<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
EMI4.1
<tb>
<tb> DBOs-N-P
<tb> 8 <SEP> 750 <SEP> mg <SEP> 437 <SEP> mg <SEP> 88 <SEP> mg
<tb>
EMI4.2
<tb>
<tb> DBO-N-P
<tb> 8 <SEP> 750 <SEP> mg <SEP> 3 <SEP> 330 <SEP> mg <SEP> 1 <SEP> 778 <SEP> mg
<tb>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
EMI9.1
<tb>
<tb> Hydrogène <SEP> sulfuré <SEP> 0, <SEP> 005 <SEP> ppm
<tb> Méthanéthiol <SEP> 0, <SEP> 002 <SEP> ppm
<tb> Diméthyl <SEP> sulfure <SEP> 0,0003 <SEP> ppm
<tb> Ethylpyrazine <SEP> 6 <SEP> ppm
<tb> 2-méthoxy-3-isopropyl <SEP> pyrazine <SEP> 0, <SEP> 002 <SEP> ppb
<tb>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

"Process for the treatment of pigyard manure"
The present invention relates to a method for treating pigyard slurry.
National pig production is around 26.5 million head per year, which represents a permanent herd of 11 million pigs.
Depending on its feeding method, each pig produces around 1 m3 of slurry during its lifetime. Pigs are in fact much more polluting than humans: each animal generates a charge equivalent to 5 inhabitants.
The purification of such pollution is technically complicated, and all the more so since we observe a great disparity and a significant atomization of farms.
It is however well known that pig manure, which is made up of a mixture of more or less diluted organic and mineral matter, has a very interesting fertilizing value.
This property is notably confirmed by the table below which indicates the average concentrations of the main elements present in pig manure:

Given this composition,
the most frequent destination of pig manure is spreading on the soil, ammoniacal nitrogen being
EMI2.2
essentially oxidized to nitrate and absorbed in this form by plants following the cycle:
EMI2.3
nitrosomonas + 302>, nitrobacter + 02> 2NO3-
EMI2.4
However, such spreading on soils is not without many drawbacks:
The pollutant load of pigyard slurry can be represented by the following average values obtained from a mixture from different farms, taking into account criteria such as farm size, storage time or type of production:
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>

