<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
l'ensemble d'arrachage.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The present invention relates to a flax-pulling machine having, mounted on a rolling chassis, an actual pull-out assembly and a flax display assembly capable of immediately forming a substantially continuous sheet of flax swaths, the stems being parallel, transversely to the direction of the machine.
Flax harvesting machines are well known. A lifting assembly for such a machine is for example described in French patent NI 1,281. 756. As is perfectly illustrated in FIGS. 2 and 3 of said patent, this tear-off assembly is pivotally mounted relative to the rolling chassis around a horizontal axis situated above the front wheels of the machine. This pivoting is essential to adjust the height of the dividing members in contact with the flax feet, and also to raise the lifting unit in the rest position when the machine is moving on the road.
The lifting unit, known from French patent N01. 281.756, is most often supplemented at the rear by a display unit which takes up the outgoing linen, substantially horizontally from the tear-off unit, and transfers it in a continuous sheet to the ground. On the occasion of this display, the flax stalks may possibly be subjected to the action of pressure cylinders.
On machines known to the applicant, the display assembly is mounted on a frame integral with the rolling chassis, said frame being fixed or generally pivotable transversely relative to the chassis.
The structure of known machines has the following drawback. Due to the pivoting of the tear-off assembly, the spacing between the two tear-off and display assemblies varies depending on whether the tear-off assembly is in the rest position (pivoting backwards) or in the work (swiveling forwards). So it is in the working position that this
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
spacing is the most important. As a result, the linen, emerging in a substantially horizontal position from the belts of the tear-off assembly, must cross a large space before being taken up by at least one conveyor belt from the display assembly.
Up to now, attempts have been made to overcome this drawback by placing holding bars in this space so that the flax is kept there while it is pushed towards the conveyor belt by the flax coming from the belts. However, there are losses of flax and a lack of regularity in the advance of flax.
Now we have found, and this is what is the subject of the invention, a machine for pulling flax which overcomes the aforementioned drawback in that the space between the two sets of uprooting and display is constantly fixed and reduced, whatever the rest or working position adopted.
The machine for stripping flax is of the type known in that it comprises, from the front to the rear of a rolling chassis, a stripping assembly comprising belts and pulleys for driving and guiding these belts, arranged so as to tear off the flax at the front of the machine and to transfer it to the rear while passing it from a vertical position to a substantially horizontal position, and a display assembly, comprising at at least one conveyor belt, stretched between an upstream roller and a downstream roller, and transporting the flax in the form of a substantially continuous and horizontal sheet from the lifting unit to the ground.
According to the invention, the lifting assembly and the display assembly are mounted on a single frame, which is pivotable relative to the rolling chassis about a horizontal axis located towards the rear of said chassis; the spacing between the belts at the rear of the lifting assembly and the conveyor belt at the front of the display assembly is reduced. Preferably it is between 10 and 25cm.
Advantageously, the pivoting of the single frame is obtained using a hydraulic cylinder, the body of which is secured to the chassis and the rod of which is secured to the frame, at the level of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the lifting unit.
The display assembly can be mounted on a frame, integral with the single frame but which is pivotable relative to the latter by means of transverse pivoting.
At least a first upstream roller of the display assembly can be equipped with pressure means, capable of displacing said first upstream roller relative to a second upstream roller, and of exerting pressure on the part of the flax stalks passing between the two rollers on the conveyor belt.
The invention will be better understood on reading the description which will be made of the preferred embodiment of a flail harvester with a single pivoting frame, illustrated by the appended drawing in which the single figure is a schematic side view of the machine.
The flax harvester 1 is a self-propelled harvester, equipped with a drive motor proper.
It comprises a rolling chassis 2 which is carried by the front wheels 3 and rear wheels 4.
On the rolling chassis 2, towards the rear wheels 4, is mounted an axis of rotation 5, horizontal and transverse relative to the harvester 1.
A single frame 6 supports both the lifting assembly 7 and the display assembly 8; it is integral with the rolling chassis 2. by the axis of rotation 5 and by the end of the rod 9 of the hydraulic cylinder 10, the body 11 of which is integral with the rolling chassis 2 towards the front wheel assembly 3.
