<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

BIN FOR PAINTING, PROCESS AND
LAMINATE FOR ITS PRODUCTION The subject of the present invention is a tray intended to contain paint.
Known paint trays require long and tedious cleaning if the painter wishes to reuse them. This cleaning is all the more difficult since the painter is often not able to carry out this cleaning at the customer, that is to say that he must carry out this cleaning once the paint is cured.
In addition, even after thorough cleaning, there is a risk that particles of paint will still remain attached to the walls of the container. In this case, these particles can then come off during a subsequent use of the tank with another paint. Such particles mix with this other paint and cause a layer of paint that is not uniform in thickness or color.
The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks and therefore relates to a container allowing rapid, efficient and clean cleaning of the container. Once cleaned, the tank is directly ready for use. The cleaning of the tank is clean since it does not cause any dust formation and since the paint still present on the walls of the tank can be directly thrown in a trash can.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The container according to the invention has a wall defining a bowl. This bowl is provided on its inner face with a series of films. A first film covers the inside of the bowl, while the other films each cover another film. A means extends between two adjacent films so as to attach each film to another film. The adhesion force created by said means between two films is such that one film can be detached from the other by manual traction.
In one embodiment, the films of the series have, in the vicinity of at least one of their edges, a part free of said adhesion means, said part forming a gripping surface for the application of manual traction.
Advantageously, between two adjacent films extend a non-stick layer and an adhesive layer.
Preferably, the non-stick layer is applied to the face of a film facing the inside of the bowl while the adhesive layer is applied to the face of a film facing the wall of a bowl.
By way of example, the non-stick layer is a silicone layer or coating while the adhesive layer is produced by means of a pressure-sensitive adhesive, a cross-linkable adhesive or a fusible adhesive.
According to another embodiment, the free edges of the tray are curved, that the films of said series
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
covering said edges, while at least in the vicinity of part of said edges the free end of a first film extends beyond the free end of a film adjacent to said first film.
According to a feature of this embodiment, in the vicinity of a portion of said edges of the tray, the free end of a film of the series extends beyond the free end of the film or films located between said film and the wall of the tank.
The present invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a container, in particular a container according to the invention.
In such a process, a laminate is deformed in a mold comprising: - a support sheet intended to form, after deformation, the wall of the bowl, - a series of films, and - means extending between a film and the sheet support and between two adjacent films for attaching each film to an adjacent film or to the support sheet after deformation, the adhesion force created by said means between two adjacent films after deformation being such that a film can be detached from another by traction.
Advantageously, said means are an adhesive layer and a non-stick layer.
According to one embodiment, the films of said laminate are along one of their edges not connected to an adjacent film so as to form gripping surfaces after deformation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
According to another embodiment of the method according to the invention, each film of the laminate overhangs at least along one of its edges the support sheet as well as the films located between the film in question and said support.
Preferably in the process, the laminate is deformed by thermoforming or thermomolding.
The present invention also relates to a laminate for the implementation of a method according to the invention. This laminate comprises a support sheet intended to form, after deformation, the wall of the bowl, a series of films and means extending between a film and the support sheet and between two adjacent films to attach each film to an adjacent film or to the support sheet, said means consisting of a non-stick layer and an adhesive layer.
Advantageously, the films of said laminate are along one of their edges not connected to an adjacent film so as to form, after deformation, the gripping surfaces.
In one embodiment, each film of the laminate overhangs at least along one of its edges the support sheet as well as the films located between the film in question and said support.
Preferably, the support sheet and the films are made of a thermoformable material.
Other particularities and details of the invention will emerge from the following detailed description in which reference is made to the accompanying drawings.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In these drawings: - Figure 1 is a perspective view of a container according to the invention, - Figure 2 is a sectional view along line IIII of the container shown in Figure 1, - Figure 3 is a view on a larger scale and in section of an edge of a container according to the invention, - Figure 4 is a view similar to that of Figure 3 but of another embodiment, and - Figures 5 and 6 are sectional views of a portion of laminates for the manufacture of a tray according to the invention.
Figure 1 shows in perspective a tray 1 intended to contain paint. This tank 1 has a bottom 2 and four side walls 3 defining a bowl 4 for receiving paint.
A hoop 5 connects two opposite side walls so as to form a handle.