<tb> 5
<tb> 0 <SEP> dissolved <SEP> <<SEP> 1 <SEP>% <SEP> of <SEP> saturation <SEP>
<tb>
These measurements, in particular the biodegradability index (representing the ratio of the amount of oxygen necessary to transform the molecules present in the slurry into water and carbon dioxide to the amount of oxygen consumed for five days by the bacteria present in manure) prove that we are in the presence of conditions allowing to consider a biological purification.
However, and despite the importance of organic matter, this possibility is hampered by the high value of the conductivity which is directly linked to the quantity of dissolved salts; it is indeed well known that the latter induce variations in osmotic pressure which slow down the development of bacteria of the banal flora making it possible to obtain reactions with normal kinetics.
This characteristic, linked to the low content of slurries in dissolved oxygen, thus limits the development of usual bacteria and participates in the establishment of anaerobic bacteria (therefore with slow kinetics) inducing fermentations belonging to the group of putrid fermentations producing very volatile substances. and olfactory whose perception threshold is sometimes lower than ppm. This nuisance for the environment is particularly troublesome during pressure drops
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
atmospheric then creating an imbalance between internal and external pressures and thus causing a greater release of dissolved gases.
This drawback means that the spreading of liquid manure is subject to limiting or even binding standards for breeders: it is notably forbidden to spread liquid manure during the summer months.
Furthermore, it is generally accepted that, in order to be in the ideal conditions for biological purification, the C / N / P ratio must be equal to 100/5/1. By convention, the factor C which represents the total organic carbon is assimilated to the BOD, which, considering the average value of the BOD in pigyard manure could be written:
EMI4.1
<tb>
<tb> DBOs-N-P
<tb> 8 <SEP> 750 <SEP> mg <SEP> 437 <SEP> mg <SEP> 88 <SEP> mg
<tb>
However, in the case of an average pig farm slurry, these values actually become:
EMI4.2
<tb>
<tb> DBO-N-P
<tb> 8 <SEP> 750 <SEP> mg <SEP> 3 <SEP> 330 <SEP> mg <SEP> 1 <SEP> 778 <SEP> mg
<tb>
These values correspond to a C / N / P ratio equal to 100/38/20, which means that, compared to ideal values, pig manure contains about 7.5 times too much nitrogen and 20 times too much phosphorus .
This high nitrogen content leads to the formation of large quantities of highly soluble nitrates which bind more or less well in the soil and which, during heavy precipitation, are entrained and stored in the underlying aquifers, which can make water unfit for domestic consumption; these high amounts of nitrates also have the disadvantage of having a fertilizing effect of a nature to modify the flora of watercourses by helping the establishment of plants and
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
reducing the oxygen availability correspondingly, which causes the disappearance of certain fish: this is the well-known phenomenon of eutrophication, which, in the case of closed reserves such as lakes, can lead to their transformation into peat bogs.
The presence of an excess of phosphorus is not without drawback either, even if it is, a priori, less troublesome than the presence of nitrates: in fact, under the action of heavy precipitation, there is a slight leaching phosphates which are stored and released over time, which has a stimulating effect on plant growth.
It should, moreover, be mentioned that the liquid manures also have relatively large quantities of potash whose solubility is comparable to that of nitrates, and which, consequently, induce the same problems.
In order to remedy the abovementioned drawbacks, a processing method has been developed, according to document FR-A-89 08 034, consisting, schematically, of subjecting the slurry to a biological treatment before adding a coagulating agent so as to separate a liquid phase and a concrete phase representing approximately 20% of the initial volume, containing the major part of the fraction useful for the development of the crops and which can be stored for subsequent spreading.
This process has the advantage of not entailing any constraint for breeders and of making it possible to take advantage, in an ecologically and economically acceptable manner, of the fertilizing value of the manure.
Biological treatment planned in accordance
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
to this document aims to transform part of the ammoniacal nitrogen into organic nitrogen in particular in the form of protein in order to increase the efficiency of the coagulating agent, and in parallel, to promote a process of degradation by aerobic way at the expense of anaerobic processes, which, as already indicated, are largely responsible for smelly fermentations.
Despite these advantages, this process could not lead to the hoped-for results, given the absolute necessity of treating only slurries less than five days old.
Another drawback of the above-mentioned process is linked to the risk of solidification of part or all of the manure, making it very difficult and even sometimes impossible to treat it.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a new process for treating slurry, prior to coagulation and the separation of the liquid phase and the concrete phase, while allowing optimal use of the qualities. manure fertilizers, a large decrease in the production of foul smells, and an elimination of the risks of solidification.
The development of this process is based on the observation that the pig slurries for fattening contain, on average, 55 g of dry matter per liter, which is very high; about 30% of these dry materials are of mineral origin and about 70% of organic origin (lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose, pectin ...). These materials, which enter pig feed but are not susceptible to digestion, are found as such in liquid manure and are largely
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
responsible for the bulking phenomena.
The idea underlying the invention consists in subjecting the slurries to a biological treatment by putting it to react with bacteria capable of giving cellulases so as to make it possible to degrade, by hydrolysis, the cellulose, which corresponds to more than 50%. the content of slurry fibers, until C6 monomers are obtained.
This reaction which can be schematized by the equation:
EMI7.1
enzymes (C6H100S) n + n H20> n CgHOe
EMI7.2
can advantageously be implemented and controlled using a mixture of trace elements and bacteria having a well-defined metabolic activity of the so-called optional anaerobic type, that is to say which can live in the absence or in the presence of oxygen and adapting their enzymatic system to this absence or to this presence one can thus transform a non-assimilable organic carbon (polymers) into glucose (sugar immediately assimilated by bacteria) and which is more a source of energy supply among the most important .
Thus, by releasing the energy which cannot be assimilated as it is, it is possible to accelerate the production of cellulases, and consequently to increase the rate of degradation by hydrolysis of the cellulose.
It should be noted that the acceleration thus obtained from the degradation and hydrolysis of cellulose, induced by the bacteria used, is stopped by the disappearance by assimilation of the essential nutrients which were present in the starting slurry; for this reason, it is necessary to constantly replenish a nutritional intake.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
The aforementioned reaction, in accordance with the invention makes it possible, by the sole action of bacteria, to fundamentally modify the viscosity of the medium, that is to say to pass from a product at the limit of viscosity to a fluid product, therefore , free of risk of solidification.
This reaction can advantageously be carried out in a biological reactor in which the residence time is of the order of 10 days, that is to say which can contain approximately 10 times the daily production of slurry from a given operation. It is thus possible to treat slurries of any age, and therefore to remedy the drawbacks of the prior art which required treating only slurries that are less than five days old.
The enzymatic degradation reaction of the cellulose corresponds to an exothermic bioreaction which causes an increase in the temperature of the slurry which is established at a constant value of the order of 19 C.
Given this relatively high temperature, associated with the decrease in the dynamic viscosity of the medium, the smelly fermentation gases dissolved in the slurry can escape more easily.
In fact, the foul-smelling gases produced are stored in the slurry until the internal pressure becomes higher than atmospheric pressure: odor problems can therefore be reduced to notions of diffusivity. According to Stokes Einstein's equation:
EMI8.1
T being the temperature of the medium, n being the dynamic viscosity of the medium.