The lifting assembly 7 proper will not be described in detail, the teaching of the French patent N * 1. 281.756 on this subject forming an integral part of this description. Only the output members of this tear-off assembly, namely the two output pulleys 11 and 12, of horizontal axis, on which the belts 13 and 14 are tensioned, have been brought to bear in the single figure, after having passed on the pulleys 15 of oblique axis.
The display assembly 8 is mounted on a frame 16, integral
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
of the single frame 6. This frame 6 can pivot relative to a theoretical axis, vertical and which would be located towards the front of the display assembly 8, so as to be able to vary the exit angle of the linen on the field relative to the direction of movement of the harvester. This type of pivoting is well known to those skilled in the art, and the pivoting means will not be described more precisely.
At the front of the display assembly 8, the lower roller 17 is mounted, mobile in rotation, on the vertical uprights 19 of the frame 16. It is for example a metal roller. The upper roller 18 is mounted, movable in rotation, between two arms 20, one end of which pivots about an axis 21 belonging to a horizontal upright 22 of the frame 16. The other end of the arm 20 is integral with the rod 23 d a jack 24, the body of which is itself integral with an oblique upright 25 of the frame 16.
The upper roller 18 is placed parallel above the lower roller 17. The stroke of the jack 24 makes it possible to adjust the spacing between the two rollers 17,18.
A conveyor belt 26 is stretched between the upper roller 18 and the roller 27 at the rear of the harvester 1. It has teeth 28 laterally; the length of the lower roller 17 is shorter than that of the upper roller 18 so that the teeth 28 pass on either side of said lower roller 17.
The roller 27 is below the lower roller 17, so that the conveyor belt 26 has a descending path towards the rear of the harvester 1. A plate 29 is fixed to the frame 16, under the conveyor belt 26 and parallel to this one.
The zone 30 of the space delimited by the outlet of the lifting assembly 7 and the inlet of the display assembly 8 occupies a reduced volume. The distance D between the two planes passing respectively through the axes of rotation of the rollers 17,18 and the pulleys 11,12, this distance being fixed according to the passage of the linen, is of the order of 10 to 30 cm. Holding bars, not shown, are placed longitudinally on either side of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
pulleys 11,12 and rollers 17,18. The operation of the harvester is as follows. In the rest position, the rod 9 of the jack 10 is extended and the single frame 6 is in the high position, that is to say that the front part of the lifting unit is raised relative to the ground.
In the working position, the jack 10 is actuated so as to return the rod 9 into the body 11. This displacement causes the pivoting of the single frame 6 around the axis of rotation 5, and consequently the descent towards the ground of the front part of the lifting unit 7.
When moving the harvester 1 through the flax field, the lifting unit 7 tears off the flax and transfers it to the pulleys 11,12 using the belts 13,14. The belts being crossed at 900 between the pulleys 15 and the output pulleys 11,12, the linen passes from a vertical position to the right of the pulleys 15 to a substantially horizontal position to the right of the pulleys 11,12.
The linen, supported by the holding bars, passes from the belts 13,14 to the rollers 17,18 in the zone 30 of constant and reduced dimensions.
The linen is taken between the conveyor belt 26 and the lower roller 17. The stroke of the jack 24 is chosen so as to obtain a crushing of the part of the linen rods passing at the level of the two rollers 17,18. It should be emphasized that thanks to the invention the crushing of the stems can be carried out in one go and without discontinuity over the entire length of the linen rod which corresponds to the location of the textile fibers. This is not obtained on traditional materials.
This crushing, regularly distributed over the length of the stem, promotes the homogeneous divisibility of the technical fibers of the flax in the subsequent retting and scutching operations.
The flax is transported, in the form of a continuous and regularized sheet, thanks to the teeth 28 by sliding on the plate 29, to the output roller 27, then falls on the ground forming the parallel swaths.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The invention is not limited to the preferred embodiment, given by way of example, but covers all its variants.
