<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Met het inzicht de kenmerken volgens de uitvinding beter aan te tonen, zijn hierna dan ook als voorbeelden zonder enig beperkend karakter enkele voorkeurdragende uitvoeringsvormen beschreven, met verwijzing naar de bijgaande tekeningen, waarin : figuur 1 een samengestelde buis volgens de uitvinding weergeeft ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

Method and device for manufacturing composite tubes and composite tube manufactured according to this method.
This invention relates to a method and apparatus for manufacturing composite tubes, as well as composite tubes made by this method. In the first place, this concerns pipes intended to be used in central heating installations, but it is clear that these pipes can also be used for other purposes.
In particular, the invention relates to a method for manufacturing composite pipes with at least two pipe walls, respectively a first pipe wall of plastic and a second pipe wall of a thin layer of metal arranged directly or indirectly around it.
More specifically, it is an object of the invention to provide a method with which, inter alia, it is possible to encase an endless extruded plastic tube, wherein a metal strip is placed around this plastic tube and applied in the longitudinal direction of the tube.
The manufacture of composite pipes, in which a metal strip is placed around a plastic pipe and applied lengthwise, is already known. The present method has the drawback, however, that air inclusions between the plastic pipe and the metal pipe wall are easily created, which is detrimental for applications in heating installations, since the expansion of the trapped air through heating can lead to defects.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention aims at a method in which the air inclusions between the different pipe walls are completely excluded.
To this end, the invention relates to a method for manufacturing composite pipes, of the type in which a first pipe is encased by applying a metal strip directly or indirectly around the pipe wall of the first pipe and sealing this metal strip in the longitudinal direction in order to seal a metal strip. second tube round. form the first tube, characterized in that the weld seam formed here is realized at a distance from the tube wall of the first tube and that the welded metal strip is pressed against the underlying tube wall of the first tube after welding at the location of the weld seam.
Because the welding seam is realized at a distance from the underlying pipe wall, damage to the latter pipe wall is prevented. This is particularly important if the underlying pipe wall consists of a fusible and / or combustible material, such as plastic, not only because a damaged pipe wall is less strong, but also because cavitations are created in which air is omitted.
Because the weld seam is then also pressed on, the occurrence of gas inclusions, for example air inclusions, is completely excluded. The pressing also promotes the creation of a uniform welding seam.
Preferably, the pressing is done immediately after welding, since the weld seam has then cooled sufficiently to cause little or no damage to the underlying pipe wall, but is still sufficiently deformable such that it
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
can be pressed against the pipe wall underneath.
The pressing can be done by means of a pressure roller.
The method preferably provides for a continuous process, wherein the first tube functions as a mandrel for applying the metal tube wall folded around it, as well as for pressing the weld seam, such that no gauges are required.
In order to obtain a good connection between the welded metal pipe wall and the underlying pipe wall, an adhesive layer can be applied to the underlying pipe wall before the metal pipe wall is folded around it.
The invention also relates to a device for realizing the aforementioned method, as well as to a composite tube manufactured according to this method. The features of such device and of such tube are further described in the detailed description. The composite tube, as will be shown below, is designed in such a way that it is optimally suitable for use in the transport of both hot and cold liquids.
With the insight to better demonstrate the features according to the invention, some preferred embodiments are therefore described below as examples without any limiting character, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: figure 1 shows a composite tube according to the invention;
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
figure 2 schematically represents the method of the invention; figure 3 represents a section according to line III-III in figure 2; Figures 4 and 5 show on a larger scale the part indicated by F4 in Figure 3, respectively during welding and after pressing the weld seam; figures 6-7,8-9, 10-11, 12-13 and 14-15 for four variants each show two similar views as figures 4 and 5.
The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a composite tube 1, wherein this composite tube 1, as shown in figure 1, consists at least of a first tube 2 and a second tube 3 arranged directly or indirectly around the first tube 1. a relatively thin metal.
In the first place, the intention is to be able to form a high-quality composite tube 1, wherein the first tube 2 consists of plastic, and the second tube 3 is made of a metal strip which is folded around the first tube 2 and in the lengthwise welded.
As shown in figure 1, a third tube 4 can also be arranged around the second tube 3, also made of plastic, all this in such a way that the second tube 3 is both against influences from the inside and from the outside, which, for example, leads to oxidation of the metal is protected.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
According to a preferred embodiment, adhesive layers 5 and 6 are also provided between the respective tubes 2-3 and 3-4.
The method of the invention is mainly based on the method of arranging the metal second tube 3 around the first tube 2. An embodiment of this method of application is schematically shown in figure 2. This method consists in that the first tube 2 is sheathed by directly or indirectly around the tube wall.
the first tube 2 applying a metal strip 7 and the longitudinal sealing of this metal strip 7, so that the second tube 3 is created, and has the special feature that, as shown in more detail in figures 3 and 4, the welding seam 8 in a zone Z, at a distance D from the pipe wall, more specifically from the surface 9 of the wall below it is realized, and that, as shown in figure 2, the metal strip 7 after welding at the weld seam 8 against the surface of the pipe wall below it is pressed.