Consequently, an increase in temperature and a decrease in viscosity increase the diffusivity of the gases. It can therefore be assumed that, over a relatively short period of time, the increase in odors and the result of the synergy of the increase in temperature in the slurry and its drop in viscosity.
It would be desirable that the expulsion of gases can occur below the odor perception threshold.
For example, the perception thresholds for some molecules from liquid manure are as follows:

<tb> Hydrogen <SEP> sulfurized <SEP> 0, <SEP> 005 <SEP> ppm
<tb> Methanethiol <SEP> 0, <SEP> 002 <SEP> ppm

<tb> Ethylpyrazine <SEP> 6 <SEP> ppm
<tb> 2-methoxy-3-isopropyl <SEP> pyrazine <SEP> 0, <SEP> 002 <SEP> ppb

Regardless of the above characteristics, the formation of foul smells occurs only in the absence of oxygen; more precisely, for each type of bacteria, there is a Redox potential above which a given fermentation can no longer occur; this level of potential is, for example, around -300 mV for hydrogen sulfide.
We had the idea, in accordance with the invention, to use this classification of Redox potentials by associating with biological treatment, mechanical assistance making it possible to transfer oxygen from the air into the reactor. The control of the equipment is advantageously ensured by a Redox potential electrode associated with a relay so as to maintain the slurry at a predetermined potential level.
This combined treatment has proven to be very effective; in addition, the cost of processing one meter

slurry cube is of the order of 16.50 F, which is much lower than the process of the prior art.
We have also realized that, surprisingly, the bacterial mixture used in accordance with the invention is capable of attacking the COOCH3 group of pectins present in the slurry by demethoxylating it in accordance with the reaction:
EMI10.1
COOCH3 + H 20 enzyme> COOH- + CH30 + H +
EMI10.2
This process leads to the appearance of negative charges throughout the pectin chains, which in the presence of di or trivalent cations causes, following the association of the chains between them, a modification of their molecular weight and therefore a phase separation. .
According to the invention, the treatment process can then continue in a similar manner to that described in document FR-A-89 08 034, that is to say by the addition of a coagulating agent such than for example an acid salt having a pH close to 1. It is thus possible to obtain, after the biological activation of the slurries, the association of the pectin chains between them and the coagulation of the proteins.
The result is the development of a veil resulting from the two phenomena described above and leading to the clarification of the slurries. The concrete phase, thanks to the release of gases produced during the chemical reaction, rises to the surface of the liquid and can be recovered by simple scraping or concentrated by any mechanical means such as a filter press or a drip table.
The more the hydrolysis of the celluloses is pushed, the less there is dry matter to go up.

During a laboratory study on two samples, the swimming fraction corresponding to approximately 95% of the original volume of the slurry was analyzed; the following results were obtained:

The tables above show that the liquid phase has thus lost about 90% of its fertilizing value to the benefit of the concrete phase.
The invention also relates to an installation for implementing the above-mentioned method.
