DISPOSITIF POUR DECOLLER LES TALONS D'UN PNEU D'UNE JANTE DE ROUE
EMI1.1
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

DEVICE FOR TAKING OFF THE HEELS OF A TIRE ON A WHEEL RIM
EMI1.1
The invention relates to a device for removing from a wheel rim the beads of a tire which adheres thereto.
There is already known a device comprising a support plate against which the wheel rests from which the tire is to be peeled off, a pressure plate arranged opposite the support plate and movable in a straight line in the direction of the plate support in order to take off the bead of the adjacent tire, a piston rod, one end of which is fixed to the pressure plate and the other to a piston, and a pneumatic cylinder in which the piston and the rod are axially movable piston to move the pressure plate.
However, this device has the disadvantage that it is very difficult to correctly place the wheel - between the support plate and the pressure plate, so that the pressure plate always comes into contact with the tire bead, a specific point, when moving this plate, without touching the wheel rim. There is therefore a risk of damaging the wheel rim.
In order to avoid this drawback, the piston rod of the pneumatic cylinder consists, according to the main characteristic of the invention, of a hollow rod of which one end is fixed to the piston and of a second rod displaceable axially by hand in the hollow rod. , and whose protruding end of the hollow rod carries the pressure plate.
In this way, the pressure plate can be moved by hand to the tire bead until the exact position of the pressure plate in relation to the tire bead is obtained, after which the piston of the pneumatic cylinder moves in a straight line

the hollow rod and then the rod provided with the pressure plate, in order to detach the tire bead from the wheel rim.
By way of example, without the slightest limiting character, a more detailed description is given below of a preferred embodiment of the device according to the present invention. This description refers to the appended drawing in which: FIG. 1 represents a perspective view of a device for mounting and dismounting a tire and on which the device according to the invention is mounted; fig. 2 is a plan view with longitudinal section of the device according to the invention; fig. 3 is an enlarged section of the rear part of the rod carrying the eccentric body; fig. 4 is a cross section along the line IV-IV of FIG. 3.
The device according to the present invention will preferably be suspended from the chassis of an apparatus for mounting and dismounting a tire, by means of a bracket 2. This bracket is provided with an opening 3 into which is introduced a bar 4 which is adjustable in the axial direction and one end of which is provided with a support plate 5 against which the wheel 6 is placed. Facing the support plate 5 is disposed a pressure plate 7 for detaching the tire from the wheel rim and able to move in a straight line towards the support plate 5. This plate is fixed obliquely to a sleeve 8 provided with a handle 9.
This sleeve is fixed on a rod 10 which can be turned around its axis by means of the handle 9, so that the pressure plate 7 can take the position chosen according to the diameter of the tire which is to be peeled off. Rod 10 is slidably mounted in
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
a hollow rod 11. The rear end of the rod 10 is extended by an axis 12 fixed eccentrically relative to the aforesaid end and on which is mounted a freely pivotable body of an eccentric 13. This body can rotate around the axis 12 and in the hollow rod 11, in order to be able to block the rod 10 in the hollow rod 11 and always maintain the pressure plate 7 in a vertical position. Said hollow rod 11 is attached to a piston 14 housed in a pneumatic cylinder 15 fixed to the bracket 2.
A return spring 16 mounted around the hollow axis 11 exerts pressure on the piston 14, keeping the pressure plate 7 in the withdrawn position.
In the cylinder 15 there opens an air line 17 which is connected on the other hand to a compressor (not shown) by means of a pneumatic valve 18 actuated by a pedal 19.
To take off the bead of a tire, the wheel 6 is rolled between the support plate 5 and the pressure plate 7 by placing the wheel against the support plate 5 and it is moved by hand using the lever 9 the rod 10 and the pressure plate 7 towards the wheel. As soon as the pressure plate 7 comes into contact with the tire bead, the wheel 6 and the pressure plate 7 are placed in the correct position relative to each other, so that the pressure plate 7 does not come into contact with the rim of the wheel. When the pedal 19 is pressed, the compressed air enters the cylinder 15, so that the piston 14 with the hollow rod 11 move in a straight line towards the wheel.
The free end 20 of the hollow rod 11 pushes against the sleeve 8 and pushes the pressure plate 7 against the tire bead, so that the tire is detached without the rim of the wheel being able to be damaged. After a tire bead takes off, the return spring 16 allows the return
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
of the pressure plate 7 in the starting position, which thus makes it possible to turn the wheel in order to take off in the same way the opposite bead of the tire. After the wheel is removed, the eccentric body 13 places the plate. pressure 7 automatically in the vertical position.
It goes without saying that the shape, dimensions and relative arrangement of the elements described above may vary and even that certain elements may be replaced by others which pursue the same goal.
