures do not pose any threat to possible blockages of the mixing chamber of the mixing gun 1 by the basic components A and B.
The fluid medium, being Mesamoll z, which transfers the pressure, is a solvent which, in addition to its qualities as a hydraulic fluid for both basic components A and B, also has excellent dissolving and plasticizing properties. The cylinder walls will thus change
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
Every movement will be under Mesamolld pressure. Any microscopic particles of base components A and B which would remain on the wall of the cylinder chamber 16 are dissolved and the lubrication of the plunger 9 is ensured.
It is also important that the pressure below and above the movable plunger 9 is identical so that seepage of adhesive particles due to the difference in pressure in both chambers 8 is non-existent.
Any microscopic particles of basic components attached to the wall of the pump body
EMI7.1
residues are dissolved with Mesamoll and lubrication of piston 9 with Mesamoll is ensured.
Upon termination of the injection, after closing the gun, the hydraulic fluid pressure on the chambers 8 is immediately stopped. The working pressure still present in the flexible pipes immediately decreases since the excess of basic components A and B is returned to the chambers 8 by the mechanical contraction of the flexible pipes 7. The residual pressure on the mixing chamber and in the flexible pipe, as well as in the chamber 8, is equal to the pressure in the filter section which is potentially equal to the pressure in the steel
EMI 7.2
pressure bottles, being 1/2 to 1 bar.
When starting the mixing and dosing gun, a propellant or gas, usually the same as that, of the actuating portion of a mixing and dispensing gun 1 pushes the first and second pistons away from the action of the helicoidal spring. This allows the foam precursor to flow freely through the release chamber if the sealing pin clears the supply ports to the mixing chamber when the gun is actuated. As soon as the drive section of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
push the sealing pin into the mixing chamber, the machining of gun 1 is interrupted. The liquid pressure in the storage vessel and the biasing force of the spring 23 push the plunger 9 upwards.