The whole of figure 2 is preferably realized in a continuous process. In the case of a first plastic tube 2, it can be extruded on site. A plastic based on polyethylene or of pure polyethylene is preferably used for this.
As mentioned above, an adhesive layer 5 can be applied around the first tube 2. The adhesive layer 5 ensures that the metal jacket of the second tube 3 to be formed adheres firmly and is held in place. Preferably, a heat-active adhesive is used for this purpose and the composite tube 1 is completely heated at the end of the production, in order to further improve the adhesion by activating the adhesive layer 5.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
As is schematically shown in figure 2, the metal strip 7 is folded around the first tube 2, which may or may not be provided with an adhesive layer 5. This is done in a belt feeder (not shown).
The metal strip 7 used here can consist of different types of metal, such as steel, copper, aluminum or an alloy based on copper or aluminum. Aluminum is preferred in that, on the one hand, it is very pliable, and on the other hand, a very light composite tube 1 is obtained.
The pressing at the location of the welding seam 8 is effected by means of a pressure roller 11 rotatable along an axis 10, through which the composite tube 1 is guided.
As shown in the embodiments of figures 3 and 4, the realization of the welding seam 8 at a distance D from the surface 9 can take place according to a first possibility by inserting in an opening or an inclusion 12, normally an air inclusion, under the welding seam 8, at least during welding. As a result, the first tube 2 does not come into contact with the molten material that arises during welding and is therefore not damaged.
After pressing on the welding seam 8, the second tube 3 adheres perfectly to the first tube 2 and a welding seam 8 with a uniform appearance, as in figure 5, is obtained, with an excess thickness extending over a height H which is in function of the pressing force exerted by the pressing roller 11, this height H being non-existent or very small.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
Various techniques can be employed to provide the aforementioned inclusion 12. According to the embodiment of Figures 2, 3 and 4, the two edges 13 and 14 of the metal strip 7 are profiled upwards over a certain width, which can be done just before the application by the metal strip 7 through a profile tool not shown in the figures to pull.
According to a variant shown in figure 6, the upwardly curved edges 13 and 14 are also provided with radially oriented parts 15 and 16 which are arranged against each other or almost against each other. Figure 7 shows the welding seam 8 after pressing the edges 13 and 14 from Figure 6.
According to another variant, which is shown in figure 8, overlapping edges 13 and 14 are provided, which are spaced outwards from the underlying wall at a distance D. Here again, an inclusion 12 is obtained, which ensures that no damage is caused to the first tube 2 during welding. After pressing on, the state of figure 9 arises.
According to a second possibility of realizing the welding seam 8 at a distance D from the first tube 2, this is achieved by providing an incomplete weld-through, whether or not in combination with an air inclusion or opening 12.
A first example of this is shown in figure 10.
The edges 13 and 14 are hereby overlapped against the first tube 2 and during welding a burn-in is caused which does pass through the outer edge 14 but is only partially executed into the lower edge 13, in other words in a zone Z which always at a distance D from the bottom edge 13
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
located wall, all this in such a way that no damage is caused to the first tube 2. After this, the weld seam 8 obtained is pressed flat, so that the result of figure 11 is finally obtained.
It is noted that the fact that no gas inclusions are present under the edges 13 and 14 offers the advantage that no disturbing influences of oxygen are formed at the root when welding. It is clear that as shown in the embodiments of figures 12 and 13, on the one hand, and 14 and 15, on the other hand, can also be provided in a multiple, for instance double, welding seam 8, in order to obtain a more firm connection.
It is also clear that the size of the thickening H can be easily changed by providing more or less material at the location of the welding seam 8, for example by increasing the upright edges 13 and 14 in figures 4 and 6 or by these edges 13 and 14 in Figures 8, 10, 14 and 12 overlap more or less.
It is noted that, for the sake of clarity, in Figures 3 to 15 no adhesive layer 5 was shown between the first tube 2 and the second tube 3. In reality, the first tube 2 is preferably coated with a thin adhesive layer.
As mentioned above, the invention also relates to a device for realizing the above-described method, characterized in that it consists of at least one supply device for arranging the metal strip 7 around a first tube 2; a welding device 17 for forming the aforementioned welding seam 8 and pressing means,
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
for example the pressure roller 11, in order to exert a pressure force at the location of the weld seam 8 realized.
In addition, the device preferably also comprises an extruder, such that the first tube 2 can be continuously produced and immediately provided with the metal strip 7. In the event that a composite tube 1 as shown in Figure 1 is realized, the device can still be provided with an additional extruder to form the third tube 4.
Depending on the tube 1 to be realized, a profile tool can also be provided for folding the edges 13 and 14. The device can also comprise a machine for cutting the edges of the metal strip 7, in order to obtain a uniform bandwidth and an oxide-free edge.
In case the composite tube 1 contains one or more adhesive layers 5 and / or 6, the device is also equipped with means for applying these adhesive layers 5 and / or 6.
In the case where heat-active adhesive 10 is used, a heating element is provided at the end of the device.
The present invention is by no means limited to the embodiments described as examples and shown in the figures, but such method and device for manufacturing composite tubes and the composite tube can be realized in different variants, without being outside the scope of the invention steps.