The free edges 6 of the tank (upper edges) are curved.
The tray 1 is provided with a series of films 7a, 7b, 7c, etc. (for example from 3 to 10 polyester films), a first film 7a covering the walls 2 and 3 defining the bowl while the other films 7b, 7c , etc each cover a different film.
The films 7a, 7b, 7c are connected or attached to each other or to the walls defining the bowl by means 8.
This means 8 which extends either between two adjacent films
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
7b, 7c, either between a film 7a and the walls 2,3 of the bowl 4 creates an adhesive force between these films or between the film 7a and the walls 2,3 of the bowl 4.
This adhesive force is sufficient to prevent the detachment of a film when the tray 1 is used by a painter, but is such that a film can be detached or peeled from another or from the walls 2, 3 of the bowl by simple manual pull. Thus, for example, the film 7d can easily be peeled and detached from the film 7c by simply pulling on the film 7d from one of its ends (see FIG. 3).
The means 8 consists for example of a non-stick layer or coating 8A, for example made of silicone, and of an adhesive layer or coating 8B such as a layer of hot-melt adhesive.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 3, said coatings 8A, 8B are located between two adjacent films 7a, 7b so that the non-stick coating 8A is turned (overlaps) towards the film 7a, that is to say say for the films considered, the most adjacent of the walls 2,3 of the bowl, while the adhesive coating 8B is turned towards the film 7b, that is to say for the films considered, the most distant from the walls 2, 3 of the bowl.
Films 7a, 7b, 7c ... cover the edges 6 of the bowl. In the vicinity of their edges 71, the films 7a, 7b, 7c have a part 72 free of adhesion means. This part 72 advantageously extends beyond the end 61 of the free edge 6 of the bowl and forms a gripping surface for applying a film T (for example 7d) to pull this film away from the others.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
FIG. 4 shows another part of an embodiment of a container according to the invention similar to that of FIG. 3. In this embodiment, the films 7a, 7b, 7c, 7d cover the edges 6 of the bowl. The free end 71 of a film extends beyond the free end 71 of an adjacent film. Thus for two adjacent films, the end 71 of the film 7b extends beyond the end 71 of the film 7a, that is to say of the film situated between the film 7b and the wall 2,3 of the bowl or of the film more adjacent to the wall 2, 3 than the film 7b.
The means 8 also here comprises an adhesive layer 8A and a non-stick layer 8B.
The containers according to the invention can be manufactured by deforming in a mold, by thermoforming or by thermo-stamping a laminate comprising: - a support sheet 9, for example made of polyethylene, intended to form, after deformation, the wall of the bowl, - a series of films 7a, 7b, 7c, and - means 8A, 8B extending between a film 7a and the support sheet 9 and between two adjacent films 7a,
7b for attaching each film to an adjacent film or to the sheet 9 after deformation.
The adhesion force created by said means between two adjacent films after deformation is such that one film can be detached from another by simple traction.
The laminate is for example a laminate comprising a support sheet 9, a series of films 7a, 7b, 7c ... and means 8 extending between the film 7a and the sheet 9 and between two adjacent films 7a, 7b and in which the films are, along one of their edges 71,
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
not connected to an adjacent film so as to form gripping surfaces after deformation (see Figure 5).
In another embodiment, each film 7d of the laminate overhangs along their edge 71, the support sheet 9 as well as the film or films 7a, 7b, 7c situated between the film in question 7d and said support 9.
The sheet 9, the films are for example made of a thermoformable material (polyethylene, etc.) while the means 8 are for example a layer of silicone and a layer of glue. The adhesive or glue layer is applied to the side of the films facing the wall of a bowl while the non-stick or silicone layer is applied to the other side of the films (i.e. the side facing the inside the bowl 4).
In an embodiment not shown, the means 8 consists of an adhesive layer having on a first face a strong adhesion force so that the layer is firmly attached to a film for example 7a and on the face opposite to said first side an adhesion force allowing a film (7a) to be detached from another (7b) by application of a manual tensile force.
Thus the adhesive force of the first face is greater than that of the face opposite to this first face.
To obtain such a means 8, two superposed layers of glue can be used, a first layer of glue having a bonding or adhesive strength greater than that of the second layer.
